Everything is Love
Anybody who knows me now I used to be a way bigger Jay Z fan than Beyonce fan. In fact, when we went to see her in 2016, there were whole albums (4 and B-Day; only knew the singles) of hers I hadn’t listened to. Self-titled made me a super fan and Lemonade made me a stan.
Jay Z? Always have known every song bar for bar- my standom for him started in 2004. If you want to see me get out of character, play anything by him, specifically the Blueprints or the Black Album. I still have that blog, Heart of the City, where every blog post was named after a Jay Z song.
However, it has become clear to me that Beyonce is better at what she does than he is at what he does, thought they’re both the best to do everything they’ve ever done, respectively. Beyonce just illustrates more aspects of life than Jay ever has or could; he just got in touch with himself like three years ago. Y’all are finding his material “weak” since 4:44 because his talent was contextual, and as he gets older, he can’t tap the same way because his source material has changed. He’s a gymnast that now being forced to swim.
But don’t get it twisted. I Stan for both, because that is possible for complex beings.
