can you draw garak pregnant and lactating
If somebody sends me 30 euro so I can buy sonic origins on steam I will do this. But not a moment before
While I did receive sonic origins, there was argument for and against pregnant garak as a concept. So i drew this as compromise. Coexist <3
I was gonna get pedantic about the misuse of the expression "immaculate conception" (not the same as virgin birth! also not in the Bible!) but I was reading through the notes and people were talking about Cardassians as reptiles and someone brought up parthenogenesis in lizards, so my next thought was "oh that's rich, Garak, Cardassians must have virgin births all the time - "
And then I thought wait. Wait. Family structure is hugely important on Cardassia, and there's a particular emphasis on paternal rights. What if his reaction is based on the fact that parthenogenesis is a biologically unremarkable thing but it's hugely taboo. Women going off and starting their own clans outside of the patriarchal statist Civil structure? That strikes at the very foundation of our culture - kill them with hammers! This isn't miraculous it's very very transgressive! This would go hand in hand with the social stigma against bastardry because a single mother is an invitation to the accusation of parthenogenesis. And we know how the Cardassian justice system works. A false accusation is a death sentence.
Anyway I am choosing to interpret this whole thing as stemming from a string Cardassian parthenogenesis taboo, so on top of everything else Garak is flirting with wildly transgressive claims, which flying entirely over Bashir's head.
I personally think it would be extremely funny if The Hunger Games and Mad Max took place in the same universe and America and Australia just dealt with this apocalypse very differently.
#sure. I'll incorporate that into my belief system. (via @gallifreyburning)
Red: Hunger Games approx area
Purple: V for Vandetta
Yellow: Mad Max area
The rest???
I dont know *where* they would be - but I vote the giver and 1984 go somewhere. They feel similar vibe-wise (post apocalyptic society focused on survival and creating/maintaining order but gets disrupted). Could argue for Fahrenheit 451, but I feel that doesn't have quite the same feel?? If that makes sense?
(Also, if this was a 'during the apocalypse' , I'd vote for train to Busan be on the map too. But no one else has zombies (im pretty sure? I've never seen mad max or v for vendetta, so I'm going off of what I've seen other people say about it) And maybe Ragnarok (2013 movie) for Norway? But again, different vibes (amazing movie though))(and I keep feeling like there's one that takes place in Greenland but can't for the life of me *remember* ....)

I was thinking about this famous tweet last night as I was trying to fall asleep
No joke is one-size-fits-all, but adding "but I remain optimistic" at the end of any somewhat-speculating statement makes it funny, taking a different tone in each.
Adding it to the end of something positive gives it an unexpected twist - implying that whatever the good thing that happened was, it wasn't what you expected or hoped to happen, but you're yet to give up hope of whatever the fuck you've now vaguely implied towards might still happen. "He survived and is expected to make a full recovery, but I remain optimistic."
Adding it to a neutral statement implies that you think something can be done about it, funniest if the statement is something that obviously can't be affected. "Apparently it's tuesday tomorrow, but I remain optimistic."
And the bleakest, most hopeless statements just become bleakly funny by the grim absurdity. "About 30 seconds remain until impact, and the chances of any of us surviving the crash are zero. But I remain optimistic."
I scheduled this post 3 months ago with these tags:
But I didn't realize that I'd be visiting Japan when it posted so it is, in fact, NOT Tuesday tomorrow but Wednesday. Optimism paid off!
Hi Paxon, love your blog and all its creatures :) I am a big fan of birds with really smooth colour gradients, like cedar waxwings and dark eyed juncos (got some of those on my patio this year!!!!), do you have photos of any other smooth birds?
Hmmmm, I'm not exactly sure what a smooth gradient is. Is it something like this...?

when in doubt about whether or not to make a thing, do it for your 3 hardcore fans.
nothing is too niche. even if it's 1 person. even if the 1 person is you. just create. make it exist.
annoying as fuck
I think my favorite memes are the ones about insignificant but universally relatable things
i love when you read/watch an influential piece of storytelling and you're like ohhhhhh ok i see. so everyone else was copying this guy's homework
“Living weapon” covers a lot and all of it is hot
Is it just me or has a lot of fandom forgotten what "AU" means? It's short for Alternate Universe. I keep seeing people talking about, like, "fake dating AU" or "only one bed AU." Unless your characters exist in a world where a) beds don't exist or b) beds exist in such abundance there could not POSSIBLY be only one of them, that's not an AU. It's just a regular degular story.
Okay I truly expected this to get like 5 notes, what is happening. Anyway some of these tags are bonkers. "An AU describes anything that doesn't happen in canon" bestie that's what fic is. You're literally describing fanfiction. Is there a huge category of fics that just summarize canon that I'm missing? What on earth is going on.
And for the "what about canon divergence" folks out there:
Fic where the Avengers are starship pilots or cowboys or, idk, cavemen or something <- THIS IS AN AU
Fic where Bucky becomes Captain America in the 1940s instead of Steve <- THIS IS ALSO AN AU, just the canon divergence kind
Fic where Sam and Bucky hook up during or after TFAWS <- not? an AU?? just because they didn't film it???
"What about if it's an AU where the Avengers are all giant slime creatures AND there's only one bed, that's an Only One Bed AU" bro c'mon.
agreed but this is the funniest possible example you could have used
handy dandy rule of thumb: an AU says 'forget what you know, this is the story now'. AUs often completely overwrite the existing canon, remixing it and reimagining it for the new setting -- a high school au of elden ring is completely incompatible with the canon, it's a whole new story, and part of the fun is in seeing how the author has translated the original into this new work.
if your fic says 'remember what you know, just add this' then it's not an AU :)

I love watching big dogs teach little dogs the rules. They always have such big "old timer employee giving the intern orientation" energy. They're so businesslike about it. This is their valued junior colleague, they are showing them the break room and the photocopier trick.

Yep that's grean!
TIL In an epilogue at the end of the original 1931 Dracula film, Dracula breaks the fourth wall and taunts the audience, saying vampires are real and to be afraid. In a 1936 re-release, this was censored by the Hays Code, out of fear it would encourage belief in the occult.
