The designs from the original movie are basically perfect, which is why I didn't really dare to touch them... until a certain trailer dropped recently.
I'm a spiteful creature.
Anyway. Some ground rules. I tried to make these creatures overall a little bit more realistic and grounded without robbing them of the inherent whimsy that the originals had. All of them are tetrapods, so only 4 limbs max.
Nightfury
These guys have no more functional limbs to move on the ground. They are living stealth bombers. Silent fast fliers.
On the ground they flop around similar to seals, forming small colonies on top of tall cliffs.
Red Death
At a certain size it becomes unfeasible to fly for even a dragon. The Red Death stays on the ground using it's heavy armor and enormous size when raiding other dragon nesting colonies. it'as wings are more like spurs, to injure rivals in combat.
Gronkle
The original had a hummingbird style in flying , something that doesn't work for an animal of this size. My compromise is to make the wings rather stout and being able to be folded a lot.
Nadder
Easiest design, take a unfeathered theropod and combine it with a bearded dragon.
Shellfire
This was the last one I made on stream, it is one of the (in my eyes) worst designs from the shows, so a nice challenge to make it work a little better.
This guy is now a filter feeder, using its large horns to funnel water into its mouth.
Zippleback
Multi-headed dragons are really tricky. In my design I made one of the heads a parasitic male, similar to angler fish, that hitches a ride on the back of the larger female.
Monstrous Nightmare
One of the most classic dragons from the original movie. Lots of crocodilian influence here. The osteoderms on its back have pores from which it produces flammable secretions.
Razorwhip
A fast an agile dragon, but the original doesn't really show that in the head shape and all these spines don't help. I put some tapejarid influence into it.
Rumblehorn
The massive neck of this dragon doesn't work well in terms of aerodynamics, unless it's an inflatable display structure ;)
Whispering Death
The giant maw of this dragon is an even greater challenge, but when you give it the gular pouch of a pelican eel and turn these eyes into eye-spots, it works quite well.
And of course the Terrible Terror!
As you can see it's in my case a close relative of the nadder.
Lord Saladin gave Crow the Iron Lord Axe at the end of Season of the Risen.. when Saladin went to join Cabal after the death of a psion that Crow accidentally killed. Tbh it was interesting that he used it on the Witness’ arm.

your ears twitched upon hearing his boisterous laugh. it rose your ire, and now you're seeing red.
"DON'T FUCKING LAUGH I HATE YOU!"
"IT'S NOT-" he sputters. "IT'S NOT THAT BA-HAHAHAHHHAAH!"
"GET OUT KAYN FUCK YOU!"
you slammed the bathroom door shut, leaving kayn howling outside. his mockery ticked off something in your head. the frustration from your failure and kayn's taunting made the room seem so small, its walls slowly closing in on you as your chest heaved up and down. the humid air inside is starting to suffocate you. you needed to do something, fast, or else you would get crushed. so you did what you do best—cleaning.
you tried your best to avoid looking at the mirror as you tidied up the mess. normally, it soothes your nerves, yet suddenly everything makes you icky. how the collar of your shirt clung to the base of your neck, making you uncomfortable. your ears twitched with the squeaking noise from slippers as you moved around. you can't help but grimace at the hairs that kept appearing again even after sweeping them off. you narrowed your eyes, surveying the sight before you, and let out an exasperated sigh.
then, your gaze accidentally landed on the mirror.
your impulsiveness costs you your mid-length hair. it used to fall just above your chest, but now it is a butchered bob with uneven cuts, especially on the back. initially, you only wanted to trim the ends, then one thing led to another, so now you're staring at yourself in the mirror at 2 AM with tears your threatening to fall.
"you could've just gone to the salon to get the job done, but no. you just have to do it yourself, don't you?'" you scolded yourself in your head as you examine your mangled hair.
you bit your lip. as panic finally settled in the pit of your stomach, your grip on the edge of the sink tightened. you just got hired from your dream company and it will be your first day on the job this coming monday.
"they won't take me seriously if i look like this," you shuddered. you tried to inhale as much air as you could to drown the sob that was about to spill from your lips.
a trim, that's all you wanted! it should have been easy enough to do at home. easy enough to do so you don't have to spend money for it. with kayn getting kicked out from the band and with you getting out of unemployment only recently, you have a tight budget, one that could not afford the luxury of getting your hair cut professionally. and now, you'll be forced to pay to fix the abominable hair of yours.
you watch your lips twist into a deep frown, your reflection mirroring every minuscule detail of yours. the longer you stare at yourself, the more heavy your chest becomes, the harder it is to breathe, and then-!
you suddenly burst out crying.
