@netmomplus
I picked up a new show recently. Not planning to watch it all at once but I had a vision.
I feel like Kosuzu would be a fujoshi. I dunno, she just gives off that vibe. Like sheâs got that super secret BL stash Mamizou gifted her as an apology for literally all the antics she pulled in Forbidden Scrollery and now she reads those every night.
Mamizou is also a fujoshi just to make that clear she is 100% shipping those old dudes at Geidontei.
Nice Nature would probably post some shit like "fuck my bronzemaxxing umacel life" on umatter if she were active on social media tbh. She just seems like that kind of person.
Tell me, Adeimantus â you who have spent so many hours in the discords and subreddits of our people â what is it that distinguishes a shounen anime from a shoujo?
I confess I have never considered the matter carefully, Socrates. I suppose shounen is for boys and shoujo is for girls?
A fine beginning. But let us look deeper. Imagine a young boy, playing with his toys. Does he not bash them together?
He does, yes.
And do he and his friends not argue endlessly over which of their toys would win in a fight?
Constantly, and with great passion.
Now imagine a young girl, playing with her toys. Does she not make them kiss?
âŠShe does.
Does she not argue with her friends not over who would win in a fight, but over who belongs with whom?
I begin to see where you are going.
And if Aphrodite has been kind, and has bestowed upon her the ÏÎżÏ ÏζÏÏÎč nature â does she not find her brother's Naruto and Sasuke toys, and make them explore each other's bodies?
I â yes, Socrates. I suppose she does.
Then the soul of shounen discourse is powerscaling â who beats whom â and the soul of shoujo discourse is shipping â who loves whom, and how, and with what degree of emotional devastation.
That seems correct.
Now. Is there a further distinction to be made, within these categories? Between those who are, as the moderns say, woke, and those who are chuds?
I think there must be, though I am uncertain how to draw it.
Consider: is it not the woke who care deeply about the precise definitions of abuse and consent â who will debate endlessly about power imbalances and trauma responses and what exactly constitutes a toxic dynamic?
It is. I have seen these debates. They are very long.
And do the chuds not repudiate such pretensions entirely, and concern themselves only with who is the most attractive â who, as they put it, is best to goon to?
They do, and they are also very loud about it.
Good. Then let us apply this framework to some examples, so that we may be sure we understand it. What of Dragon Ball Z?
Clearly a shounen. The discourse is entirely about power levels. Goku versus Superman. Whether Vegeta could beat Frieza if he had another week to train. Neither especially woke nor especially chud â simply loud.
Ouran High School Host Club?
Shoujo, plainly. The discourse is entirely about which host Haruhi should end up with. Neither particularly woke nor unwoke â simply romantic.
Steven Universe?
Woke shoujo, and almost insultingly obvious. The entire discourse concerns whether various gems were abusive toward Steven, what his codependency with his father means, and whether Spinel deserved better. I have never once seen anyone ask whether Steven could beat a particular gem in a fight. I have seen thousands of words written about whether Pink Diamond was a victim or a perpetrator.
And now â Chainsaw Man?
Surely it is a shounen? It has a chainsaw for a head. There are extremely gory fight scenes. I would have said⊠neither woke nor chud, perhaps. But certainly shounen.
Think carefully, Adeimantus. Did not the scene in the back alley, with Yoru, and the nature of what she offered Denji â did that not spark hundreds of Reddit threads?
âŠIt did. I remember them. They were quite heated.
And were they debating whether Denji could beat a given devil in a fight?
No. They were debating whether what occurred constituted a meaningful violation, given Denji's initial objection and Asa's anger.
Consent and abuse discourse.
âŠYes.
And do not some fans still mourn Reze, and insist she was the one who truly understood Denji? While others argue passionately that Asa is the only one who could give him what he actually needs?
The shipping wars are, I will admit, extensive.
And have you ever â even once â heard Chainsaw Man fans argue about whether Denji could beat a particular devil in a straight fight?
âŠI cannot say that I have.
Then observe what we have found. Chainsaw Man's discourse is concerned not with power, but with relationships. It is therefore shoujo. Its discourse is concerned not with attractiveness, but with abuse, consent, and emotional damage. It is therefore woke. And thus â
Astonishing, Otakrates. Chainsaw Man is a woke shoujo manga.
I could not have said it better myself.
I really wish I had funny things to say about Umamusume like I do with Touhou but unfortunately Iâm only a recent fan who just got into it.
That being said Maruzensky is great and hilarious and I hope to obtain her as soon as possible.
It only took me eight months, but!
i think they look similar
List of Touhou girltwinks
Nue: Sheâd be modeling in another universe. Fits all the criteria for a hag but ends up youthful enough that no one dares call her one. Skinny physique and hair carry the twinkish vibe.
Aya: The most obvious one. Being built for speed and flight means sheâs got zero meat on her bones but that just means she can squeeze her way into more bullshit.
Tsukasa: Skinny legend built like a tube. A pool noodle even. She should probably eat more but God sheâs such a picky fucking eater.
Sekibanki: If it werenât for that big ribbon youâd be thinking thatâs the prettiest boy youâve ever seen. Definitely one of the seriesâs most boyish.
Futo: Dare sayeth madame that she be the mightiest of such individuals. Some call her a child, but nay, sheâs simply channeled her muscle into her feng shui and her height into her hat.
Yachie: A reminder of the capacity for evil that exists within many twinks. Even you, dear reader.
Wriggle Nightbug is arguably past the girltwink label straight into full twink in she/they form. She is the ultra twink. He/Him twinks look to her for guidance.

