“Dickie McDuck has kind of a nice ring to it, don’t you think?”
Goldie rolled her eyes in response and sunk further into her seat on the plane. “Not at all. If you’re looking to make a change, how about Dickie O’Gilt?”
“Well that just sounds kind of silly,” Dickie said with a smirk.
Her grandmother stuck out her tongue and shrugged. “You know changing your name’ll cost like $300, right?”
“What?!” The teen’s mouth hung open. “Well then forget that! I’ll just stick with Dickie Duck until I die. Or get married, maybe?”
Goldie laughed, maybe a bit for the wrong reasons, and glanced over at Scrooge chatting with his little clone and her grandmother. “Hard to imagine that.”
“Marriage?” Dickie asked, following her granny’s line of sight. “Well, I won’t pretend it’s on my to-do list, but I don’t exactly have the same hang-ups about it as you do.”
“I don’t have hang-ups about marriage.”
“Uh-huh,” Dickie mumbled with a small smile. She resisted the urge to poke fun at her grandma’s relationship further and just stuck out her hand out instead, very expertly changing the subject. “Check out this cool ring Gyro made!”
Goldie reached a hand out and turned Dickie’s hand to get a better look. “Did you say made?”
“Yeah!” Dickie smiled. “It can do all sorts of cool techy things! And it has my schedule and an alarm clock in it so I won’t be late for stuff all the time.”
“Sounds like it’s the perfect gift for you. Maybe now you won’t be late for class every other day.”
Dickie pointed past her grandmother as the hanger door to the plane slowly opened and they both yelped as they were shot into the sky along with every other passenger.
Goldie huffed and looked over at her granddaughter as they freefell and the wind whipped through their blonde coifs. Dickie was smiling and screaming like she’d never had this much fun in her entire life and Goldie rolled her eyes as she thought about how sometimes it was really hard to deny she’d been raising a McDuck.
