What's interesting to me is that in both situations where Reze lost, she was never overpowered but instead outsmarted. She was caught off-guard by Denji using chains and she was caught off-guard by Makima posing as a distraction so Angel could kill her from afar.
Strategy and foresight is what she lacked. This implies that the people who experimented on her only trained her to fight offensivelyâ not to protect herself â because they didn't care about her well-being or survival as long as she completes her missions. This was already obvious but the way her upbringing (and how disposable they viewed her) can be seen even in her combat style is very sad.
There is a contrast between her and Denji here. In this arc, Denji won because of what his companions taught him. Reze taught him how to swim, Angel suggested the chains, Beam provided intel about her (and also acted as support). And of course Aki was there trying to protect him. Reze didn't have anyone looking out for her like that. Her handlers only trained her to brute-force every obstacle and if she doesn't manage to, is expected to just die.

I literally admire and love the themes of love in Chainsaw Man so much. Idk. Given how chaotic and brutal Chainsaw Man as a manga can be, I just personally find some of the themes on love to be really sweet and beautiful. Denji deep down just wanting love in a relationship, Power loving Meowy then learning to love Denji as a friend, Aki learning to love both devils and humans, Makima deep down wanting love from a human connection, Reze learning to love Denji, Asa learning what she wants in love- thereâs way more but those are the main examples. And as I said, I just find the themes of love Fujimoto put in the characters to be oddly beautiful. Despite everything being practically chaotic and a hellhole, they all still manage to have beautiful themes on connection and love.
Makima is terrifying because she functions like a Panopticon. She keeps the limits of her eavesdrop ability vague, forcing those who know about it to assume sheâs listening everywhere all the time. That uncertainty becomes a form of control all on its own.
The effect also works on us, the reader, since when her secret is revealed, not only does every scene after always have the added layer of Makima possibly listening, but every scene before it as well.

things to keep in mind: Reader will be awkward and have both social anxiety and ADHD, for a while they wonât know what to say to things and might be a little awkward in scenarios. The fluorescent lights buzzed overhead, the soft sound of fabric rustling as someone shifted and the clacking of keys were the only other sounds that filled the otherwise silent classroom. People alike kept their heads down, either typing on their keyboards, scratching pen on paper, or scrolling through social media on their phones, waiting. Finally the professor looked up from whatever work she was doing, a tired look on her face.

Immediately students practically jumped up from their seats, grabbing their bags and shuffling out of the room. You watched the others leave, slowly grabbing your bag off the floor and stuffing your laptop into your bag, not really wanting to shove shoulders with other students to get out of the small door. Getting up out of the uncomfortable seat you stretched, a small satisfied huff leaving you as your muscles released. Luckily with how long it took you to pack up most people were already gone, making leaving the classroom easy.Â
Making your way out, there was the usual teacherâs assistant waiting there, a kind smile on her face. You, for the love of everything, could not remember her name even slightly, which you felt bad for since she was a really kind girl. You kept your gaze low as you shuffled out, not wanting to aggro into a conversation you desperately did not want to have, but unfortunately you just had to take the risk and glance up, locking eyes with the girl. Her white hair shined even under the harsh lighting of the fluorescent lights, her purple eyes glinted with pure kindness that made your brain feel fuzzy.

It was a simple sentence, a very normal and polite sentence. It barely processed in your mind before what you assumed was a very awkward smile formed on your face, mouth opening in response.

Closing the door behind you with a soft âclickâ, you quickly slipped your shoes off and put them in the little shoe rack you and your roommate sharedâit was convenient for the both of you, as for awhile there was just a pile of shoes by the door youâd end up tripping over. You could hear her shuffling around in her room, probably fidgeting with one of her gadgets. Your bag slid off your shoulder as you stepped into your room, falling onto the ground with a small thud, making you wince as you completely forgot your laptop was in there.
The soft plush of your bed enveloped you as you flopped down into it, the tension in your muscles evaporating as you let out a deep sigh into the pillow, shoulders deflating. Now this was the best part of the day, lounging in your bed and doing absolutely nothing. After a moment you rolled over, staring upwards at the ceiling as your fan spun round and round above your head, your dormâs ac was doing the majority of the work. A moment passed, then two before you buried your face into your blanket. You were bored, ungodly so. Unfortunately for you there was practically nothing to do inside your dorm, it was either scroll mindlessly on social media and brain rot for hours or go annoy your roommate, which right now she seemed busy, so that was off the table.
Throwing yourself up and off your safe haven, you made your way to your discarded bag on the floor and pulled out your laptop. You gave it a quick once over, making sure the electronic you bought with your student loans was still working before heading back to your one true love and plopping back down. Immediately you went to Youtube, attempting to find something to watch but ultimately scrolling aimlessly until you closed the tab with a frustrated huff. Picking up your phone, you decide to do your usual roundsâchecking Instagram, watching some reels, opening Tiktok, scrolling through videos and videos until your thumb cramped.
Wagging your hand back and forth to ease the tension radiating in your poor thumb, you lastly opened Discord. Absolutely dry, darling. No notifications, not even the random @ everyone youâd get in obscure servers occasionally.
You opened up some of the servers you had joined, mainly just because you enjoyed the specific media it was for, and went through a few general chats. There were people talking, but the thought of jumping in made you nervous. What if you said hi and suddenly everyone stopped talking? What if they were weirded out by your presence? It was just too risky.
But god, you needed some friends. You had only your eccentric roommate to talk to, and as much as you do enjoy her company, she could be a raging asshole sometimes. Most times. The one time you attempted to tell her, âHey, please stop saying Iâm a loser virgin who will never get any bitchesâ, she got extremely timid and almost cowardly, which threw you off so hard YOU ended up apologizing!
Maybe actually talking to people would help you feel like an actual human in society, or at the very least help you to not mumble and stumble over your words. Confidently, you opened Dismord, going to a few different tags and already sweating bullets. Either the servers seemed too intimidating and large or they obviously only had one person and ten bots, which would be extremely awkward to join.
Scrolling and scrolling and scrolling and scrolling.
Your eyes were beginning to hurt from staring at the screen for too long, to which you rubbed them with the palms of your hands before continuing. Finally you stumbled across one that actually didnât seem too half bad. About 20ish people, give or take a few bots maybe. The description seemed nice, not too uptight.

