It took me a little while to set this post up here on tumblr. Things have been insane and I have less than 2 weeks to move everything out of my house and could really use the extra financial support.
Please boost this if you can!
My kofi blog post has an update about the situation but my commissions are kind of on hold now due to the move.
I hope every single person who puts nice comments in tags under reblogged art knows that you you guys are the backbone of society. Being an artist online sucks these days, but here on tumblr I still get compliments under artworks that I made years ago. I hope you know every WOW and heart emoji and heartfelt compliment and funny comment you left in the tags is part of the reason I kept drawing all these years, in spite of everything that was going on.
I've been screenshotting the nice tags I get for years, and at this point it would be literal thousands of lines if I still had my old files. I love u tumblr users <333333333
This godawful recent update made me think about this post again. I still screenshot and collect all the kind comments and tags I get under my art posts on here. Some of these I got recently under art that is YEARS old. This literally doesn't happen on any other social media. The way tumblr note system works (worked) is THE reason me and my friends are on here instead on twitter or whatever else tumblr seems to desperately want to become.
Why would you fuck up THE thing that differentiates you from others? That makes your platform fun to use?
thank you for always being weird, I know it sounds silly but with how the internet has changed in the past 6 years I'm so glad I've always seen you not let people shake you about the art and jokes you aspire to share with the world, weird as they may be. the fandubs being utterly nonsensical with a lovable diverse cast, your streams of classic games being played the way you want them to be played with childlike whimsy, your tumblr space being little friendly. as an autistic agender nerd, you make a lot of us feel more comfortable with not being as "normal" just by being you, never change (unless it is to become even weirder and therefore more powerful)
theres no other way to be! ive tried everything else and it sucks shit! i appreciate the kind words.
BEGGING us to read nonfiction every now and then. Like. Words on page. It doesn't have to be the only thing you do, but you gotta keep in practice with it. No easier people to subjugate than those who question nothing they're told.
since this is going around again i want to clarify that this post is about cancel culture. more specifically the type of cancel culture that results in long callout posts and mass harassment and doxxing of random internet users that up until an hour ago believed you were their friend. nobody is perfect all the time. nobody is secretly evil and just waiting to show their true colors. you look at someone who has had a rough day and said something slightly misguided out of frustration and instead of reaching out it’s abandon ship immediately and anyone who doesn’t is going on a blocklist. what the hell are we doing here.
there are people in the notes asking “ok yes but how do i stop it” good news! it’s actually easier to stop than it is to perpetrate. the method is called “talk to your friends if they say something that surprises you” and “don’t participate in mass cyberbullying”. we are creating a subculture that cares more about appearing righteous than they care about learning and growing as people
hey so don't use this. RabbelLabs, the company actually creating this platform, trains AI models. Jack Dorsey is best friends with Elon Musk and they both advocate constantly for the abolition of IP law because it stands in the way of AI 'growth' (theft). They're banning AI on the platform so they can use it as a clean slate to train more fucking AI. They're also using images of Divine, the drag queen, to push their shit and I guarantee they didn't get permission from her estate.
The DiVine website says that it's made by Rabble.
If you go to their website you can find this:
if you click that And Other Stuff you're taken to an entirely different website that explains what all that 'other stuff' is: five pillars of building Nostr AI.
You have to wonder why they're hiding it, right? Why is it so hard to find? Why register an entirely different domain (it's andotherstuff.com, not like rabblelabs.com/andotherstuff) just to talk about the AI stuff you're doing if you're so proud of it?
Stop simping for billionaires just because they jingle keys in your face, start doing some fucking research.
“Cassandra woke up to the rays of the sun streaming through the slats on her blinds, cascading over her naked chest. She stretched, her breasts lifting with her arms as she greeted the sun. She rolled out of bed and put on a shirt, her nipples prominently showing through the thin fabric. She breasted boobily to the stairs, and titted downwards.”
hinata: (cough) Oh, Miss, you were there. I’m fine, I haven’t got a cold or anything. I was just trying out smoking.
saki: Huh? Oh, cigarettes?
hinata: Yep! I just turned 20 so I figured I’d try it. Cause smoking is something that adults do, right? Mizuki smokes too, so I was curious.
saki: I see, well now that you’ve tried it, what did you think?
hinata: …The smoke stinks, plus it kinda hurt my lungs and didn’t taste good at all. How come when people smoke they make it look like the cigarette tastes real good? I don’t get it at all. I’ve heard that you can easily get addicted to cigarettes, so is that the only reason people do it? If I had the urge to put something in my mouth I’d rather something sweet that actually tastes good like candy.
saki: Fufu, it sounds like smoking isn’t for you, Hinata-san.
