Damn good.
Obstetric violence is institutional violence. Break the silence.
This BURNS me up. As my title states, Hospice is like birth but in the reverse direction. So why the everloving hell, when I get to dim the lights, play music, make people comfortable, honor their values, and try to make every day as good as possible on the exit, would L&D condone sexual violence (yes it is) to be committed on what Society forces women to refer to as “the happiest day of my life - the day my child was born”? Do we hate women this much, to willfully and unnecessarily mutilate, *and then claim to have done it for their well-being*?
This. Cannot. Continue.
But - on a more hopeful note. One of my classmates from nursing school - “Mandoula” - beautifully advocated for his laboring wife, and pretty much had to fight off aggressive interventions, in a hospital that was so accustomed to medically extracting babies with no regard for the woman’s body. He is a gentle, soft-spoken man, who needed to protect his wife from doctors who yes, tried to bully them. It shouldn’t have been so hard for her to have a good birth. If I had to fight this hard for every good death…..well, shit.
I haven’t spoken to him in quite a while, but I hear he is training L&D nurses. And this makes me so, so happy.
This is why we doula.
The #HospitalGlam selfie movement helps those enduring regular medical treatments take control over their bodies.

*wakes up* alright what the fuck
It's like my body thinks if I throw up it will get all the awful feelings I have out along with everything I ate the past few days.
“No matter how many times they call me ‘thunder thighs,’ I’ll never be ashamed of my body… Loving my body has really given me the greatest satisfaction of all.”

Softly Lit Portraits Of Women, Piotr Czyz
“The kids have moved out. It’s like we were in a routine for twenty-five years, and now it’s come to an end. Suddenly it’s just the two of us. There’s nothing else to focus on. It’s been a rediscovery process. So we just bought some hiking backpacks. We’re going travel the world, and we’re not planning ahead.”
