at some point i implemented the worst tagging system rp tumblr has ever seen so there's that

"Hah. Personalities. Yes, some of them certainly do have those," she comments as if referring to some sort of Foundationer inside joke. At the same time, part of her wonders if Stanley was just putting up with all this, just following her for appearance's sake while he collected data. But those were quickly labeled as irrational, human thought patterns- after all, he did always seem to say what he meant, and until something happens to prove otherwise she resolves to take what he says at face value.

Night quickly waves off his inquiries regarding safety. Almost too quickly. "No, not concerned- I have ensured that they cannot detect you, and most everyone who'd care enough to thoroughly investigate is in some sort of 'emergency' meeting. Which occur every other week, usually because someone's paranoid about something. We have... plenty of time."

She's relieved that he isn't taking her implication- that they contained things like him- the wrong way, or at least he doesn't appear to realize. Or maybe he just doesn't care. Either way, she calls up 017's file in her head, automatically beginning to navigate her way to its chambers before consciously thinking to do so.

They arrive only minutes later, Night having taken a few lesser-known shortcuts to cut through the Site and arrive at a tiny, unimpressive concrete room. She steps through the sliding doors into a room with high-intensity arc lamp spotlights shining from the ceiling, walls and floor, and only just realizes what this might look like to Stanley. Or how it might affect him.

A glass cage hangs in the middle of the room, suspended in the air, with the shadow figure crouched in the corner of it. To an untrained eye it would almost look like the shadow of a young child, curled up, but looking directly at them. It has no facial features, obviously, or any other features for that matter, but its head was tilted towards them just the same.

Night isn't sure what to do here. "It- well, this is one of the older ones, first of all. But the only reason it's up there is because it... consumes, I guess, anything that casts a shadow on it. It just reaches out and whatever's causing the shadow is taken. Apparently they lost a couple people trying to get it up there in the first place," she says by way of explanation, and then proceeds to stand quite helplessly, glancing back and forth between Stanley and SCP-017 as if she isn't sure what to look at.

Stanley has no reason to believe that Night would put either of them in danger. If she felt anything in here was too dangerous for them to be around, surely she would keep them away from it, wouldn't she? And should anything prove to be too dangerous, then Stanley would be able to do something about it, wouldn't he? He is already dead. A shadow. Perhaps he would be able to make a difference.

Perhaps.

Besides, he really does want to meet this other shadow entity.

He quietly follows along with where Night leads, darting from shadow to shadow where they are available - hitching a ride in Night's where they aren't - traveling through the darkness up in the ceiling where all else fails.

He isn't sure what to expect of meeting this fellow shadow entity except for them to be shade-like in some way. For the room to be entirely without shadows or the ability to produce them is a surprise - that is, except for the presence of the shadow entity itself.

Stanley hangs back wherever he is able, wherever there is any shadow or darkness in which he can squat, and observes the childlike shadow crouching in the corner of the hanging class cage in the middle of the room, deeply fascinated by them. He feels... sad. Are they lonely in there? Scared? Maybe they don't understand their existence either. Stanley also wonders why they appear to be a child. It's perhaps that fact that makes him feel the most sad.

He sends a message to Night's phone.

Does the light not cause them any discomfort or pain? I ask because so much light is extraordinarily uncomfortable to me. Is there a way I might be able to communicate with them? Do they understand text, or do they understand speech at all?

The only way Stanley can think to reach out to the little shadow child himself would be if he were to literally appear inside of their body the way he does to all other areas of darkness, effectively possessing them... but he doesn't know what that would do to either of them, if that would hurt himself or the child.

All he knows is that seeing them there, he desperately wants to reach out to them, or at least attempt to.

Night fixes her gaze on the shadow child, not even needing to look down at her phone to read Stanley's questions. "The thing is- we don't know. We don't know anything about it, why it avoids light, whether it can even think, and so on. Partially because this is actually one of the first anomalies contained by the Foundation, ever, so we haven't really gotten around to doing proper tests on it, and it's on no one's priority list. It's my guess that the original containment team was unable to communicate with it at all, or it would've been placed in a regular humanoid containment chamber after negotiations."

"…I must say. The light may cause it some form of pain, or fear, or some other instinctive emotional response. Not to say it necessarily has emotions, but- anyway. On the other hand, it may have a self-preservation instinct, but nothing more, simply the urge to avoid death. In which case you wouldn't need to worry about it."

She neglects to acknowledge her steadily rising risk assessment factor. Messing around with Safe SCPs was all well and good, but she has a growing suspicion that they're heading towards what even she would deem as proper cross-testing. Well, it would be cross-testing if Stanley was a registered anomaly- as of now it's only just another degree worse of a protocol violation.

"Oh, what the hell, you're already here, you can do whatever." Night finally sighs in his direction. "Just be careful. Please. …there's only so much I can try to cover up." Before he moves to do anything though, she continues. "And, remember, you become the shadows you come into contact with. It consumes the shadows, and anything in them. And by consumes I mean… everything it's taken is just gone. Thankfully not retroactive or antimemetic erasure, just comprehensively wiped out."

She makes herself look a touch less nervous about this prospect. "But hey, you could try. Maybe you're stronger than it. Who knows."

It's true Stanley had been wanting to gather data on Night's Foundation and the entities contained within, but he wasn't expecting to be taken on a joy ride of sorts through the facility. He was taken a bit by surprise by it, not knowing at first how to react to such shenanigans. It wasn't normally something he was used to getting up to.

He did take well to it, though, especially after getting to that Ashur fellow. How remarkably easy it is to have a good time messing with someone markedly stupider than you are. Stanley often feels like it's the other way around, like he's the one missing something, and so it's like a breath of fresh air to feel on top of things for once, even if it is coming at someone else's expense.

It's hard for him to feel even the slightest bit bad about it as they leave that anomaly behind and he is greeted by Night's laughter. Stanley feels enchanted by it, smiling himself even though - being a shadow person - it's difficult to make out. He wishes he could laugh with her.

Sending a response to her phone or any electronic device she is carrying with her is the best he can do, though.

Hahaha, it was funny. I had not realized how foolish some of the anomalies would be. They have such personalities.

There is a brief pause before he sends his next response, and he shifts so that he is a little more comfortable hanging out in the nearest collection of shadows.

Others? Shadow entities? Possibly like him? Even if they might be hostile, Stanley has a sudden interest of meeting them. They might be able to help him learn more about himself. Plus, he can't help but feel a certain... kinship there, strange as it is.

Is it safe to continue with this tomfoolery? Not that I am against it. I am rather enjoying myself. But if you are concerned that we might get you into trouble, then might we need to stop? Otherwise, I am interested in seeing more. If there are shadow entities, as you say, I would be interested in meeting them.

the problem with having Axel here is that. they are not a character developed for this RP blog. neither was Night, but she grew into it.

Axel on the other hand is coming out of nowhere (read: FL gameplay + discord). I mean there's just so much about this guy that I have not shared on here at all. like look at all this

“Okay, here’s the issue- my childhood is so far removed from, well, who I am at this point, that it might as well have zero effect. Obviously, my particular chain of events led me to this point, but- if you’re talking about my original childhood, there’s… not much left of it. Apparently I hadn’t formed clear enough memories when they uploaded me. I mean, I could piece together the data, but I’m not very… enthusiastic about doing that? One thing I’m certain happened was my unwise decision to run away from home, which was most likely a catalyst for the path my life went down. Not sure when it happened, but I was young. Most children’s runaway attempts fail, you know- apparently I wasn’t so lucky.”
