Howdy! I'm Nessie! (It/Its) I'm a 100 foot long semi-aquatic cryptid somewhere between a mollusk or as of yet undiscovered long neck seal that's been moonlighting as a transsexual chick for the past 15 years or so. It just seemed like the right move.

Along with my more consistent, lifelong hyper fixations, I am completely beholden to Silksong right now. It has gripped my heart in such a way as I’ve not know since, like, being a middle schooler and seeing Shadow the Hedgehog for the first time.

Apropos of nothing, it is actually so unfortunate that so many people’s exposure to feminism online is the type of feminism 101 “did you know that”isms used to get 18 year olds in college to think outside of their experiences for a single minute—a mechanism entirely designed to placate academic administrations that were antagonistic to gender studies departments and tailor made for, you guessed it, the male fucking perspective—instead of what feminism actually is which is targeted, intersectional, and informed activism towards the pursuit of gender equality. It has created a world where the vast majority of feminism content you see online are hot takes that ape the tenor of professors trying to convince cis boys that gender inequality is real and are thus toothless by virtue of their design, instead of what really matters which is and has always been DISMANTLING THE PATRIARCHY BRICK BY GOD DAMNED BRICK

Seeing someone romanticize 2014 feminism is such a wild trip as a trans woman who was out then. But then again, I’m sure it did feel quite idealistic if you didn’t have to worry about the fact that you got gendered correctly more often at your job at Starbucks than you did in your 2014 gender studies class lmao.

for the love of god cis people STOP centering YOUR grief when the trans people in your life come out and transition. “your parents are just grieving the daughter they lost” and that’s worth missing out on the son they’ve gained? these kind of cis people are so obsessed with gender and they think men and women are so inherently different that they act like I killed their daughter when all I did was dig up their son. I’m the same person I was but now I’m happier and more confident but you’re so distracted on your “grief” that you can’t even see me.

It’s so crazy that any part of society indulges the idea that you could grieve your idea of somebody’s identity that you were wrong about it. If you’re so wrapped up in who you think someone should be instead of wanting to know who they are and can be, to the point that it causes you duress, then you have legitimately no idea what it means to love.

It might seem odd that the queer community is so quick to derision and take downs for how practically life or death it is for us to form systems of community with each other, but it makes sense when you realize how many of us are introduced to it through being groomed and how much behavior policing is a key ingredient in grooming.

I do not begrudge anyone turning an abuse tactic into a defense mechanism, but we do all owe each other breaking the pattern at some point.
