Remembering William Teo. I walked through Fort Canning Park a few days ago on live stream, telling The NeoKeleLims Social Club all about the plays I performed there. William Teo was one of my best teachers. I learnt to sing in Sanskrit in the Fort Gates for Medea, I ran around as the mute Kattrin in Mother Courage at what used to be the roller skating rink. William taught me how to eat artichokes, we made gnocchi together as we rehearsed The House of Bernarda Alba. I can still hear his voice, passionately describing the sets & costumes of his plays, the sound of his cockatoo ShuShu, the trickle of the water in his lovely Bo Seng home. The last time I saw him was on Bintan Island. He was so thin & gaunt. Valentine's Day lunch at Funan B2 Bizen. Warning: food was not good @frickingino look where you're going please 😇🤣 The $40 Wagyu tenderloin was pretty rubbish, the Wagyu stew was yummy (as yummy as Tom Piper's canned stew), the sausage starter was also yummy, (as yum as canned cocktail sausages) : the best thing was the chicken wings! We are rabbits turning 60 this year. Friends from primary one CHIJ Opera Estate & Katong. What a joyous cackling lot we are. I was totally the naughtiest girl in school. Lai Yu who sat next to me in primary school told 2 stories that she's been keeping for these 50+ years. "You wrote GOD IS A DOG on your pencil case, I told the teacher and you got punished" 😂 boy I was so creative! Either that or dyslexic 😎 "We were doing a Chinese test & teacher told us to stop writing when time was up, but you kept on writing. Thanks to @adrianvu for lunch at Punggol Settlement & loaning your DJI gimble, not to mention sheltering me under your umbrella eh eh ☔☺️ as the rain poured down on us suddenly. @wheeler.kk for setting up our IRL stream alerts. What a fun stream & day! I remember coming to Coney Island as a child to swim. My parents were always busy working to make ends meet. My uncle Alan, who was in the SAF used to include me whenever he brought his 2 sons out. I had a blessed childhood. And continue to live a blessed adulthood. Death Row Literature by Pannir Selvam  #savepannir Pannir Selvam is a poet on death row in Singapore. He wrote this poem for Nagaenthran K. Dharmalingham who was hanged 27 April 2022 at dawn. My BFF Khim & her family. Her dad is 102 years old. I've known him since we were 8 years old. I remember going to his chicken rice stall on Beach Road, only a couple of times, he would never let me pay. In 2012, I interviewed him for Cooling Off Day, a verbatim play and played him in a segment! I recited some of that script to him, he came to Singapore on a boat for 2 weeks, from Hainan Island in 1936, when he was 16 years old. Today, he added, 七月 7Th month (July) 1936. When he retired from being a hawker, he taught himself to read and write poetry. He wrote me two poems which he made up on the spot in 2012. The calligraphy panels on the wall behind us were done by him. What a living legend you are, Mr Tan Jong Keng.
