Downtown’s Latest Contemporary Art Museum
Hello! Calling all contemporary art lovers!!
The Broad Museum (www.thebroad.org) has recently opened on Grand Ave! Admission is free (for now), and the museum hold some of the coolest artwork you’ll ever see. I actually haven’t been yet, though, because although it is free to get a ticket, you do have to reserve them online, and due to heavy traffic, that can get a little tricky. They schedule your arrival time down to the half hour!
I can promise it will be all worth it, though!! The exterior is a gorgeous addition to DTLA’s warehouse-hipster aesthetic designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro in collaboration with Gensler.
The indoors has over 2,000 collections from philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad’s, who created the museum, personal collection. Probably the most exciting part is the inaugural installation, with artworks by Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, and Cy Twombly, Roy Lichtenstein, Ed Ruscha, and Andy Warhol, among others.
The most instagrammable piece in the museum (besides the amazing freakin exterior) is Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirrored Room. I’m just gonna add photos because it pretty much just explains itself.
this is all LIGHTS. and MIRRORS!!!!!!
so if you’re even kind of hip, check it out!! more info and photos to come after my visit on Oct 15th!!
