First watch opinions on Mononoke movie: Hinezumi: overall I enjoyed it BUT I do get what people are saying with it feeling less like mononoke. There was a lot of time spent on exposition that imo would have better been spent in the Obtuse Visual Symbolism department. The burning scenes felt a little generic as did the baby hinezumi imo, and the plot was more predictable (still good). The general pacing felt a lot easier to watch though, and I really enjoyed Botan.
ALSO personal preference but kon kusuriuri kindof grates on me. Get that little twink out of here. Bring back my guy,,, he has good moments and I like all the little shit :3 energy BUT he feels too. Likeable. It's probably just that the movies have a more prominent reoccurring cast that need to interact with him. BUT STILL. My favourite moments from the 2007 mononoke where when you could tell he cared more for the mononoke than the people. I liked my asshole guy :(
OVERALL I still liked it. But I came out knowing Exactly what had happened. I was thinking about karakasa for a whole week afterwards but that wont be the case for hinezumi :[

🕊️ Please Take a Moment to Read Nadin’s Story
My name is Nadin. I never imagined I would write something like this. I’ve always been someone who kept her worries quiet, someone who believed that even the hardest days could be endured with patience and faith. But right now, I am reaching out — not because I want to, but because I need to.
I am a wife, a mother, and one of many women in Gaza trying to survive days that feel like they have no end. There was a short time — a brief ceasefire — where we thought things might start to heal. Where the sound of war faded for just long enough to let us breathe. But that moment is gone now, and the fear has returned louder than before.
My days are filled with uncertainty, and my nights with prayer. We have lost so much. Our home was damaged, our sense of safety taken from us. But through all of this, I try to keep going. I try to hold on to what little peace I can create with my hands, my words, and my love.
I am not asking for much. Just a little help to keep our lives from falling further apart. To fix the small things — a cracked wall, a leaking roof, the pieces of daily life that help us hold on to dignity.
This campaign isn’t just about survival. It’s about holding on to what makes us human in a place that keeps trying to take that away. It’s about showing my daughter — even though I won’t mention her name here — that the world didn’t forget us.
If you’ve ever felt powerless in the face of suffering, please know that even the smallest gesture can carry great meaning. A kind word. A shared post. A quiet donation. These things remind us that we’re not alone.
My name is Nadin I’m a mother, a wife, and just one of many women in Gaza who are trying to hold on — to hope, to our families, to any piece
I am still here. Still holding on. Still believing that people out there — people like you — still care.
Please, if you feel moved, consider supporting or sharing this campaign.
I have some more choice words for this event splash art/design but I'm gonna hold my breath
to everyone who doesn’t like edmond’s new outfit because he doesn’t have a copious amount of skin showing you are WEAK!!!! it’s still basically skin-tight with thigh high boots, let the man dress normally for once in his life!!! we all know you’re just gonna strip him as soon as you get him anyways!!!!!!!
It's basically his normal uniform what are ppl on about that's literally what he wore everyday but a bit more spice.
If anything yall should be hating it because how SIMILAR it is to his normal uniform
Like no creative I'm actually disappointed
I think I've put my finger on what bugs me about the second Medicine Seller as compared to the first one: I haven't seen him demonstrate an understanding of the mononoke's feelings.
The first Medicine Seller talks about the mononoke, not just academically, but in a way that explores the confusion, the grief, and the anger behind them. He makes it clear that he understands those feelings, and that makes him in turn a more complicated character: on some level, he must feel those things too, or he wouldn't be able to empathize. We can see his impatience, his irritation, even a streak of cruelty towards humans. He has a dark side, one might even say a mononoke side.
With the second Medicine Seller, I haven't seen that yet. He cares about protecting humans, but does he care about their rage, their emotional pain, their ugliness? Can he slay the mononoke because he understands them, or merely because he has the Sword of Exorcism?
That's why my most fervent wish for the next movie is that we see more of who this Medicine Seller is. I want to see him more involved with the mononoke itself, more invested in its story. I want to see him get angry about it, or sad about it, or at least talk about what created it and what drove it.
My worry is that this won't happen, because it seems like Nakamura's goal with these stories is to focus more on the humans. The Medicine Seller almost feels like an afterthought. In Karakasa, Saburomaru takes on a lot of what the first Medicine Seller did: he's not only the main investigator, he's also the one who shows the most emotion over the mononoke's story. And it looks like Hinezumi is going to be about his sister, so I expect him to play a major role there too.
Hopefully I'm wrong. Maybe this Medicine Seller's "mother" nature will give him a closer connection to a mononoke that seems to be born of dysfunction between parent and child. Maybe he'll be able to empathize with the Hinezumi's rage. At least, I hope so. I want to see this Medicine Seller's dark side.
Same, like while I love the movie and my heart beats for Kon, I just felt that he's portrayed to be too... cold. Too impersonal, a little to heartless. But I believe it's more because of how the movie paced rather than his actual character.
The movie's pace is very different from the series, where it's much faster, much more jam-packed with characters, and much less Medicine Seller's presence. There is too little slow moment, where we get to breath and feel the atmosphere, or to just digest the overwhelming information we're just fed.
Which, results in a rather funny experience for me and my friend (who is not a fan of the series) that even after the second time watching it, we felt overwhelmed, but confused. We can kinda guess the reason behind the mononoke, but very much confused about who should we follow for the story throughout the movie. The design dictates the Medicine Seller to be the main character, but he's not.
We have very little time to see things from his perspective. Unlike with Ri where we get to see the story unfold from his view, here we only get to see from other characters pov, and Kon steps back to the background, his presence is far and few in between. He becomes a sort of quirky side-character that is the deus ex machina of the story. He is not the detective, not the instigator for the story to unfold, he's not even the reactor.
I don't know... I just wish we have a chance to know him more.
FANGS !!!!!! (CHEERING LOUDLY)
Babblegum bitch
The thing I love about Trafalgar Law is that he's actually a pretty wholesome guy. The Strawhats are (justifiably) worried about betrayal when they first ally with him but in the end he never, not for a single minute, even considers betraying them. He immediately caves and does what they want in Punk Hazard. Sure he was using them in Dressrosa so he could keep his own crew safe, but when push came to shove he tried to dissolve the alliance so they could get away, he decided to share Luffy's fate when he was fighting Doflamingo, he saved Zoro from Kaidou and said he'd rather they lose the fight than let them die, he gave Kid the Poneglyph markings because he thought it was fair. Even his powers are specifically designed so he can win fights without having to kill anyone. Beneath his (I'll bet carefully curated) creepy image, he's just a dude who wants people to live
Just thinking about that one plot summary that said the "Kon" Medicine Seller "subtly insinuated" himself into the Ooku. My man beat up a guard, nyoooomed down the hall, evaded that guard and two other guards by performing high-speed monkey gymnastics, and impressed the Otoshiyori with flying sword tricks and a dramatic declaration about being a demon slayer, whereupon she granted him a pass. The only way he could have been less subtle is if he'd crashed a truck through the Ooku wall.
ri: quiet, cunning, you'll forget he's even there sometimes because he's so still and silent
kon: MONONOKE! I SLAY THEM! runs in adhd at 600km/h, rizzes up the male guards, randomly screaming stuff no one understands while smiling like a kid who just set off 36 fireworks as a prank
