hi i know I haven't visited this blog in a while (since 2024 wow) but i am in fact breathing if anyone cares
i have uhhh. been going thru it. and also discovering a lot of things about myself? like how I actually have adhd and thats why I get intensely obsessed with hobbies like the sims for months and years at a time before burning out of it and repeating the same cycle with the next shiny new thing. crazy.
imma be honest I don't even know If i know how to convert things for ts3 anymore. that's how long it's been. on a good note, i've transfered my cc making hobby from 3d to irl, and now I find sewing clothing super epic and fun. turns out experience with blender does make it easier to sew patterns irl.
anyways thanks to extreme burnout and mental health issues (literally just from working an easy entry level job like omfggggg you people can't do anythingggg) i am unemployed yet again and this blog is like the toxic ex I keep coming back to.
i didn't even realize it before but working full time took up so much of my energy that I didn't even have passions anymore. I couldn't watch movies, play video games, read books or get invested in anything. after all, what was the point if I only had time to really engage with those things on weekends? idk. multiple other factors have also made me come to the conclusion that I can't function like other people do. Basically over this past year I had to chose between either not being on this earth anymore or total poverty and miss poverty won the title by a landslide. yay her i guess?

anyways, dunno why i'm saying all this. my point is a lot has happened and i am genuinely a different person compared to when I started this account.
content wise idk what's happening. I was planning to get back into ts3 when I could finally build a pc that would run better, but obviously that whole idea has to be put on hold cause of the whole jobless thing.
I can't commit to a thing in any regard so i don't want to put a plan out there. I'm also scared that if I get back into this hobby I might lose passion for my other ones again and completely neglect my irl goals and relationships. if you have this awful condition you know how easy it is to slip into that.
but i will say that I have not played ts3 in a while so i don't really have interest in making anything for it in the near future. let's also ignore the fact that i'm pretty sure i forgot how to convert and might have to watch my own damn tutorial just to remember. I'll obviously keep everything up and try to preserve it for internet's sake. I hate it when cc creators' stuff just dissapears forever.
the quality of my stuff and my previews is also geniune ahhh and i'm not proud of it. I wasn't medicated so I cut a bunch of corners, wasn't creatively inspired at all, and made careless mistakes for the sake of getting things done. there was also a bunch of stuff I wasn't aware of, like the proper brightness of diffuse maps and proper .dds settings. but honestly i'm going to cut myself some slack for that considering that I basically had to discover how to do all this on my own. I had no experience with blender at the time and only had super outdated tutorials to reference. and again, i was also doing all of that unmedicated. i wish to have that audacity again.
and also big thank you to everyone who has supported me and encouraged me thus far!
sooooo what's next?
tbh I'm basically a ts3 larper now since I only really play ts4. and when i say "play" what i really mean is play dress up and use it to vizualize my maladaptive daydreams. but I think that's exactly where I want to continue to go with it. So I do plan to be active here, but just in a different way :) more as a general blog with sims stuff rather than purely just ts3 cc.
i've really gained a passion for fashion and aesthetics recently and ts4 is the better game for me to bring that to life. I also hope it will be useful for making blender renders of creative concepts i'm planning, and potentially for designing clothing that I plan to sew irl. now that i'm typing it tho this all seems very grandiose. basically I use sim 4 to b silly and fun. ok? ok.
i think that's all for now. i have a lot to catch up on. i will try to always be available for questions n stuff, so don't hesitate to reach out!

Hey, I just wanted to give a heads up that users should NOT untick Generate Mipmaps for textures- which you instruct to do in your TS4 to TS3 video :( This is a very important bit of data for textures, there's a negative performance impact without it. And the quality settings are on Fastest instead of Highest, which will leave severe compression artifacts. A lovely tutorial, but I did find it due to aiding someone who had faulty textures from that advice :( Sincerely, another tutorial writer <3
ahhh thank u for bringing this to my attention! Another ts3 clothing tutorial said to untick mipmaps so I've just been doing it since then without thinking about it. Hopefully doing this will help with texture quality too. I've updated my written tutorial with this info thank you!

