Some theories and notes from when I was reading HOSAB, this will be a bit long. I added more after going through my notes and I'm using lines I highlighted from the book.
[HOSAB Spoilers Ahead]
• Prythian is fucked. The Asteri are the Daglan and they want to return to Prythian to avenge the death of their sisters and brothers and because they want to feed on the magic since it has so many. “They overthrew our brethren who once ruled there—we have not forgotten. Our initial attempt at revenge was foiled by your ancestor who also bore that star on her chest. The Fae have still not atoned for the deaths of our brothers and sisters. Their home world was rich in magic. I crave more of it.” (Rigelus speaking to Bryce).
• Queen Theia is very likely the wife of the High King Fionn (The first HK of Prythian) and she betrayed him along with his best friend and General Pelias (piece of shit). Midgard was created 1000 years prior to their arrival, so the Asteri drew them to it and they opened a portal to Midgard with another item (The Harp) and the Horn and they also had Gwydion (Starsword) with them. Theia and her daughters realized it was too late and only Theia's daughter managed to return to Prythian and shut the portals (likely with the Harp). “Your ancestors wielded the Horn and another Fae object that allowed them to enter this world. Stolen, of course, from their original masters—our people.”
• The Daglan created other Angel prototypes like the Illyrians, Seraphim, and Peregryn. The Illyrians are a unique case because they have chaotic magic if they didn't use siphons, and they have demon wings and that's why Bryce thought Azriel was a demon. Enalius, the first Illyrian, sided with the Fae and defended Ramiel from the Daglan who were desperate to reach it for a reason. Currently, Ramiel sits on a very important piece of information and it possibly could be a Daglan palace carved underneath it. It's also an access point. The IC might possibly discover items and treasures belonging to the Daglan or something more.
• The lore behind the Blood Rite is to honor Enalius, but not more is explained or cleared up. There is a theory that the Blood Rite exists because the Daglan test their creation (e.g. Illyrians) and to pick the elite warriors (Carynthians) for the Wild Hunt. The fact that the Illyrians continue the Blood Rite means if the Daglan ever return they already have an army ready for them if the Illyrians ever submit to them because of fear.
• Azriel may have to give up Truth-teller as it's Bryce and Ruhn's by birthright and so the prophecy about the sword and the knife uniting the Fae comes true.
• I think Sarah is setting up the High King plot for Rhysand. If they discover that there is a larger threat from another dimension that want to come to Prythian and conquer it then the courts will have to be United and the High King Fionn tale will play over again with Rhys. Ruhn and Rhys's stark resemblance could hint at the fact that Rhys is a descendant of the Starborn, possibly Theia's second daughter.
• It's been confirmed that Urd is The Mother as we know her in ACOTAR and she is the one Nesta has a connection to. Urd is also likely Fate herself and she is responsible for the Mating Bonds.
• The Dread Trove is the Daglan's creation but the missing piece of information is it's been said the Mask was designed after the face of a long forgotten king and it's the Mask Helion Spellcleaver cringed from and couldn't stand the sight of it, he said maybe someone from his bloodline used it and the warning of using it is imprinted on their bloodline.
• Nesta could be the conduit for Bryce to find her way to Hel. Nesta still has some of her powers thanks to the Mother and we also have Merrill researching the 26 dimensions so that could come in handy. “The Fae—Queen Theia and her two foolish daughters—realized that, though too late. Her people were already here, but she and the princesses discovered where my siblings had hidden the access points in their world.” One of the access points could be the prison and that's why Nesta heard people screaming behind the walls, it could be the Fae that tried to return to Prythian before the portals were sealed off and they got stuck.
• “You will undo the actions of one ignorant princess fifteen thousand years ago.” This likely means the last person that used the Harp was Queen Theia's second daughter.
• “If it’s of any interest to you, your Starborn bloodline specifically hailed from a small isle a few miles from the mainland. And while the mainland had all manner of climes, the isle existed in beautiful, near-permanent twilight.” In ACOSF it was mentioned that Fionn's wife was the leader of her own land, then it must be the Dusk Court. This is why the stone the Harp was standing on had the engraving of the Starborn emblem. I kind of doubt that the isle is the Prison, it could be the isle between Day and Night Court borders which would make sense given the name. The Prison based on Feyre's description is a barren small isle but I still could be wrong.
• "“There is a ritual I could perform … It’d need to be on the Autumnal Equinox, though.” “When the veil between realms is thinnest,” Ruhn said." I know this piece of information is going to be very important for us.
