Echoed Nexus - Characters, #1
From here on out, I will be occasionally posting characters and worldbuilding aspects of my personal project. These will be easily accessible from the link on my sidebar.
This is Lucian Crowley, one of the protagonists of my work-in-progress project, Echoed Nexus.
Despite being born on the once in every 300-year event known as the Dark Star's Omen, he had a happy upbringing with a loving family. However, one night when he was twelve years old, his parents were attacked and murdered by Sirius, and he and his sister were kidnapped. They were used as test subjects by Sirius and his underlings and injected with the genetic material of demons and monsters, to disastrous effect. His sister died a horrific death, and Lucian's arm became demonic and his hair turned white. Other effects of the experiments on Lucian's body are unknown. He escaped from his captors at the age of sixteen, and has both been on the run from them and pursuing them.
Ever since his family was murdered, he has wandered the world in search of their murderer. He is an adept scythe-user and is feared across the world for his physical strength. He has a strong distaste of violent criminals and, before he met Zephyr, was often hired to protect townspeople from attack during the night. Despite his needing to kill to survive, he abhors the sight and stench of blood.
Lucian is a stoic man and has a lot of difficulty expressing his emotions. He hates getting close to others out of a fear of hurting them, but is kind and gentle towards those he's opened his heart to. However, this kindness doesn't extend to himself; he is very unforgiving of himself when he makes mistakes and has very low self-esteem and self-worth. He drops his cool personality, however, when talking to people about metalworking or when people give him sweets, especially chocolate.
Lucian is a very powerful and well-rounded fighter, and is perfectly capable of fighting with and without a weapon. Since he was trained for combat and assassination, he is able to use a wide variety of weapons. He prefers scythes.
His main ability is shadow manipulation. He primarily uses this ability to hide himself in the shadows of his opponents in order to strike without them knowing, but he can also apply it defensively as well. He can protect his allies by hiding them with his cape (which itself is made of shadows) and can also create shadow clones of himself to act as decoys.
Lucian's other ability is superhuman physical strength. Even without a weapon, Lucian is physically incredibly strong. He is strong enough that he exerts little energy in throwing objects over 6 times his weight, and because of this strength he is no slouch when it comes to hand-to-hand combat. It is unknown if he has similar aptitude with the magical arts, but given his demonic blood, it is likely.
