Somewhere, some mailing list out there in the ether has my personal email associated with an engineer who works at the same company as me, because one of our family names is the same as the other’s personal name.

As a result, recruiters weekly reach out to my personal email offering her jobs. I forward these to her, and politely inform the recruiters of their mistake, and ask them where they got my email address from, but they never answer. Much more inconvenient for her than for me. Will this ever end, or will I get her email for the rest of our careers/lives?

Okay, so in the 20th century, the new inventions of radio and television were known as broadcast media – no, wait, that’s not really the start either –

Broadcasting originally refers to throwing, or casting, handfuls of seeds onto prepared ground, typically used with grain crops, which, uh –

Re: Ipod’s name I found this:

At the time of the iPod’s introduction, Apple was thinking of its consumer-grade products as part of a “digital hub.” Freelance copywriter Vinnie Chieco had been hired to work on naming the device and was trying out associations with the word “hub,” according to a number of articles on the topic.

Chieco thought about spaceships as hubs, which then led him to think about the smaller space shuttles in the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, which looked a bit like the original iPod. Once “2001” was in mind, that led to one of the movie’s most famous quotes: “Open the pod bay doors, Hal.”

With the word ‘pod’ from the quote and Apple’s ‘i’ branding, the “iPod” name was born.

the space race may be the funniest point in history period and i'll stand by that. the US is like "yes whoever gets into space first will prove once and for all that our economic model is superior and that we are, in general, the superior country of superior and smarter people." then the soviets just went and did it and the US freaked out and needed to cover their ass so were like "WE MEAN THE MOON, WE MEAN THE FIRST TO LAND ON THE MOON."

Dang it, I just learned that when ‘thou’ was a commonly used word, it rhymed with ‘you.’ Makes perfect sense since they both mean you, just informal vs formal, and they’re even spelled the same but I still don’t like it.

Nintendo has been outdoing themselves over the last decade or so picking realistic arts & crafts - themed visual styles. Here the paper cutout characters from past Paper Mario games are under assault by nefarious folded paper characters. (Even their speech bubbles are folded paper.) The game also shows a glimpse of a paper maché monster, white splashes in blue water surfaces are torn paper edges, etc.

I have no interest in playing this, but it is very creative.

I have killed 3 house centipedes in the last 7 days and I just saw the biggest one yet trundle across the floor in broad light. Fuck. :(

I also already killed 2 different types of spiders and some random little insect today. Fuck I don’t like living here.