• “It’s an ancient sword,” the Autumn King said at last, drawing Ruhn from his wandering thoughts, “from another world. Made from the metal of a fallen star—a meteorite. This sword exists beyond our planet’s laws. Perhaps the Reapers sensed that and shied away.” I wonder if the same applies to Truthteller or it's powers are accessed when a Starborn wields it. “But the Starsword still sang, and Bryce had no idea what to make of it. Of the blade that had slain that which was unkillable.” Can the Starsword/Gwydion actually kill Koschei the Deathless? Wouldn't have Fionn tried if that was true?
• “Death’s Day was a lively one, despite its name: it was a day of balance between the light and dark, when the veil between the living and dead was thinnest.” Another event that says the veil between two dimensions is the thinnest.
• “When knife and sword are reunited, so shall our people be. You have the Starsword. What if … I don’t know. What if there’s a knife out there for me?” Good luck taking that knife out of Azriel's hands. But I wonder what does the prophecy mean? Which people? The Fae from Prythian or the Starborn Fae specifically?
• “a Starlight Fancy horse called Thunderbird: a blue-and-white unicorn-pegasus who could wield all types of energy. She’d never gotten her hands on one, though she’d yearned to.” (Pegasus, blue and white) reminded me of Gwyn. I do have a theory that Gwyn's powers could be similar to a Thunderbird since hers was also described as crackling energy (but that can also relate to flames). “Energy of any type was hers to command, to suck into herself. Her kind had been hunted to extinction by the Asteri centuries ago because of that mighty, unconquerable gift—or so it had seemed.”
• “Cormac is powerful, his household strong. I want you in Avallen because it is a safehold. Even the Asteri cannot pierce its mists without permission, so old is the magic that guards it.” D
I honestly did not expect the Asteri to end up being this terrifying. I can't imagine how Koschei would compare, he is an old god and as old as the sea so I can't tell what he is but I think Koschei wants the Daglan/Asteri to return. There is so much to dissect here 😂
HOSAB was good, great, fantastic and all of that bUT let's make one thing fucking clear, Bryce Adelaide Quinlan: Nesta is not pretty. She is drop dead gorgeous. A literal living goddess. Nothing less.
Ruhn x Day moments that made me want to scream and cry and throw up
Who allowed them to be this fucking cute?? 🔪🔪🔪
Let’s start by this very obvious, very SJM-like mating bond language. A golden song?? That made his soul brighten?? Just kill me already
When Ruhn felt calm and safe and happy with Daybright and my whole soul exploded >>>>
When Daybright sensed that Ruhn was in danger and immediately jumped to help?? That’s mate behaviour honey boo
“My mind reached for yours” is the new “You’re my mate I’m just too dumb to realise it”
Voice kink, I’m telling you
When Ruhn told her (the first person he’d ever confessed it to) what the Oracle had predicted for him and how he doubted he’d be a good father anyway and Daybright said THAT... #RuhnBestDadAcrossAllWorlds I know he’d be!!
The first time he heard his name from her lips and my man lost it >>>
I’m sorry but I lost my goddamn mind at this 😩😩 It’s the MATES for me 🗣🗣
This shit isn’t even funny anymore. I’ve known them for TWO days and they already have me on a chokehold???
Special mention to Ruhn being a stupidly caring babe during sex because why the fuck is he so perfect in every way???
It’s pretty safe to say that every single one of their moments is a favourite of mine. And that identity reveal at the end was EPIC. I know the next book will bring a shit ton of angst for them and it’s gonna serve. I can’t wait 👀
wtf was that ending??? the most anticlimactic shit i have ever read... we asked for a nesta book but we GOT FEYSAND PROPAGANDA INSTEAD?
sjm couldn’t even entertain the POSSIBILITY of a nesta supremacy 2021??? she’s just complacent to the IC now.. barely any powers yet feysand get to keep theirs and then some??????? there was so much potential for her magic and this is how it ends? her apologizing on her KNEES?? the bitch who had rhys shaking in his boots to then go hug him🤢
i’m so sleep deprived, i’m so annoyed. i got this book for FREE but i still feel like my time and money was wasted. again i’m calling all my fanfic writers to do my girl nesta some justice.
Reading this post again after its almost been a full year since the garbage that was ACOSF was released and the feelings are still the same. RIP to all that potential.