rn have 2 questions (thank u and sorry if they’re dumb)
1: when resizing the uv map of the cloth to fit the uv template ( I am converting a top so I know I put them inside the red part as long as it doesn’t touch the baked area), the original ts4 texture is like, really big, 4096 kinda big, when I scale it down, is there anyway I can do this without messing up the texture quality? Right now the obj and the textures works and is aligned but the texture is kinda blurry and because I have to make it fit to the red area it also looses a lot of the details, what can I do? Can I scale the uv larger?
2: ok, have so far struggled to the final step, the neck(?) part of the mesh on the sims body is not aligned with the head and it’s really weird, there’s this odd collapsing on the sides right under the armpit, would this be a problem because I should have used a different reference mesh? It’s a very baggy top, was it my reference mesh causing this or did I do something wrong😭 it looks fine before I assigned the bone and mesh (I used a nude reference mesh btw should I try a baggy one?)

hiiii i'm so happy it helped!! as for your questions:
I noticed a bunch of people have been wondering about the same issue. Sims 3 natively has it's textures at 1024 x 1024, which can look blurry when comparing it to a texture that's like 3x the size. While it will look blurry in photoshop, i do notice that when you look at it in game it does tend to look better than when looking at the raw texture file. I would try setting your sim detail/texture detail options to the max when in-game to get them to look their best. Another option is to make your ts3 texture double the size (2048 x 2048) in order to get a higher resolution. However, even if this is done, the game will still shrink it down to 1024 x 1024. In order to get the higher resolution to show up, you'd have to edit the game files (super easy) and/or get an hq mod. Just be aware that doing this might slow down your game a bit, so make sure your pc can handle it.
So the the sims neck not aligning with the head has to do with the vertices on each body part not matching EXACTLY. Even if one vertice is misaligned you'll probably get a gap in that area. You can fix this manually by importing the sim head into blender and using the magnet tool to make the neck vertices snap to the head vertices. If everything looks good in blender then it's probably just an issue with the way the bones were assigned. Thankfully @thornowl updated meshtoolkit to properly fix gaps/mismatched normals for all ages. You can download that version here. After you assign the bones like normal, just go to auto tools for wso > seam fixer, and import the file you just assigned bones to. Assign morphs to that file and BOOM, no gaps ;).
I get this problem when i use the nude mesh too. I only really use the nude mesh as a reference when the clothing is more slim fitting. Ideally you want to use a reference that's closest to your item, so if you're converting a sweater you want to use another sweater as your reference.

After many laborious days of sitting hunched over my laptop like a molerat... she's hereee! I converted the clothing ONLY (i'll leave the accessories for another day...), and included all of the belted/non-belted/patterned/graphic/solid variations as well. Not all of the original shirt graphics are included due to the amount of work it was, so I settled on about 6-9 of my favorite swatches each.
Also I just wanted to mention that, like always, the teen versions were giving me trouble so there may be seams on some of the items. If you notice any other issues tho, please mention them to me! This was a lot of stuff to convert so sometimes things slip through the cracks😞
The Leo tee was converted by me previously, so if you already have it make sure to delete it before downloading this!

updated 06/10/2024: there was a bug in which having the merged file in your mods folder would cause crashing when sending sims to university. I've removed the merged options from both this and the axa 2021 collection. please make sure you have the individual packages and not the merged one(s)!
updated 06/02/2024: fixed the multipliers on the layla top and max/sam sweatpants, color should be less blinding now. Please completely delete any of the old files and replace them with the new ones!

some of yall need to name your packages properly. use camelCasing or PascalCasing. not into that? separate each word with an underscore (_) or hyphen (-)

i don't care. a week ago, i ran my folder for a batch fix and s4s skipped one file because the filename contained a damned special character. i just renamed it and ran that specific package again.

hi again! you've probably figured this out by now, but you need to press each layer then press the "select" button on both to highlight them in red. so first you'd press "geom-01", then the select button, then you'd press your "s4studio_mesh", then select. With both selected you can then hit "regroup" to combine them.
