#it's the last day of school #so we're doing nothing just hanging out #and theres one kid in the classroom #he's watching anime and a reality tv show simultaneously #at the same volume #not helping my sinus headache but that's no one's fault #what i cant believe is how he's paying attention to both and reacting to both #actually so impressive #kids these days #studyblr #high school teacher #math teacher #teaching

building a lesson that involves specifically concepts from our prob stats course AND movies (without doing moneyball, since we'll be having a sports lesson later in the week) is making me look at stuff more complicated that what i thesised on

#doing a deep deep dive on crowd simulations #bc i found the word probability in an article about it #and good god im not a computer science person #but i fear i will have to be if i want to go in this direction #and i do want to go in this direction #the things i learn to teach these kids #studyblr #high school teacher #math teacher #teaching

pros of finally reaching the end of the school year and finishing the curriculum actually on pace so we have a week of "fun" math classes:

students get to apply their lessons to non-district-designed lessons

low-stress, low-stakes classes

cons:

i have to scour the internet for ideas on how to connect these kids' interests to specifically probability and statistics

#i was a fool #i had them fill out a form on topics theyre interested in #bc maybe they grew since the beginning of year survey #and each student chose a separate topic #it was an even split #like are we kidding #currently looking at ways my juniors can learn more about music through prob stats #i could be really creative with it #but i want to also make it interesting and actually keep them engaged #the goal of these lessons is ultimately at this point #for them to be like oh cool i learned something new about this thing i liked #doesnt even have to be a math takeaway #but dang guys #why is this harder than i thought itd be #maybe im just too critical about my ideas #math teacher #high school teacher #studyblr #teaching
