HELLO FELLOW MUNCHIES. today i will share you some cane tips for your faking needs because ily all. my credentials are i use a cane for realsies
inb4 "but what if i take a cane from someone who really needs it?" theyre like 20 bux at cvs and there are infinitely more online, i promise The Needy will have dealer's choice on canes. if you're REALLY worried, absolutely do not get a cane from those places that take donations in order to give mobility aids to disabled people who can't afford them, and proceed with caution if you get a cane from the thrift (if your thrift store always seems to have a lot of them, go for it, but if not just save up and get one online)
there are lots of cane types but for ease of movement you're gonna wanna get one with those lil silicone grips. the adjustable height ones are also really nice because you are GOING to need to adjust the height depending on what shoe you're wearing, and there r also ones like hurrycane that fold up
the standard cane foot that comes w a cane is good but hurrycanes come with a self-standing cane tip so you ca just let it go and it wont fall (u can buy this seperate, its called a self-standing cane foot) if you don't want this, cane tips also come in other colors! they do get worn out on the bottom and need to be replaced tho, otherwise its a trip hazard bc that thang will slip n slide. also it wont hold ur weight as good
u need an ice pick (google "cane ice pick) for winter, a lot of them have a mechanism to just be flipped up bc obvi u cant use them indoors
when u use a cane use it on the OPPOSITE SIDE of whichever leg is the "bad" one. if i were you, i'd make your right leg be the bad one, so you can hold the cane in your left hand (and vice versa if you're a lefty) but really its ur choice. when i use my cane, i tend to switch hands sometimes, even when just walking around (i got two bad legs and one cane lmfao.) also take into account which side you wear a bag on if you do, bc having a bag on the same side as ur cane gets REAL annoying REAL fast
good way to make sure ur cane is the right height is to relax the arm ur using the cane with and stand the cane up next to it, the hand grip thing should be flush with ur wrist. it can hurt you if you use a too tall/too short cane so watch out!
as for the limp part, i actually rarely have a limp when i use my cane, so it's not really required. but if you want to have that je ne sais qous about it...... pebble in your shoe. big pebble, something that hurts to put weight on. it'll give you a limp, and eventually with enough practice you'll learn to mimic the movement without the pebble. or just keep it in there, im not the boss of you (but be careful not to cause permanent damage, ok?)
also getting insoles for ur shoes and compression socks can add to the feeling of "oh im SO sick my legs are SO bad, i need to wear all this STUFF just to walk around" and no one will even see them! there are compression socks that look just like fashion socks, so it can be your own little secret ;) and insoles r honestly a good idea no matter who you are
anyway uhhhh yeah i really only wrote this bc im bored. munch it up out there -🏝️
Aw, that's very insightful and sweet of you to share, Jabberwock! Thank you!