I like envisioning separate headcanons for each umaâs career trainer. Like completely different backgrounds and appearances.
Special Week, for example, gets a woman in her late-30s who gets the coveted âthird momâ position and is miraculously wealthy enough to afford her food bills.
Nice Nature gets an overly enthusiastic man whoâs probably too young to be a professional trainer but heâs doing his best. He enjoys origami but is terrible at it.
TM Opera O gets a man in his 40s who is about two life sized Opera statues away from an astronomical crashout but he does his best to believe in her regardless because he likes seeing her happy.
Vodka and Scarlet get a pair of exes who feel deeply awkward around each other and secretly hope their trainees get together because their relationship would probably be healthier than the trainersâ relationship ever was.

To go with this, I've uploaded a new version of the Core Rulebook. This version includes tweaks to the translation, new errata, and notably a piece of text that was missing under the Time Limit rules on p. 203 (my bad).
It's recommended that you redownload the full rar file to get the latest versions of everything, including the books, sheets, maps and character tokens!

Poor Shinko Windy wants to be evil so bad. Alas, she was diagnosed with terminal baby disease from a young age and is forced to be baby no matter how hard she wishes to be evil. Truly tragic đ.
Who are the best Touhous to marry?
Preferably you want someone who isnât tied up with other obligations (for example, Sakuya is too married to her job) but is also emotionally mature and responsible. Maybe they have a real job with a real income, or maybe they just have a lot of life experience. Also want someone who wonât contemplate eating you so that checks off a good few youkai.
As a result, I have concocted a shortlist. A best candidate per game since 6. Do with it what you want.
EoSD: Meiling (Perfectly emotionally mature. Naps, but sheâs got a stable job and seems fun to be around if youâre into martial arts.)
PCB: Yuyuko (An absolute weirdo but sheâs got a nice house and is perfectly nice to people she likes. Plus, Youmuâs the helper so you donât have to deal with the gardening.)
IN: Keine (Self-explanatory. Stable job, mature and sensible, big fluffy tail to pet every full moon, and you get her emotional support bum Mokou as a friend.)
PoFV: Aya (Somehow she claims the top. Has a job, will be annoying and maybe her loyalty to the tengu makes things awkward life-wise but your other options are rough.)
MoF: Kanako (Most likely person in Gensokyo to own a television set. Even if they only have it so Sanae can watch old Gundam VHS tapes. Also pretty normal if youâre willing to devote yourself to The Cause, the cause being âget more faithâ.)
SA: Yuugi (Perfectly decent person for an oni. Manages hot springs and will probably treat you really well, just be sure youâre the type whoâs willing to hit the gym once in a while because she prefers you strong.)
UFO: Shou (Byakuren seems like the most expected pick but I feel like sheâd be voluntarily celibate and also just focused on work. So your best bet is Shou, whoâs also devoted but has clear vices and probably would be down to marry.)
TD: Miko (She would not be into the whole monogamy thing, she had three wives for crying out loud, but if youâre okay with that then itâs hard to go for anyone but the woman with marriage experience.)
DDC: Benben (Why Benben? Outside of maybe Yatsuhashi being a persistent third wheel Benben is probably the single most normal person in the entire cast. Cool-headed older sister isnât much for personality but unlike the runners up she lacks the caveats of constant loud drumming (Raiko) or probably smelling like meat (Kagerou).)
LoLK: Doremy (She may be busy with work but she manages the damn dream world, itâs not much in terms of rulership but imagine how great the conversations would be. Never a dull moment with her even when youâre discussing work.)
HSiFS: Okina (Sometimes an answer feels wrong but then you go over the other options and realize youâre dodging a bullet. Okina is that answer. Genuine weirdo that no one likes, but sheâs got doors to everywhere and two quirky henchmen, you take what you can get.)
WBaWC: Urumi (She fishes for a living. Everyone loves fishing. Plus, she doesnât drown people anymore so the danger factor of a lot of other options just ainât there. Elephant in the room joke goes here.)
UM: Takane (Youâre marrying a manlet, but sheâs a manlet with a lot of money and a lot of business savvy. Will lead to a stable life with a bit more technological comforts thanks to their weird relationship with the kappa.
UDoALG: Biten (You get to hang out with monkeys all day, and come on. Hanging out with monkeys is what a lot of people live for. And she knows how to make booze.)
FW: Yuiman (Specifically post-being freed of lunar mind control. Sheâs a bit of a weirdo but she seems enthusiastic and friendly, and she knows how to hunt deer so sheâs got practical knowledge.)
