NICO: i saw a stray kitten on the street and now i want it
NICO: talk me out of this
I feel like I bought too much food for a night of indoor camping with two girls, considering the other girl is a five year old. This only means that this won’t be the last time we’ll have an indoor camping. I’m so excited, I even have my special jammies ironed.
I volunteer as tribute to take any extra food (aka candy) you may still have. I’m too lazy to go buy my own Reese’s peanut butter cups. Those things are like crack, man. Just fuck me up. How was the indoor camping session?
One night of freedom wasn’t enough.
Maybe you can have another excuse for freedom soon? What’d you get up to on said night of freedom then?
So I guess I disappeared off the face of the Earth for a week. Whoops? Where did I go? Who knows, certainly not me. I just drove for a while and stayed in a random town because I felt like getting away from the same shit, different day routine I seemed to get into since moving here. Go figure. Did I miss anything or are things are boring as ever?
Hey, at least you didn’t like disappear like some weird Lifetime movie and didn’t come back. My mom makes me watch those shitty movies with her whenever I go to visit and that sounds like the premise for at least 75% of the movies they have on there. Things are always as boring here as ever.
Oh my goodness, my little Kindergarteners are already talking politics? I had kids arguing over the election.
Don’t tell me the little ones want to vote for Trump. Bribe them with cookies if you have to in order to get the politic talk to stop.
I know classes haven’t been back that long, but I’m already getting static from some of my students over assigning some chapter reading. Come on guys, it’s not like I’m asking you to start working on major assignments yet… it’s fifteen pages. I bet if it was on their social media feeds they’d have it read in ten minutes.
Don’t make me the bitter old guy wishing for the good ol’ days.
Sorry, dude, but I’m pretty sure they probably already think of you as the bitter old guy. That’s how it goes with most teenagers. What are you even asking them to read? I have to admit, I was one of those kids who hated the reading. I was way more into music than academics.
Good thing pumpkin spice is available at everywhere now, because I’m going to be loading up on caffeine in the morning for this exam. Please wish me luck that staying up to study will pay off. I don’t want to be a zombie for no reason.
Good luck! School is pretty shitty, man. I remember feeling like a zombie all the time because of it. Shout out to my twin though for making sure I didn’t die of alcohol poisoning and filling me with a shit ton of caffeine constantly. What are you majoring in?

“I mean hopefully I’m still growing because I hate being this short.” She let out an uncomfortable laugh at her father’s remark, “Oh c’mon Dad, she probably thought that you were fine out here because you pretend like you know what you’re doing on the grill when in actuality, we all know that I’m the only one who knows their way around it.” Things may be rocky with Nico, but if there was one thing Nikki always would do it would be have his back, regardless of what was going on with them.
She did the best that she could to steer the conversation away from her brother and ringing up any random topic off the top of her mind that she could until their food was done. Her father helped her carry the trays inside while he continued to ramble on and Nikki was content to just listen.
Nico glanced up at the two when they entered the household and downcast his eyes back to the cutting board where he was finishing cutting up the vegetables for the burgers. “Nicholas, how’s work?” Their father offered, using his free hand to clap the male on the shoulder. The 6′4″ tall brunet tried not to hunch in on himself like he felt the urge to do and simply shrugged in response. “It’s work. It’s not bad though.” He stated. “We should get you a job at the office. There’s plenty of nice gir--people we can set you up on a date with.” He claimed, rolling his eyes a bit when their mother glared at him.
“No, thanks.” Nico said quietly, keeping his brown eyes intently on the vegetables as the other man held his hands up in defense, going out to the garage once he set down the trays to go get some beers. “Sorry, darling, he’s trying, he really is.” Their mother offered Nico, getting a sigh from him as he sheepishly looked up at Nikki. He hated how she had to endure seeing that, being quite embarrassed at the altercation.

Nikki was debating on whether or not she should even go to the dinner they had tonight. It would be a cowardly move though, but the thought of facing her brother after the silent treatment meant she could be cowardly every once in a while, right? Wrong. And the small, petty part of her didn’t want Nico to know how much it affected her, it was his fault they weren’t talking anyways because he was the one who wasn’t in the mood to talk.
With the wrong mindset, she made her way over to their old place, a container full of cookies in hand and if they were Nico’s favorites, then it was merely coincidence. “Mom? Dad?” Nikki called out as she made her way to the kitchen, pausing at the sight of her twin. She set down the container, trying to avoid looking at Nico directly, “I hope I’m not too late?”
“Nonsense”, her mother replied, thankfully oblivious to the tension in the kitchen, “Nico was just helping me and your dad is outsi-” Nikki was quick to interrupt, “I’ll go outside then and make sure he grills properly.” With that, she turned on her feet and headed towards the backyard, greeting her father from the doorway.
Nico couldn’t help up look up from where he was chopping some vegetables when he heard the front door open up and Nikki’s voice call out into the house. He even relaxed slightly, knowing that despite they weren’t talking, it would be easier to endure this family dinner with his twin there alongside him. He looked back down at the cutting board and continued to chop vegetables when his sister entered the kitchen, letting out a quiet sigh of relief when she went outside to help their father.
Their father looked up when Nikki entered the backyard and greeted him, smiling at her fondly. “Hey there, kid. I swear, you grow up more and more each time I see you. Stop going so long without seeing us.” He teased, pulling Nikki into a side hug. “Is..is Nicholas here?” He asked in an attempt at causality, but it was obvious he was uncomfortable as he looked up to look through the backdoor to see Nico moving around the kitchen with their mom. “He should be out here helping me instead of in the kitchen, Jesus. Your mother enables him too much.” He ranted with a roll of his eyes.

To say that things between Nico and Nikki were awkward would be an understatement. They hadn’t gone this long without talking on a daily basis in a long time, but tonight they had a dinner at their old childhood family home with their parents like they did usually ever two weeks or so. Nico wasn’t sure how the dinner was going to go or how long it’d take their parents to tell that they were in a bit of a spat at the moment.
Nico arrived first at the home, entering the house with some drinks and chips to bring for dinner. “I’m here!” He called out, greeting the family dog with a pat on the head before heading into the kitchen where his mom was currently bustling around. “Oh, hello darling!” She cooed, pressing a kiss to his cheek and took the items out of his arms. “Your father is outside working on the grill and Nikki is on her way. Why don’t you go..” She paused, seeing the strained look on his face at the idea of going to help his father. “Help me?” She quickly supplied instead and Nico nodded, going ahead and washing his hands to help his mother instead in the kitchen.
