“I want to be able to trust, not live in perpetual self-defense.”
— Anaïs Nin, The Diary of Anaïs Nin, Vol. 3: 1939-1944
the way white women read any dunne’s character vs the way black women interpret her is w i l d l y different. white women are so obssesed with this idea of a complex woman driven crazy by men that they forget the part where her white womanhood gives amy the presumption of innocence at every turn and saves her from being blamed for her actions or even looked at suspiciously by the majority of the police and the people around her. and the same thing goes for mama and amma in sharp objects. like sure these women are “complex” whatever that means but at the end of the day these women commit heinous crimes and are still alllowed the presumption of innocence to the near end because they are white women
