So I was listening to Dear Hank and John, and Hank mentioned his new baby, Orin, and told adorable stories about him. It just struck me then, that one day Orin would grow up, and I’d find out what he’s up to. Or at least I’d like to. And same with Henry and Alice. And then, as a forty something old lady, I know that I’d think to myself, “I’ve known your dad since before you were born kid.”, or I’d say stuff like, “I remember when you were about to be born. Your dad was so nervous.” or “I remember driving when your dad announced that you were gonna be born, on his podcast, and I remember screaming with excitement into my steering wheel, I was so happy!”

Needless to say, I’d feel like an annoying aunt, wanting to tell him stories about his parents and uncle and aunt and cousins. Though, it’s nothing that only I would know. I realized there are millions of people who think of Hank and John as family. Like those guys are my actual brothers, and how even if one day I stop watching Vlogbrothers, ten/twenty/thirty years down the line I’d still wanna know what they’re up to. How many grand kids they have, what college their kids went to etc.

But then my mind went somewhere a little darker lol :) I remembered the conversation I had with @virtualtastemakertale when we met, that we might outlive our favourites Rhett and Link. And how we don’t wanna live to see the day when one of them passes away. (Do you remember Shaoni?)

Why I mentioned that morbid thought is that It just makes me think, is it okay or healthy for us to get all of these wonderful people to mean so much like family to us, that we also experience all the hard stuff you go through with family?

And also, is it okay for me to feel like Orin’s aunt? Or is it too creepy? :P

Project for Awesome - Look Into My Eyes

Donate anything over zero dollars to the P4A, and I’ll draw your eyes / your favourite YouTuber’s eyes / your best friend’s eyes / your sweetheart’s eyes / your dog’s eyes… basically anybody’s eyes you want me to draw!

I’ve been told they work great as Facebook / Twitter / Tumblr header pics :)

Example of an ask: 

“I will donate ___ dollars if you draw Grace Helbig’s eyes” or “I will donate ___ dollars if you draw my eyes” and email your picture to me at [email protected] Check out my other perks here!

This year for the Project for Awesome, a bunch of creative Tumblr people including myself are offering to do requests for art, writing, or songs in exchange for pledges to donate to the P4A. A few of us did this last year and it was a really popular idea! The people participating are listed below along with what types of requests they are taking.  

To submit a request, send them a message like “I’ll donate $10 to the P4A if you draw a puppy-sized elephant eating pizza” with any amount of money and whatever you’re requesting. If they post what you requested, then you donate. I’ll be tagging my request posts with #P4A Requests and I encourage the other posters to do the same.

Basically what I did last year and what I’ll do this year is that I’ll write articles about the animals of someone’s choosing. I keep ADAD to dinosaurs only (so descendants of the most recent common ancestor of Megalosaurus & Iguanodon, which includes birds); but for P4A I offer to do entries about any organism someone might choose - such as other extinct animals (pterosaurs, plesiosaurs, et cetera) or animals alive today which aren’t birds (like mammals, other reptiles, et cetera).

Project for Awesome 2016!

As a lot of you know, Project for Awesome this year is on the 9th to 11th December. If you don’t know what the Project for Awesome is, check it out here and here.

Last year, @hanklerfishcomic did a wonderful thing by taking drawing requests in exchange for donations for the charity.

I will also be taking requests this year. I’ll be offering the following between 9th and 11th December:

1) Look into my eyes: (Anything over $0)

A while back I drew the eyes of several mythical beasts on tumblr. For any amount more than zero dollars for the P4A, I will draw the eyes of your favourite YouTubers / You / Your friends. I’ve been told that these work great as Facebook / Twitter / Tumblr header pic :)

2) Keep a straight face: (Anything over $30)

I will draw a pencil portrait of you / your favourite YouTubers for a donation of over $30 :)

3) From face to hand: (Anything over $60)

For a donation of $60 or more, I will draw a portrait of you / your favourite YouTuber and ship it to you :) (Please note that I will only be able to do a limited number of these)

Let’s raise a lot of money this year, Nerdfighters!

How it will work:

1. You message me on tumblr, or email me at [email protected] with which of the three you’re interested in, and the amount you’re planning to donate. If you’re requesting your own drawing, I’ll be needing a reference picture. For YouTubers/celebrities I will source them.

2. I will reply back with a confirmation if I am able to take it up (depending on how many requests I receive in total)

3. I will make your perk and post it on my tumblr, and you can copy it and use it anywhere you want. (In case of the third one, I’ll ship you the drawing as well)

4. You may donate only after I post the drawing, and of course I will trust that you will donate the promised amount :)

HGOOC Art Series

Hi everyone. It’s pretty rare that we make any post that isn’t just a Hank quote, but today we’re announcing our HankArt series. We’ve posted a lot of Hank quotes over the years, and we thought it’d be fun to do something more with them. With that in mind, we’ve been working with several nerdfighter artists to turn some of Hank’s great out of context quotes into art.

This series comes to you in 11 parts. That is, we have 11 pieces of art from 5 different artists that we’ll be featuring over the next week and a half. Also, shoutout to @nerdfighter-art for being probably the best way to find nerdfighter artists.