hinata: It really isn’t. Smoking has such a cool and mature vibe though, and I’m finally old enough to do it… Oh well, I guess I’ll try something else.
saki: You mean something else that you can try now that you’re 20?
hinata: Yep! Being 20 means that you can legally smoke and drink alcohol, right? Is there anything else?
saki: Hmm… Ah, you could also bet on horse racing and keirin.
hinata: Mm, I think I’ll pass on that, losing my money would suck! It’s strange, I thought that once I got older something major would change about me. Nowadays you’re officially considered an adult at 18, but it used to be different right?
saki: Yeah, it used to be 20.
hinata: So there’s a slight difference between adult age and smoking age huh… Man, it doesn’t feel very special anymore. Sigh, maybe it’s because despite having turned 20 I haven’t actually changed that much…
saki: Hm, I’m sure it’ll feel special again if you’re able to try something else that’s new to you. It’s a big milestone in your life, so is there anything else that you’d like to try?
hinata: Milestone… You're right! Thanks. There is actually one more thing that I wanted to try. Something that’s a staple for when you turn 20. Do you want to join me for it, Miss?

Chapter 2 -starless break room-
hinata: Miss, look at this, look at this!
-cg
hinata: Tadaa~ It’s Japanese sake.
saki: Woah, so this is what you wanted to try then?
hinata: Yep. I bought it specially for today and even got it gift wrapped. See? It says ‘Happy 20th Birthday Hinata’ on it.
saki: Fufu, what a special gift indeed.
hinata: Yeah, I’m super stoked about it! I bought us both these as well, what are they called again, sake cups? Once I drink some of this I feel like I’ll be even cooler. Alright, I’ll pour some out… Woah, crap! I spilled it. Ok, let me try a small sip.
-he sips the sake-
hinata: …….. (disgusted face)
saki: What do you think…?
hinata: It tastes like alcohol. I guess you’re not supposed to sip it though. This time I’ll drink it properly. Here goes nothing!
-he drinks the sake-
hinata: …….. (disgusted face)
saki: W-what do you think…?
hinata: I don’t know.
saki: It looks like it didn’t suit your tastes.
hinata: Yeah but, what am I supposed to do now? There’s no way I can drink the rest of the bottle like this. Maybe it’ll taste better if I mix it with some juice? No, but then that would be childish… Man, what am I supposed to do to seem more mature?
saki: What’s your image of a mature person?
hinata: Um well, someone who’s always dressed smartly, is tolerant of other people and always calm and composed. Something like that. That’s what it said on the internet at least. Except it doesn’t seem like I can be like that at all. Smoking and drinking alcohol aren’t as fun as I thought they’d be. I’m 20 and yet I can’t act like an adult at all…
saki: There’s no need to rush things. You already have plenty of your own strengths already.
hinata: My own strengths huh… Thanks, hearing that makes me feel a little better. I suppose it’s ok to just stay the way I am for now. But I still want to become more mature some day, cause I want to make you fall even harder for me, Saki-san. So feel free to love me even more once I have that mature appeal about me.

For those who don't know, YouTube will be adding AI age verification for US-based users starting August 13th. This will attempt to use "the types of videos a user is searching for, the categories of videos they have watched, or the longevity of the account," to determine their age, regardless of what birthdate they have entered. If an adult is incorrectly determined to be a child, they will need to give YouTube a government-issued ID or a credit card to verify their age. As with many such things, YouTube claims it is for the children's safety. Obviously, I am all for protecting children, and I don't want them to be exposed to things they shouldn't see, but this is most likely more about data collection. Even if it was about children's safety, this was the logic used for creating YouTube Kids, and we can all see how "safe" that is.
If you don't want to directly send your driver's license to Google, you'll need to deal with "age appropriate product experiences and protections," such as "digital wellbeing tools" and disabling personalized ads. The second part is because in the US, it is illegal to collect certain information about people under the age of 13. Now, the people at Google (which owns YouTube) love collecting information about their users, but they don't want to get in trouble, and they believe AI moderation is the answer. Not only can the AI work around the clock, but if anything goes wrong, they can say it was the machine that made the mistake, not them. And, as with any moderation, there will be mistakes (again, look at YouTube Kids).
Because of this, creators and viewers alike are planning to stop using the site starting on August 13th. I personally doubt YouTube will care much, at least at first, but if they lose enough ad revenue, they might reconsider their decision. YouTube says they'll be rolling this out to a small test group first, so it might not affect you right away, but if nothing is done, it will soon. If you're an American who uses YouTube regularly, I encourage you to join, whether just for a day, or as long as it takes. And if you have kids, please teach them internet safety and monitor their internet access so that companies can't make this garbage excuse anymore.
If you have the YouTube viewing habits of a teenager — watch out.
