Maybe let’s not make generalized derogatory statements about “the Chinese” when discussing the actions of some Chinese people in fandom spaces, what if we tried that
In all seriousness, the way I’ve seen some people talk about Chinese fanbases in gacha communities has been pretty gross. They are very frequently treated as a whole entity that all think the same way rather than a collection of different people with their own unique perspectives. Often, the entirety of Chinese players are blamed for anything bad and treated as an enemy of sorts. From my years in the Nikki community I’ve seen a variety of sentiments like “The Chinese players all hate male characters and are the reason we don’t have as many human characters”, “the Chinese players didn’t like this event so we won’t get it on global, they’re ruining our version of the game”, “Chinese people are racist so that’s why Wasteland is like that”, etc. Some may be less serious than others (like the event one), but the framing of these players as some sort of “other” that all think the same that we need to be against is concerning.
I think there is something to be said about companies like Infold appearing to prioritize certain players’ input in their development choices over others (for example, a small subset of the most high spending players), but making these broad, derogatory statements about an entire group of people is not the way to do it.
