To my dear tumblr followers and all request lovers out there.
Iâm not a very âvocalâ artist on Tumblr, I do like to share whatever I do here with you all and I am thankful you all follow me, for your likes and your reblogs. <3
So Iâm usually asked by random people on my stream or through the chat here on tumblr, if I do requests. Most donât even say much nor I know them, and in a way I find it a bit rude and it saddens me.
Hereâs why:
I like to draw and love when people love what I do, cherish what I gave them, and usually I work hard to make them happy with it whatever it is. And even if itâs hard to accomplish I try harder to create what they asked me.Â
I value my regular watchers, reblogers, followers, and yes it wouldnât hurt if from time to time I give them some kind of free love with what I can offer them, and that is drawings.Â
For most of you itâs an easy task to grab a pen and make drawingsâŚNot so fast. You are seriously wrong if you think this way. Speaking about my own case,I do have some health issues that make it painful to draw, but I donât usually complain much about it unless Iâm in serious pain, and if I do so itâs on my stream with my regulars there. No one has to know what or how I feel, nor I like share personal stuff, but this time I had too.Â
I donât get as many comms as I wish in a way I could help myself, cause well itâs not easy to get a job here that could help me be stable without getting insane or break my body even more and quit after a week of hard work. Yes I do have to deal with pain every single day, some days are better then others, and again you all have nothing to do with this, I choose to try and draw as a way of living to save my body from even more stress, I donât know for how long I can keep on with it, but I will keep on trying until I have no other option but to find a miserable job, where most certainly i canât even have a bit of paper to doodle, cause that job will most certainly be a badly paid callcenter.
In a way I wouldnât mind giving away drawings to please my followers. But all the time I invest on is on the commissions I have to do and on my experiments drawings that are my practice to develop my skills.Â
Plus there were times when I did freebies more often as warm ups when I started my streams, and it really got me sad when I posted them and the person who I made it for didnât even liked it nor shared etc. So it brings us to the next point.
When you like on tumblr you are showing me you like what I do , but it doesnât help much showing to other ppl what I do, and in a way help me to find more ppl who could actually help me by commission me.Â
For me things work this way: Itâs a 2 way highway, to receive something you need to give something back, and when you randomly ask for freebies/requests to someone you donât know, cause you just like what they do you are being rude and selfish. Now giving something back is not only to pay for it , tip the artist, etc. There are always ways to help an artist and the biggest one is to show what they do to new ppl, like the simple gesture on tumblr that is to reblog something.
Iâll also ask you, do you like to work for free? For most of us drawing is a serious thing, like any other job, I know some artists who their lives depend on it, itâs their job! Would you like to work for 8 hours without getting anything in return? Unfortunately I had that, wasting my time, my effort to please the requester and what did I had in return, a mother fukin back pain that I wish no one should feel.
 Some requesters donât value the fact someone gave them a drawing, are picky and even bash about it, funny enough ppl who pay much more are much more kind comprehensive and friendly. Not all requesters are the same I know, but letâs be realistic, we kind of get tired of rude peopleâŚ
I also had requesters that became followers, commissioners, and some, dear friends. And they give me something everyday it can be only their company, their joy to see me draw, their stupid convos that have no sense but cheer me and the chat up (on my streams), but they are there almost everyday with me, so I give something back to thank them, it can be a freeb, it can be more then they asked for in a comm, a better comm then they asked, a surprise art of their ocs, whatever I feel like to offer them that day.
Donât go whining itâs all about money, cause itâs not.
So basically, no I donât do requests.Â
IF YOU LIKE AN ARTIST WORK, before you think about what you want from he/she, see if they have rules, see if they do requests, most have this info on profiles, streams, etc. If you get a freeb or request something be thankful to the person cause they wasted their time to give you something. And for fuk sake, donât complain about it you didnât fukin pay for it!
