I've been quite on here of late but I assure you I've been busy adventuring all over the place. I was invited to be a part of a recon team to raft down the mighty Mohaka for the first time this season and man was it awesome. This is what it looks like just before getting ejected from a raft on a grade 5 rapid. I was the last man standing before the raft flipped. I'm back in the North Island for Christmas with family and friends and since I've been back in the north I've been on a rafting trip and spent the most amazing weekend camping, fishing and toasting marshmallows over an open fire. I got to see penguins, dolphins and shared stories around the camp fire with family and friends for 3 days with no other people around and it's only an hour out of Auckland. This place is a magical spot I've been going to for years, I've caught a 26 pound snapper here my biggest yet. Camping here was such a pleasure swimming all day long in crystal clear warm water and catching fresh snapper off the rocks. This is spotx

Sabine jetty, Lake Rotoroa. This photo was taken on the last night of my 17 day expedition, to stand here by myself in total silence was special and in this moment I felt so alive with thoughts of adventures ahead and the adventure I'd just completed. With so many possibilities and exciting trips to come I couldn't help but feel lucky, truth is luck has nothing to do with it. (at Lake Rotoroa, New Zealand)

This one resonates with me. I've gone from having a structured routine every day running a stressful building business to living each and every day with no real plans or specific timetables. The truest form of freedom is doing what you want when you want and having no expectations or planned outcomes. All my friends and family now know not to bother asking what my plans are because I don't have the faintest idea where I will end up from one day to the next, all I have is this desire to explore and go on adventures all the time. It's truly wonderful to live life this way. To live your dreams first takes huge risk and commitment to leave behind everything you've been taught about how life should be, to then starting from scratch rewriting your novel of life from the start. Most my friends and family thought I was crazy at first but I think now they can see I'm truly happy and grateful for each and every day. I think deep down we all know what our dreams are but we are so busy following and chasing them the we don't actually get to live them. "The biggest risk in life is to take no risk at all". This is Lake Rotorua, Nelson Lakes national park, NZ. The word rotoroa is Māori for long lake. The greatest depth is 145 metres and the lake is completely surrounded by beech forest. This photo was taken right outside the Sabine Hut on the far end of the lake where the only access is is either by boat or by walking 9.5 hours from St Arnaud or Lake Rotoiti. The hut has stunning views from the inside looking out, it's peaceful and quiet with little use over the winter months. Rotomairewhenua or Blue Lake. An hour before this photo was taken it was dumping with snow and an hour before that it was crystal clear skies. The weather here is so changeable eg: all day it was hot and sunny then within 15 minutes it was snowing and I couldn't see a thing for an hour. This place has a magical feeling about it that's welcoming and at the same time very dangerous in terms of how fast the weather changes. The mountains rise up over 1,000m in every direction, it makes for some stunning scenery and photography as well as total peace and quiet especially when your here by yourself. This is Rotopōhueroa or Lake Constance it's an alpine lake in the South Island of New Zealand. This lake has an underground river that filters the water that leads into Rotomairewhenua or Blue Lake it's a small lake in Nelson Lakes National Park, in the northern reaches of New Zealand's Southern Alps. Sacred to local Māori, it has the clearest natural fresh water in the world. Blue Lake lies within the rohe (tribal area) of Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō. The lake was traditionally used in ceremonies to cleanse the bones and release the spirits of the dead, so they could begin their journey to Hawaiki, and the iwi regard its waters as tapu (sacred). (Blue Lake was used only for males; Lake Constance was used for females.) Its Māori name, Rotomairewhenua, means "the lake of peaceful lands". Below me in this photo is Hinapouri Tarn. I walked from Rotomaninitua or lake Angelus to the summit of Maninairo or Angelus Peak in the background. There's actually two tarns but both are considered one with only a thin strip separating them. The tarns and lakes were discovered and named by Ngati Apa tupuna (ancestors) who used these landscape features as trail markers as they journeyed across their rohe (ancestral lands) over many centuries. Tupuna were steeped in knowledge of whakaapa (ancestry), traditional trails and taonga and placed great importance on the tapu (sacred) nature of the tarns and lakes and their role in signifying, asserting and sustaining Ngati Apa identity. It was such a cool sight to see after climbing over the rock ridge I'm standing on. (at Angelus Hut, Nelson Lakes National Park)

This is Rotomairewhenua or Blue Lake and it's the clearest cleanest lake on the planet. Rotomairewhenua, means "the lake of peaceful lands". The lake has extremely clear water, and is the clearest natural body of fresh water yet reported. A 2011 study found its visibility ranged from 70 to 80 metres, clearer than the 63 metres measured for Te Waikoropupu Springs, a previous record holder. For comparison, laboratory measurements show distilled water has a visibility of approximately 80 metres. Scientists attribute the lake water's clarity to its passage underground from Lake Constance, which filters out nearly all the particles suspended in the water. Its clarity reveals water's natural blue-violet colour. Well after 17 days in the wild Nelson Lakes wilderness I'm finally out and I have some 2,500 photos of my epic expedition but so I don't bore you with photos I'll share a few of the best over the next 3 days before my next adventure begins.