Well, it didnât seem all bad besides that one part, must be some desperate attempt at getting people to join. It was working, as you were heavily debating it. Your finger hovered over your trackpad, trembling slightly, and you felt so stupid. Why were you so nervous? You shouldnât be this anxious, but you can feel your heart pounding against your ribs. You just needed to click it, click the damn join button and maybe, hopefully make some actual friends.
Fuck it.
You clicked quickly without thinking, and you immediately regretted it as you watched your Discord pop up and ask if you wanted to accept the invite. You quickly pressed accept, already too far deep now. The familiar ping of a discord notification rang out through your laptopâs speakers, along with that little red dot that almost seemed mocking. Quickly you were hit with another three notifications that, embarrassingly, made you jump a bit, the red dot showing you now had 4 unread messages in the server you just joined.
Nibbling your bottom lip raw, you opened them, hand trembling. The first one was a typical welcome message from a bot, telling you to read the rules and grab some roles. The three others were from the actual members of the server, three of them sending that stupid little discord sticker of the bird waving. Then there were the messages.
LMAAAAOOOO why THE FUCK am I playing as a SchutzFUCKINGstaffe member and having to listen to excuses for genocide the whole fucking game?!? LooooL
I liked some of the routes in this game and the concept behind the "canonical" route if only it had ended with Rebellion (because I just can't bring myself to agree to commit a fucking holocaust even in a game lmao) and been completely rewritten by a normal writer.
Eito's a cool character, but how the fuck did he manage to fall in love with a moron like Takumi??

I cannot BELIEVE we got Eito saying IN HIS DYING BREATHS that when he saw Darumi walking around the school one night she TOOK HIS BREATH AWAY and that his heart belonged to her from that moment on and there's not one BAJILLION fan art comics depicting the moment. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!
The first kind act he ever did in his LIFE was blatantly sabotaging the school to get suspicion away from her, and then he DIED for her. UGH THE ROMANCE. MY HEAAAAART!
And then it's implied she cannibalized part of his corpse in order to intake his genetic code and memories and create a perfect duplicate. I think (don't quote me) that all the other corpses were also there, because they get revived by the Ruby Tear in the "good" ending for the route. So the fact she revives EITO of all people FIRST? Insane decision.
What do you think was going through her mind when she absorbed his memory and personality? He saw her as beautiful! Worth dying for! For even a moment before either her death or complete absorption into the hive mind Retsom, do you think she was able to view herself as beautiful?
This is such an insane dynamic to happen in like the last 30 days in literally one route, but UGH, I wish we had more of these two. Some other poster made this link too, but he literally has the "Saya No Uta" disease! She would get such a kick out of that!

Before this, I was actually shipping her with Yugamu, because I thought they could match each other's freak, but golly. Darumi x Eito is really top notch. Never would have expected it!
as much as a eito romance route would be cute, i really hope we get to see Eito's dynamics with other characters in the dlc. While eitaku is neat and all, he (and honestly most other characters, feel like they dont really interact besides with their lil cliques most of the time, eito just gets the brunt of it bc hes in a cage or dead 90% of the time) could have some interesting and cute lil dynamics with other characters.
Yugamu shows interest in him in the KG route, Shouma takes care of Eva when shes in the cage so hes prob bringing him food to while at it, Nozomi is literally his foil and they dont really interact, and im sure depending on circumstance different characters could gain some kind of interest in him.
also another Eito protag route maybe?? route where he succeeds with all his plans and kills everyone would be great for that (dont ask me how thatd happen, im sure theres some kind of way). i wanna see more of his thoughts and opinions and allat, hes an interesting character yk? also the idea of him realising that hes actually not happy once hes "won" bc he does actually want connection deep down and deludes himself/is convinced that he doesnt, but now that hes faced with the solitude he cant deny that anymore as it sinks into him. or maybe, he would really truly be happy in a completely empty world, finally at peace as hes able to breath freely without humanity's presence weighing him down. who knows?
I like to imagine that the younger Deadlock heroes babysite Rem sometimes (probly also Grey Talon, he seems like the type) and I love the dynamic between Apollo, Graves, and Rem in conversations
