“Because we’re sisters!! That’s why it’s weird, are you stupid or something?” a hushed tone entering her voice.
“No, I said one good reason!”
“What do you mean ‘good reason’?! That’s the best reason not to do this! That’s honestly the only reason we need!”
“Tell me why then, why is it a good reason? And don’t just say ‘because it’s wrong’ that’s such a cop out.”
She opened her mouth to speak, but closed it back looking down to think, opened it again and then stopped. She was stumped, she knew logically that incest was bad, but when pressed for reasons she couldn’t find any that fit. It’s not like they would have kids so that reason was out, both of them were adults so the power dynamic abuse wasn’t applicable either… she almost wanted to pull the ‘mom and dad will get pissed’ card, but it’s not like coming out as lesbians had done any favors in keeping the daughters close to their parents.
“You can’t think of any right?”
“I-I… we… we still shouldn’t do this… it’s-it’s wrong!”
The older girl was taken aback, of course she loved her little sister, she had loved her for her entire life. A love that grew through playing dolls, dressing up, first days of school, last days of school, first girlfriends, first breakups, prom, soccer games, movie nights, sleepovers, all the fights and all the making up… all of it had built up to now. Even now she could still feel her stomach tingling, like butterflies desperately trying to escape her rib cage, she could still feel the lingering heat and sweetness on her lips from where her younger sister had just kissed her, and worst of all she could feel the heat filling her chest, her face, her core. She couldn’t deny it. Not anymore.
“Of course I love you, I love you so much it’s driving me crazy! Do you know how long I’ve spent agonizing over this?? We shouldn’t do this it would be so wrong and I can’t take advantage of you like that I just-“
Suddenly she was wrapped up in her little sister's arms, she didn’t even realize she had started crying but now she was heaving sobs into the younger girl's shoulder.
“That’s it, let it out, it’s ok. I love you too, ok? I feel the same way, you’re not weird, I promise.”
The older girl sniffled loudly between her sobs, and then whispered, “Ok… I love you, sis.”
“I love you too, sis. That’s all we need to know right now.”
The girls sat there in each other's arms, the older sister still lightly sobbing, but she had the best person to comfort her: her best friend, her true love, her soulmate… her sister.
