While a healthy measure of foolhardiness drove our ancestors toward discovery, fear kept them alive. If bravery is the wind that makes us soar like kites, fear is the string that keeps us from going too far. We need it, but the thing is, our heritage taught us to fear some of the wrong things.
For example, to our ancient ancestors, strange and new people often meant new diseases and the occasional spear tossed at our softer bits. Today, the only things new people are likely to toss our way are some interesting curse words we can use to impress our friends.
My Darling,
Rejoice! I have, through a happy accident, begun my return trek from my voyage and anticipate your warm welcome and embrace above all else. This accident of which I speak occurred thus:
As I was turned about and looking through the cold fog and waxing light of dawn, I had more than a little difficulty attempting to read the sign post that directs travelers to the nearest towns and inns. As I approached for a better view, I attempted to touch the sign and a camouflaged pokemon sprung from the post! I did manage to capture it before it could flee, and I now return with a Kecleon as a prize for you and a souvenir of my travels!
In all of the excitement, and reeling from my good fortune in finding this new specimen, I must admit to setting off down the path without first regaining my bearings. And thus it was that I found myself heading in the direction of home.
I find it bittersweet to be returning without more exotic species, though I did gather a veritable cornucopia of fruits, poffins and rare candies for them, which should prove most useful for future endeavors of this kind.
Put the kettle on, for I return to you with my spoils in all haste!
My Most Precious Love,
My lone expedition continues on! Though I have yet to encounter a rarified specimen (much less one of reported legend) I remain hopeful as these lands grow thick with pokémon the further I get from civilization. I have discovered in my travels that there are entire sites known as gyms where one can leave previously captured specimens to improve their battle prowess by battling those of others. As an incentive, those able to defend said gym for a substantial amount of time are rewarded with currency! So it was that I found the means of funding my expenses for more and varied equipment.
In regards to my personal state; I grow cold from this winter and begin to feel it in my bones. Whilst your sweet letters occupy nearly all my wandering thoughts, and though they kindle a fire in my heart, they do little to ward me from the elements.
True also are your words of warning of indigenous wildlife! In addition to having my Rhyperior join me as escort, I have taken measures to protect myself so as not to repeat my mad scramble to escape the wild boars that nearly overtook me this very season and just weeks ago. I have acquired a staff suitable for walking and self defense that I fashioned from a fallen branch. I shall take all available precautions to ensure my safe return to you, my love!
My Dearest,
I have begun my expedition to obtain wild and rare pokemon in parts unknown. I thank you most sincerely for the letter you penned to accompany me on my adventures. I anticipate it shall be my only companion for my travels as this entire expedition seems ill fated. I arrived to find that my caravan was to be only myself! What’s more, some highwaymen left me notice that they intend to take possession of my only means of safe transport! (see attached image of the audacious, though unorthodox, notice the ruffians left upon my carriage). I have decided to venture out on foot so as to rob them of the satisfaction, though I did move my carriage to a less conspicuous location. Let the scoundrels try and find it now, ha!
“Then now, this moment, to be given back both you and my life’s purpose… I opened my eyes to you and thought my heart would stop, that madness had finally claimed me. Then you spoke my name. Changed, you say? More than you can imagine.”
“The fire place logs burned down to dark red embers. The candles had long since guttered out. It seemed we were in a place we had entered as strangers and discovered to be home. I think I would have given away all the rest of the world just to remain in the drowsy nest of tousled blankets and feather quilts, breathing her warm stillness.”
“To call her ‘my dear’ made me feel a man as no words ever had before”
““The moment I saw her, a part of me walked out of my body and wrapped itself around her. And there it still remains.” - Arundhati Roy, The Ministry of Utmost Happiness”
