So I'm involved in a project that Julia Scheele (http://juliascheele.tumblr.com/) is putting together. She's producing a crowd funded anothology around the feminist punkrock movement entitled "Double Dare Ya". To go with the zine Steve Walsh is putting together a trade card set of the 57 people named checked in Le Tigres song Hot topic and I'm illustrating one of those people - James Baldwin.
Heres the indiegogo page https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/double-dare-ya-a-riot-grrrl-inspired-super-zine if you want to buy the zine.
Will post more when the project drops but here's a little preparatory stuff in the meanwhile.
First off the cover to the TO ARMS book done by the supremely talented Tim Hassan http://timhassanart.tumblr.com/ this was a big factor in convincing so many talented people to get involved in the project.
My contribution to the book centred around two things - the Cenotaph war memorial and the architect who designed it Edward Lutyens.
The roughs next to the finished artwork and some of the panels I was most happy with.
The cenotaph is essentially an empty tomb symbolic of the unnamed soldier. Lutyens who was a national figure at the end of the first world war was chosen to design the memorial that would go at the heart of the allied victory parade of 1918. Initially it was a temporary structure but became so focal in the outpouring of a nation's grief that it was decided it should be made permanent. The cenotaph that we now see in Londons whitehall was unveilied in 1920.