hot, angry tears stream down your cheeks. your body feels as if it is on fire, resentment seeping out from your skin. thoughts filled your head, yet none of it made any sense. they were all incoherent murmurs against the loud pounding of your heart.
your hair. your job. kayn.
kayn—he's outside doing god knows what. probably still laughing like an idiot, probably tinkering something in the kitchen, completely forgetting about your dilemma. you badly want to run to his arms and curse at the world, but you're still fucking pissed at him.
your shoulders shook with every breath. the room never felt smaller- the walls are closing in on you, slowly squeezing out the air from your lungs. every second that you spend inside your bathroom agonizes you. you wanted to get out and scream, but you stayed glued to your spot.
you can practically taste the snot dripping from your nose. a choked noise escaped from your lips as you furiously wiped the tears that kept streaming down your face. from your cheeks, down to your shirt, then to the tiled floor- they were all tear-stained, blemished with your bitterness.
amongst the uproar in your head, you heard his voice calling for you, loud and clear.
"hey, babe…?" "are you crying?"
he was met with muffled sniffles. tension hung around in the air like a thick fog. you refused to reply, knowing that you would only slur your words.
"ok, i'm done laughing now. open the door, baby," he tried coaxing you. gone was the humor in his voice. for a man like kayn, he was being gentle for sure, but it didn't budge you out of your spot.
your vision blurs, the tears blocking your eyes making your surroundings look hazy.
"hey! open the door!"
on the other side of the door, kayn was beggining to be restless. you shut yourself inside the bathroom for almost an hour now, and it concerns him. who knows that you could be doing there?
he won't admit it but he kinda felt bad for laughing at you earlier. but who wouldn't be?! no one can resist laughing at how ridicously adorable you looked! sure, your hair seemed a little bit askew, but aside from that, your lips pursed into a frustrated pout and reddened cheeks were definitely a sight to see.
kayn enjoyed poking fun at you. taunting you was amusing for him because of how creative you were at your retorts and how colorful your language was when you cursed him. when he says something mean, your reply is even meaner. whenever kayn tries to stir something and provoke you, the both of you only end up maniacally cackling together. but it appears like this time, not like those times. you were upset, so kayn does what he does best—
"i'm tearing this door down if you don't open it. i swear!"
—be an idiot.
"i'm gonna count to three, 'ya hear me?" he assumed a stance, then begin counting. "one, two, thr-"
the bathroom door swung open. you knew your lover won't hesitate to break the door if it's for you. so amidst your face being streaked with tears, snot, and drool, while your eyes were bloodshot and puffy from all the crying, you opened the door for him.
"hey, baby," he greeted you with a softness akin to cotton. within milliseconds, he's all upon you.
he immediately sought for you. he snaked an arm around your waist, while his other hand rests at the back of your head. you instictively reciprocated his embrace and buried your head in his chest. too tired to be annoyed with him anymore, you let yourself be comforted by his presence. your sniffles echo around your shared apartment. kayn craddled you closer to him.
"shh. it's okay," you heard him say, along with other sweet nothings he whispered on your ears.
he started petting your head to help you calm down. it was effective to say the least. your weeping instantly subsided into faint hiccups until it finally disolves into complete silence.
you were the first one to break the hug. you pulled your head away from him, a wet blob on his shirt marking your presence. you did not dare meet his gaze.
"i still hate you, by the way," you blurted out.
he opened his mouth to say something sarcastic but you were quick to grab the hem of his shirt and use it to dry your tears. then, you ultimately used it to blow your nose.
"ew, gross! babe, stop!"
he tried to wiggle away from you but you held tight and made sure to thoroughly clean your nose. just a little payback, you thought.
you then looked up to meet his irritated gaze with your swollen eyes. his face is scrunched up; his lips are frowning while his brows were almost knitted together. within seconds, you two bursted out laughing. you're practically vibrating at the stupidity of your situation. your eyes crinkle as the sound of kayn's hooting hover around you. seems that a huge weight has been lifted off your chest. you're not upset anymore, at least not much. you feel at ease whenever kayn is around, as if no matter what happens, he'll take care of you.
as silence ensued, he then seized you by the wrist. he was staring at you intently, his eyes boring into yours. there was a sense of urgency in his expression, or was it excitement? what could he be scheming now?
"so about your hair—"
"stop it," you cut him off immediately, wanting to just forget about everything and sleep it off. "i'll just go to the salon tomorrow or whatever-"
kayn, persistent as ever, heed no attention to you and proceeded to cup your cheeks with his hand. he squeezed it firmly, your lips forming into an "o" shape.
"hep hep hep! zip it," he let out a mischevious smirk. his smugness oozing out. "don't worry. i got you, baby," he then gave you a wink.
you wanted to protest but he already left to get a chair. when he came back, he grab your shoulders and made you sit down. in a flash, he is already behind you with a pair of scissors on his hand. he titled your chin forward using his other hand to level your head. you glared at him through the mirror, but he already busied himself behind you to even notice it.
