why bother playing fair when all they hand you are terrible cards?

i'm also finding digital easier in some aspects because i can just press a button on my tablet to undo something instead of beating my sketchbook to death with my eraser

#warrior cats #nightheart #doodle #as ASC is one of the more recent arcs i do have a few things to say about him and Sunbeam #out of all of the protags with wasted potential syndrome i'd say that he and sunbeam are by far the worst offenders #and it has everything to do with their relationship with each other #i liked NightSun a lot more when it wasn't forced. prior to the whole clan swapping thing they had some pretty good chemistry in my opinion #sadly both of their lives started revolving around thinking about the other all the time and they quickly stop becoming compelling to read #this isn't to say that i dislike the characters. i don't. my gripe is how damn much the idea of “these two are a pair!” is pushed #sure it's cute and funny sometimes but it gets to a point where their relationships with everyone else get put on the backburner. it SUCKS #how come i don't know anything about their siblings? why didn't we get any more content about their relationships with their mothers?#why can't we get a focus on Nightheart's political opinions? or properly highlight how much Lightleap's beahviour bothers Sunbeam?#you really can't have one without the other and i don't think that's a good thing. it's like they cancel each other out #thankfully Sunbeam gets her time to shine on her own in CS but we shouldn't have to do that in an arc where she isn't the protagonist #especially when you consider that Sunbeam was the one to switch Clans in the end to live with him since the Erins are biased towards him #anyway my rant about their relationship's effect on the writing aside this drawing is of Nightheart specifically so i might as well say tha #the whole “not being like Firestar” plotline sucks because it's literally never relevant past book 3 #ASC is an arc about POLITICAL CONFLICTS! Flamepaw could have been set up as a character whose beliefs differ from that of the mother #he isn't close to! he's someone who's unafraid to speak out about what he thinks is fair (even if he is a little selfish)!#especially when you contrast with Sunbeam whom he gets along with well who's basically the total opposite! that could have been interesting #why couldn't that be the basis for his storyline?#sigh. but that's warrior cats for you i suppose. missed opportunity central for the past twenty years
