omega mack who has no sense of smell and so just assumed Will was also an omega because of his gorgeous looks. And he hated Will all through college because he’s just such a perfect stereotypical omega—soft skin, pretty golden curls, blue eyes. Beautiful smile and easy going personality. A harem of alphas that hang around him all the time.

And Mack hates Will for all of that because Mack himself has spent his whole life being told he’s not ‘omega enough’. Too bratty, too bulky, too aggressive on the ice.

Then they both get drafted to the sjs and Mack continues to hate Will’s guts and every inch of the perfect stereotypical omega that he is. Especially when Will starts baking and bringing the team sweet treats. Mack is a terrible cook even though omegas are supposed to be good at cooking…

Mack especially hates that Will is just so damn friendly and kind. Even to Mack, who does nothing but snap at him and insult him and try to start meaningless fights. He feels kind of bad because he and Will are the only omegas on the team but he can’t help but feel nothing but jealousy when he looks at Will.

But then Mack goes into a sudden breakthrough heat from his suppressants, and he doesn’t know what to do. The only other omega he knows is Will, so he goes to him desperately and asks for help.

Will is shocked. “What the fuck, Mack. Are you in heat?”

“Yes and I need your help.”

Will’s eyebrows shoot up to his hairline. “You want me to help? Are you pranking me right now?”

Mack scowls at him. “Look, I know I’m an asshole to you all the time, and I’m sorry. But this is an emergency. I need someone to drive me home before it gets really bad. Omega-to-omega, help me out?”

Will just stares at him in confusion, almost at a loss for words. “Omega-to-omega?”

But Mack is getting pissed off and Will can smell how bad his heat is so he just chooses to ignore what he surely misheard and takes Mack back to his house. His whole family are omegas so he’s knows all about how to care for them and make them feel safe. He sets Mack up in his nest and brings him lots of snacks and water to keep by him during his heat.

Will is about to leave but Mack is looking at him with big round eyes. “I’ve never had a heat before. I don’t wanna be alone. Stay with me?”

And Will is like Jesusfuckwhatgodhelpme!

Despite the fact that Mack seems to hate Will so much for no reason, Will has had a huge crush on Mack since college. He’s always thought Mack was beautiful and the most perfect omega he’s ever seen—but nothing will ever come of his crush because Mack hates him and it breaks his heart every day.

And now Mack is asking Will to stay with him during his heat??? Does he mean what Will thinks he means???

“Mack—I can’t. You know I can’t.”

“M’sorry I’m so mean to you. Please, Will. I just need another omega here with me. You’ve done this before, right?”

And Will is like woahhhh hold up! There it is again. Does Mack seriously think Will is an omega? Damn, that kind of stings. Yeah, everyone is always assuming that Will is an omega at first because of his soft looks but then they realise their mistake when they take in his very alpha scent and apologise for the assumption.

Can you tell is a bit more about macklin and his temperament at BU that you were talking about? 👀

Well it was pretty well known that he was very hard to get along with when he was at BU, although keep in mind he was 17 and also The Next Big Thing for the draft, so there could be A LOT of factors going into this. It seems to have taken a while for him to have made friends with some of the guys, most of the leg work for that was done by Aiden*, and he famously did NOT get along with his captain** and the two fought a lot, and then there's another player he fought with as well. Mostly that fighting was verbal, although there's instances he'd get physical too. Their coach seemed to have gassed Mack up a ton as well, so who knows what the environment was like for everyone else the year he was there. *I know especially with the Marathon Monday stuff that some attention was shone on BU players that have basically stayed under the radar but are known as having been friends/roommates with Mack. Most of them have maintained very close relationships with Aiden, which is probably one of the big reasons why Mack can slot back into things when he visits. I'm not saying these guys are more Aiden's friends now than not, BUT... **said captain has spoken positively about Mack in interviews post-BU, now whether that's because he's smart enough to say the right thing or they get along now who knows

going through old videos from mack of his time during steel and at BU and why does no one talk about mack’s perpetual heart eyes when it comes to anyone he’s close with 😭 he’s so adoring whenever he looks at lane and jayden, it’s adorable. he looks at them like they hung the sun and moon and stars. the willmack looks are the most talked about, but he’s always been that much of a sweet heart on his sleeve kind of person. though nothing compares to the way he looks at sidney crosby is or his team canada teammates ofc

no for real!!!! baby mack was so sweet and obvious with his crushes, it was no wonder jayden and lane were famously extra gentle with him (i will share some bu stories eventually when i’m not busy as hell, but it was always a big deal that lane was so indulgent with mack when lane did have a few issues with other players on the team)

i do think it’s because people like to lean into this narrative of mack never liking anyone until will (which is fine by the way! rpf however you want), but the truth is that will is far from the first boy he’s ever loved, and mack has always been a fall hard and fast kind of romantic. you can see that with any team he plays on, but it’s especially clear whenever he goes to play for canada and instantly becomes everyone’s baby (not just this year either. mack was immediately adored and starry-eyed over his teammates at last year’s worlds and his world juniors team too)

the only bc line drama i believe in or care about is all three of will, leno, and gabe having a thing for mack in college and mack paying them zero attention in that way because he was having too much fun at bu and would never fraternize with the enemy and then will winning the lottery when the sharks did and making it his mission in life to befriend mack at dev camp (and being surprised by how much harder he fell after spending more time in mack’s presence now too) and now will drags mack around like a cute little trophy wife whenever they all hang out together because he knows he scored big time and mack has no clue but thinks gabe and leno are super friendly guys even if they sometimes stare at his ass a little too much. also leno is a puppy and he and mack probably send each other corny memes all the time which makes will’s eye twitch but will won’t say anything about it because he is still trying to play it cool (and fooling no one)

mackleno is so fun to me because you just know that they’d get along a lot and have fun yapping and playfighting with each other if they spent any amount of time alone together, and yet will keeps them apart because will likely knows they would be really good friends and he HATES that idea, he is gatekeeping mack, mack is his, and he knows about leno’s interest in mack and that kind of pisses him off

i know you said you have zero thoughts of leno on his own but just watch any of his mic’d up videos on the caps youtube channel and see how puppy-like he is and his crush on mack (to the point where even his coach pointed it out) makes senseeee
