Ayşegül books were the equivalent of Dora the Explorer when I was growing up. A very savvy artist converted the series to match various scenes from the events in Istanbul; Ayşegül is cleaning the park, Ayşegül run, dont lotik back, Ayşegül gets sprayed with pepper, Ayşegül and the TOMA, ( crowd control vehicle) Ayşegül is at the infirmary...

Strange predicament

I am in Turkey yet I feel even more detached from the events. If you are not actively at the squares and protests, this place has a way of making you feel like nothing is happening. Only one channel (halkTV) broadcast events. YouTube is not working right. Several of the websites I look at are not inaccessible due to being blocked by the government. My internet connection is slow and painful to use. I am closer yet much much removed from it all. I am unable to post much here right now I apologize for disappointing followers :-(

Diren Austin! "Resist Austin!"

It seems Rick Perry, who has managed to retain the governor post in Texas over ten years, has the same mindset as Tayyip Erdoğan. Perhaps politicians get an illness after being in power over a decade -- the symptoms seem to be: arrogance, disdain for other's rights, entitlement, and a need to sell everything for personal gain.

Both leaders want to sell and otherwise commercialize everything their state has, both use religion to get votes, both are also adamant about controlling women's rights and access to free healthcare.

Texas senator Wendy Davis, prevented the voting of the latest horrible bill from the republican party of Texas by filibustering (stalling the voting process by talking on the subject at hand for uninterrupted eleven whopping hours). She is a true hero. She was supported by a huge crowd both inside and outside the capitol building in Austin.