"you can trust me on this one, baby. i swear."
and you did, even if you're quite nervous. this is kayn after all, the kayn that almost burned down your kitchen. an impulsive idiot, yes— just like you hours ago when you decided to trim your own hair. although he won't verbalize how sorry he is for making fun of you, he makes up for it by doing whatever the hell this is. you can't tell if his movements are laced with certainty or just pure bravado, as he cuts and snips your hair. his carefree humming doesn't help either.
"me likey, me likey likey likey."
you recognize it from a kpop group, twice, which he stubbornly won't admit that he listens to.
"all done, baby." he smirked at you through the mirror.
you stared at yourself in the mirror. you never had your hair cut this short ever. it is new, but you don't hate it. you examined his work. he sculpted your previous, mangled work into a better one. no more uneven cuts and it doesn't look dishelved anymore.
"you can style it like this," he said as he demonstrated it. "or you can wait it out to get longer, then we'll cut it like so, then we can style it like that."
you barely undesrtood the words that he is saying as you were already preparing to jump on him.you snaked your arms around his neck and peppered his face with kisses to thank him. from his nose to his cheeks, then to his forehead, there were no spot left untouched, no spot left unloved.
"hey, hey! calm down," he feighed annoyance. he loved getting all these attention from you but he won't admit it. however, his not-so-discrete reactions tells you otherwise.
as you stared at him lovingly, you felt his arms wrapped around your waist. your lips twist into a content smile. you lover may be an asshole, but he has his moments, just like this one.
"thank you, baby," you said with all the sincerity you have.
"yeah, whatever," pink dusted his cheeks. "just stay away from the scissors next time, okay?"
you rolled your eyes and pecked his nose. he knew how stressful it must have been for you these past few weeks, so fucking up your hair might have been the last straw. that's why even though kayn felt triumphant because he's rewarded with your kisses, what matters the most is that your problem is fixed and that you're okay now. he's glad that he gets to make you feel better. he hated seeing you cry, as it felt as if he was being stabbed multiple times. with your eyes brimmed with tears and your nose runny—he can't stand the pained look on your face. although he can't help but admire your beauty in those times, sadness doesn't suit you.
"damn, what would you do without me?"
"oh shut up!"
"aww, my helpless princess!"
"ugh, fuck you, man!"
"oh yes you will, darling~"
you didn't. you cleaned up the mess of hair in your bathroom with his help, took a warm shower, and then collapsed next to him in bed.

Before Heartsteel
You’ve been with him before he was kicked out of his old band (maybe even well before he started his music career), so of course, Rhaast was no secret to you. He never was, really. You actually liked Rhaast and loved seeing him just go crazy and do what he wanted without much of a care of the consequences. Kayn figured this is why he was initially drawn to you, because you accepted this part of him.
His band was pretty much the opposite. They held him back extensively because of Rhaast. The situation itself and seeing him lash out time to time made you worried on how much more he could stand being with that group. Some days, you just let him rant to you. You don’t know much on the other members in general besides their names and their roles in the band, but seeing him so frustrated because of them felt like maybe it’s best if you didn’t.
When Kayn did get kicked out, you let him stay around for a bit. A bit eventually became a while. Totally weren’t preparing for this, you made sure there was plenty of room for him. An artist needs his own space after all, though he didn’t exactly pick up his guitar for some time.
It’s been rough for Kayn for a while. He was getting easily irritated over the smallest things and seemed to often get into fights online. You’ve had to keep him off social media more than once before he really made things worse for himself. His reputation has taken quite a hit when he was kicked out, so this was for the best if it means he doesn’t damage further by doing something stupid.
Rhaast, on the other hand, was a bit harder. Rhaast liked to leave a mark, mostly in a physical sense. There were times where you had to stop him from actually getting into serious trouble. It was hard to talk him out of it and sometimes you had to keep him from walking out that door. Doing such a thing did make you feel bad since you’re holding him back almost like his old band did with him, so there were times where you hesitated. Don’t get him wrong though, he knows you’re just worried about his wellbeing.
When he finally did pick up his guitar again, the songs he made were quite clearly targeted towards his old band. Rhaast was going all out and you encouraged that. Of course, these songs never went public for obvious reasons (though Rhaast almost argued with you to upload them somewhere). Hearing songs like these from him were really the one and only times where you can hear just how truly angry he was. Still, you were glad he was letting it out in a way that felt natural to him. Artists letting out their frustrations through songs weren’t uncommon, and most of the ones out there needed to have their listeners read between the lines to understand and see the artist. But you? You didn’t have to. It was all right there in front of you.
