there seems such a cruel irony in how 13 reasons why is a netflix series - 13 episodes, released all at once, for us to work our way through in the same way as the 13 could. did you binge watch all in one night, like alex? or did you have to watch it in bits and pieces because it was all too horrific, like clay? is it doing things to your head too? is everyone talking about it at school? is everyone talking about hannah baker again?

My honest thoughts on 13 Reasons Why

It's been a while since i've been on here. It's been a while since i've reblogged, shared gifs or inspirational quotes on here. But i've just finished the new TV show which is on Netflix, 13 Reasons Why and i have a few things i want to talk about, and here seems like the perfect place. I read the book when i was 16, I'm now 21 and this books has followed my thoughts for 5 years. I've only read it the once, because even though i thought it was beautifully written and the story needed to be shared, it seemed like reading it once was enough. Enough to make a difference. But as time went on i forgot those little details which make the story incredible. But you never forget the description, you never forget Hannah Baker and what she stands for. The subjects which are discussed during her 13 reasons are touchy, which is why seeing them all in one TV show is (i want to say crazy but) daring. But it needed to be done. Hannah Baker was a 17 year old girl who witnessed sexual assault, who was called a slut because of things people said which never happened (rumours are never usually true), she was touched and grabbed without consent, she was objectified, used and raped. When she asked for help, that person didn't listen. Is that worst of all the reasons? Reason 13? The reason being that one person who's job it was to listen and help her. Ignored her and told her to 'move on' Each one of us has felt so alone at one time or another, and if you haven't you're lying (but that's okay, you have the right) Things that she had to hide and lie about are awful things. Which shouldn't happen to anyone. And the people who don't understand that, need to read the book or watch the show and realise that one sentence, one touch or one action can ruin someone's life. That's all i have to say right now.
