Help urgently needed!!

Thursday, November 5th: Hi everyone, I’m Gemma, a bi, mentally ill disaster, who’s in desperate need of help, as I'm struggling to pay my late bills and debt.

As most of you are already aware, I have been struggling financially for quite some time due to my welfare benefits being revoked, under the UK’s controversial changes to how benefits are assessed and assigned. And due to my mental health and some unfortunate DWP mess-ups, my benefits have been on and off sanctions for the past year.

And earlier in the year, I attended a medical assessment for my U.C benefit, the results stated that I have a limited capability for work due to my chronic depression and extreme fatigue. I've also recently applied for PIP, and I am awaiting the outcome of the application.

Also, as many of you guys know, my dog was attacked last month by another. She is doing incredibly well and has made a fast recovery, however its been really stressful and the expenses have left me in the negative.

I'm completely heartbroken to keep asking for help, but I still desperately need some.

If anyone could spare any amount to help me, even if it’s just £1/$1/€1, it would literally save my life, and sharing definitely helps just as much as donations. Nobody is obligated in any way to donate if they can’t or don’t want to, I know we’re all struggling right now.

Can I be bisexual if I'm sexually and romantically attracted to men but only romantically attracted to women?

The typical meaning of bisexual is two genders/gender identities (three or more is polysexual, if I’m not mistaken, please correct me if I’m wrong, and pansexual is all)

However, there is also the romantic spectrum. So you might be biromantic and Hererosexual or homosexual or whichever sexuality applies to you

i'm not sure if this is exactly a question? more of me looking for validation. i'm a bi dude but until recently i identified as gay bc people seem to push the "het relationships are inherently worse or abusive uwu" narrative a lot (from what i've seen) and it made me feel rlly guilty and ashamed of liking women (which sounds like a "h3t3rophobia is real!!1!" statement, but i promise it's not) so i repressed it a lot - i'm just hoping someone else relates, honestly. Personally I’ve been questioning my sexuality ever since I found out you can like any one regardless of any norms (surprisingly, when I was 13-14, so only a short while ago, a couple of years)

My most favourite thing that I’ve learnt is hat labels suck and you can put grow them within days or weeks, so I heard something that stuck with me “sexuality is fluid” and so if you used to identify as gay but you wanna now identify as bi, go for it! Life is worth living and not stressing about how other people see you or what you’re worried about, most likely they’ll go “okay dude but can you please pass the food”, You do you boo

Hi! I'm a pan trans man, and one of my friends recently came out to me as bi, being also in the closet I came out to him right after. He didn't understand the difference between pansexual and bisexual and I wanted a second opinion to see if I explained it properly, I told him that they're very similar but bisexuality is the attraction to 2 or more genders, and pansexuality is attraction to all genders, would you say I properly defined both terms? If not, please correct me! Thank you so much!!

Yep, that’s right! There IS a huge overlap between those two terms, and different people define them differently. That’s the definition I would use to explain it. The way you explained it is correct, but if you’re looking for a more complex definition, I’ve also seen pansexuality defined as attraction “regardless of gender,” in that gender is completely irrelevant to attraction and that the difference between that and bisexuality is that some bi people still take gender into account when experiencing attraction. 

Congrats on coming out to your friend! it sounds like it went really well, and it’s awesome that you have a friend who you can relate to. He’s lucky to have you to explain some of the more complicated stuff to him, and it seems like you’re a really good friend.

Sometimes people just won’t believe you when you come out to them. Maybe they think bisexuality isn’t real, may be they are just adamant that they still think you’re straight. Here’s a reminder that you don’t need the validation of homophobes to be bisexual, and that it’s something no one can take away from you.

Hey, I'm a bi girl and I'm going through a bit of a rough phase now. I've always seen myself as bisexual, but now I'm noticing... Im attracted to basically any type of boy (manly, feminine, whatever, I don't mind), but I'm oddly specific when it comes to girls. I feel attracted to girls who are like manly, buffy, and overall not girly, as the more femininely ones just don't get my attention. Does that makes me less of a bi girl?

Not at all! That just means you have a type when it comes to girls more so than guys. Plenty of straight people are specific about the people they’re attracted to, and that’s doesn’t make them any less attracted to that gender. It’s not any different for you just because you’re bi. It’s normal to have concerns about things like this, but there’s nothing wrong with you and you’re not any less bi because of it. If you decide that you don’t want to pursue relationships with girls, or end up dating a guy, that doesn’t make you any less bi either. So long as you’re attracted to more than one gender you can call yourself bi.

