Hi I’m Marissa and I’m learning French, Thai, Latin, and Hungarian!
I’m Nicole and I’m learning French!
August 15 - New week, new spread! Here’s a little detail from this week :)
12.23.16 // hello friends!! sorry i’ve been absent a while. since i started a new journal i thought it fitting to end the year with pictures of my last one. thank you all for making the year what it was.
My midterms are kinda sorta coming up, so I took out all of my notecards to get a sense of what I should be focusing on. I didn’t realize that in one semester my classes had already covered that much material…I’m super motivated though!
Also it’s like 3 hours from being 2016…Happy Almost New Year!! 🎉🎉
One of the mistakes I made when starting to learn a new language was only using Duolingo for vocab; using Duolingo itself is obviously a good way to learn and review words, especially in context, but you shouldn’t only use that website as it has strange way of prioritizing which words you learn. (Sure, knowing the word for dishwasher can be useful; but you probably shouldn’t learn it sooner than the words “to know, to do, to try” etc.)
That’s why I really love @funwithlanguages 300 words list which details the most important words to know in a language.
I made the list into a printable in which you can fill in the words of your target language(s), because honestly I just like filling in things and seeing how far I have come in a certain language, and especially when you are learning several languages at once this gives you a nice overview of the most important words 📃
Here is the Dropbox link
I hope this helps you with learning/starting a new language!

J’espère que 2017 sera meilleur que 2016 !
Merci <3
Lately I’ve been doing this method of reading to help improve my vocabulary and reading skills and I’ve enjoyed it and I think it can help a few people out.
I’ve been going on Wikipedia in my target language (French) and I’ve been printing out the first page of the article, the first page gives you the overview about the subject without going into excruciating detail. I recommend looking at articles about something you enjoy because it’ll make reading more fun and you’ll learn new words about the specific topic you’re interested in. I also recommend looking at articles about famous places and people in the area where your target language is spoken because then you’ll learn a bit of culture as well as improve your reading skills.
Once I’ve found the article and printed it out, I go through and mark any words I don’t know and then I look them up on Linguee and I write them in. After I’ve marked all the words I don’t know, I use these Printables from @wonderful-language-sounds and I use one color per part of speech.
I hope this helps someone out and definitely give those vocab printables a try even if it’s not with this method.
I actually hadn’t seen this one yet, made me laugh!
This is my hoard of journals. It’s probably safe to say I’m obsessed…
Boi where did you get these from they are beautiful 😱
