Visions Of U | OHBLEEDRO TEASER
Future Funk & The Problem With Artzie Music.
Preface: This is all my own opinion. Whilst I have some experience in this community I am in no way an expert in the field. If you’re reading this then you probably already know who and what Artzie Music is so you can skip to the next paragraph. If not, read on. Artzie Music is a YouTube channel that uploads Future Funk songs alongside an animated video generally of a gif-like nature (short and repetitive). These animations are almost always from an anime. As of this moment Artzie Music has 39,188 subscribers on YouTube. To put that into perspective for you; Macross 82-99 has 24,566 followers on SoundCloud and Dallas Cotton aka. YUNG BAE 39,257 followers on SoundCloud. So needless to say Artzie Music is about as popular as two of the bigger names in Future Funk and as such can be rather influential in the overall scheme of what is a relatively small genre. Why am I telling you all of this? Simple. You should not support Artzie Music. Artzie, and it’s owner Fred, more often than not rips artist’s songs straight from SoundCloud and post them online without the artists’s knowledge or permission. If you try to contact the Artzie team, either through Facebook, SoundCloud or Twitter, you’ll be met with a deafening silence. The problem with this is that Artzie Music is directly profiting from other people’s work. All of their videos are monetized with ads and they’ve seen fit to start selling merchandise of their brand built on the backs of other people’s work. Below is the estimated earnings from the Artzie Music channel taken from this website (http://socialblade.com/youtube/youtube-money-calculator)
Obviously there’s a huge margin here but if this is the potential earnings from stealing other people’s work then why shouldn’t we be upset? (See end of post). The most common argument for Artzie is that it’s free exposure to close to 40,000 people and yes, that is true and a very good point. Currently, Artzie Music is a necessary evil of the genre; nobody wants to get rid of one of the biggest names in the style even though they exploit every single artist featured on it. Most of the artist’s are more than happy for Artzie to upload their tracks because it is another vessel of exposure to them. I wouldn’t have a problem with Artzie if they were upfront with the artists about their monetization of videos and asked permission from the artist for their works to be uploaded. You know, like a business? Because that’s all that Artzie has been since day 1; a business. There’s so much talk of Artzie being a pillar of support for the community when in reality the most “support” you’ll get is a link back to the artist’s SoundCloud page and maybe a Facebook if you’re lucky. They don’t even repost the tracks they steal on their personal SoundCloud page. Let’s not forget the fact that they’re openly asking for donations with a PayPal link on every video. It’s just all too shifty. Now something also worth mentioning here is the Artzie AM compilation, a join venture between Artzie and 94.20 AM, that was announced months ago and Volume 1 of 2 was released recently. I submitted a track months ago when submissions were open for this compilation. I never heard anything back from the Artzie AM team regarding my track, only to find out weeks later from someone unaffiliated to the process that they saw my name on a list and figured I may have been chosen. It wasn’t until the poster was released weeks after that I had any solid confirmation that they were going to use my track. Again; no communication from the Artzie AM team. Artzie had the chance to redeem themselves and their business practices with this compilation and once again chose to follow their usual business practice of take, take, take and no give. The problem with Artzie is that the community has put so much power of who gets exposure in the hands of one individual who has shown no intention of giving back to the community, instead reaping the fruits of other people’s labor.
EDIT: After the release of this article is has been pointed out to me by various different sources that the SocialBlade YouTube calculator is extremely off base, and really that’s no surprise since making money of YouTube is obviously going to be based on many different factors. However, the point still stands. It’s not the amount of money that I believe is the problem, it’s the bare fact that they’re profiting off other people’s works in the first place.
thanks for the follow on Soundcloud, aeon :^)

I sped up Saint Pepsi’s remix of Off the Wall to sound more like the original, and I really liked it!