Approaching Kayn on the topic itself is rather difficult as he tends to get defensive and dismissive over it, so really, the best you could do was get his mind off of it for a little while. Anything works as long as he was doing something, anything. It didn’t matter what it was.
It’d take quite some time for him to actually come to you for comfort on the matter. When he does though, it was a huge weight off of both of your shoulders. It basically just happened one night, and it was one of those nights for him where his thoughts were keeping him awake. He can’t sleep, you can’t sleep either, so you two just kind of talked for a bit to tire each other out. Eventually, the topic shifts and you can feel his hold on you tighten ever so slightly.
Kayn almost never showed a vulnerable side of him, especially around you. He had his own reasons for that. On the rare occasion that he does, know that it means he trusts you more than anything.
He is happy that you stayed and helped him as long as you did (both being his muse and just supporting him). He makes you aware of it during that night and he does continue to show his appreciation in his own way, whether it’s simply some quality time or even writing a song for you.
Things did eventually calm down and Kayn was beginning to just enjoy doing what he wanted to do again just for the fun of it rather than out of spite. As long as he’s happier now. There’s nothing else to say about his old band.
General stuff between you two
Teasing. So much teasing… He loves your flustered and/or slightly annoyed look when he does it. He finds it adorable.
Kayn can drive but for the love of god never actually let him drive. The chances of getting pulled over and arrested for reckless driving is really high up there. Just let him be in charge of the music, he’ll at least he satisfied with that.
You two still text each other on Discord even if you’re in the same room. He just likes hearing you laugh over what he sends. This does include videos he finds online that he thinks (knows) you’ll laugh to.
Matching hair color! It’s fun, a pain in the ass to get done, but fun. There was a bit of a mess in the bathroom though, and that wasn’t fun to clean.
“Hah! It looks like a murder took place in here!”
“I murdered your hair, that’s for sure.”
“What?! Are you kidding me? This isn’t the first time you did my hair! It’s perfect!”
“Well yeah, but your long hair is gone… I really loved your long hair…”
“I mean- It’ll grow back eventually.”
Lunch and dinner sometimes include ordering some food and having it delivered, then eating it in your shared room. Is it healthy food? No, but hey, at least you’re both eating food. If it wasn’t that, then one of you was cooking. Kayn’s cooking is not that bad, but it could be better. Don’t say that though.
Doing each other’s makeup. Although, it started with you wanting to do his and him saying he’ll let you do it if you let him do yours. Now it’s routine.
Playing with his hair. Loves it when you do it. Just him laying his head beside you, or on your chest, with your hands running through his hair. It calms him down and makes him sleepy sometimes. He’ll deny it though.
“Sleepy?”
“No.” *literally about to fall asleep*
“Sureee.”
“Shut up.”
Though there are some nights where one of you can’t fall asleep no matter what you do. Whether it’s insomnia or the other just won’t shut the fuck up (Kayn), at least one of you is still awake. If you feel someone brushing your hair in the middle of the night and giving small pecks, it’s totally not Kayn.
Heartsteel
When Heartsteel found one of his songs and sent him a message, you were okay with him eventually moving in with the group. Kayn has been talking about them for some time, and you think this might be good for him. From what he’s been telling you, these people accept Rhaast. Totally not the one reason why you were okay with it in the first place.
He often texts you about what’s going on and teases you by asking if you miss him. Say no. :) Sometimes complains to you about Yone, but it’s just him being assigned a chore (dish duty).
It does get a bit lonely sometimes now, but he’s happy to be around a group of people that doesn’t push Rhaast away so it doesn’t bother you. Kayn does make up for it by calling you and sometimes dropping by. The second one isn’t often though. Again, gotta keep fans and paparazzi from finding out about your relationship. Although speaking of calls, there were times where you two fell asleep while on call. It usually ends with one of your phones running out of battery.
The group seems to know about you. Yone and Sett has heard of you once or twice, but K’Sante is the one that knows about you the most. According to K’Sante, Kayn talks about you a lot. Ezreal only knows about you cause he got a peak at his phone and saw your name thanks to one of your over night phone calls and he won’t stop asking Kayn about you.
“Dude who’s [name]??? Is that who you’re always talking to all night?”
“The hell are you looking in my phone for??!”
Ahem… Kayn did get some relationship advice from K’Sante. Honestly this is exactly why he knows a lot about you from him.
Aphelios only knows about you because of Sett, who then tells Alune.
Kayn tried to keep the music video of Paranoia on the down low so it could surprise you, but he needed to tell you about the dog the moment they picked him up. With that aside, seeing the music video definitely put a smile on your face. He looked like he was having a lot of fun with the new band (you totally saw the Discord calls Aphelios leaked).