I’d say probably! I can’t decide your sexuality for you, but if you’re attracted to more than one gender you can be bi! there are other labels for people who like more than one gender as well, but if bi is the one you’re comfortable with then yes, you are bisexual! I’m glad you feel comfortable enough to ask about it, and I’m glad you’re figuring yourself out.

ok hi i need help XD so i told 5 friends that i was bi, and they’ve all outed me to a ton of people. i’m only 12 (yes i know) and it’s just tearing me apart.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. You don't deserve that, and your "friends" don't deserve you. This might be really hard to hear, but if your friends, people you should be able to trust, have outed you, then they aren't good friends at all, and you're probably better off without them. Even if you choose to stick by them, you need to have a serious discussion about respect and boundaries. And hey, you're not too young to come out as bi. Loads of kids know they're straight by the time they're your age, so why shouldn't you know you're bi? I get it though. Being 12 can be really hard, especially when you're trying to figure out your sexuality or come out. If you think that your parents will accept you, this might be something to talk to them about. They might be able to help you deal with the problem with your friends and offer support (but if you don't think they'll accept you, it's best to stay in the closet for now). If you can it'd be a good idea to find an LGBT+ youth support group so you can have the chance to talk about it with other people your own age. It sucks to be outed by people you trust. It's happened to people I know, and it can be hard to move past. But you will move past it, and you're not alone. Try (as hard as it is) to ignore people if they say homophobic things to you, or if it's a real problem and if your school is accepting, talk to a teacher who will be able to help you. It's very likely that there are people in your community who know what you're going through, or will help you even if they don't. If you're safe to do so, reach out to them. Yeah definitely! The definition of bi (that I use, which is pretty universally accepted) is being attracted to two or more genders, and guys and girls, and enbies are more than two! So yes, you can definitely say you're bisexual. Even if you were only attracted to, for example, guys and nonbinary people, you can STILL identify as bisexual because that's two different genders! hi! i’m a 17-year-old, confused girl. i’ve always considered myself straight. i’ve had thoughts here & there that’ve made me question that, but i’ve always brushed those away thinking “everyone has those thoughts from time to time” & generally not thinking much of it. but just this past week i’ve really been thinking about it, reading other ppls stories, being super introspective, and yeah.. i think i’m bi. but is that too fast to “decide?” just a few days of serious questioning/thought?

No, I wouldn’t say so. Essentially though, even though you've only been thinking seriously about being bisexual for a few days, it’s always been part of you. And to be quite frank, most straight people don’t have those thoughts from time to time. Most straight people don’t question their sexuality at all. The fact that you’ve had these thoughts in the past, even though you’ve dismissed them, is a really common experience for LGBT+ people, certainly one I had. 

It’s great that you’ve found all of these resources that have helped you realise your sexuality. For some people, and it seems for you, the actual “real” questioning process can be really short because it’s about identifying the feelings that you’ve been having for a long time, and learning the vocabulary that describes your sexuality and experience. If you think you’re bisexual, then you are. You can identify as whatever you like, regardless of how long you’ve been questioning. If your sexuality/identity changes later on that’s fine too, but if you feel like you’re bisexual, own it!

So I’m kind of questioning rn and I keep seeing stuff like “if you’re questioning then you’re probably not straight” or “if you’re worrying about faking it then you’re not.” How do you know that for sure??

To be honest, it can be really difficult to know, but I’d just take it slow. Acknowledge that yes, it’s very likely that you’re not straight, then try to find out more information about different identities. It may help you find an identity that fits you, and anyway it’s always good to be aware or different LGBT+ identities! Try reading/watching media with non-straight characters and learn about how other people knew they were LGBT+. Ultimately everyone’s experience is different but you’ll probably notice that there a few recurring things. Mostly, I’d tell you not to pressure yourself to label yourself immediately if you don’t want to. Trying on different labels can be really helpful for a lot of people, but there’s no need to rush. 

Another thing is, if you were faking it, you would be purposely saying something that wasn’t true and you’d be aware of it, and that’s not what’s happening! Just educate yourself and it’s very likely that you’ll naturally find out where you fit in. And if not/in the meantime, the Q in LGBTQIA+ stands for queer AND questioning, so you’re still part of the community if you’re not sure.

If you do end up being straight, there’s no shame in that! You can still be an LGBT+ ally.

Basically, don’t force it, and learn some more info in the meantime :)
