go to the last page of chapter 82. We can see Bert's Titan already decomposing into skeletal form and falling. so unless berts head somehow ended up in that wall i don't think that's his corpse there. it looks more like a weird vision to me. like a dream or something. because bert wasnt crying when eren pulled him out, see page 40-41 of the same chapter.
I assume you’re talking about these two panels?
I admit, I was so confused at first because of the few pages we’ve got and me trying to make a sense of the mess since… last chapter actually. But yeah, we have: 1) the CT decomposing and 2) Bertolt’s shocked expression when pulled away from his titan. On top of the CT completely decomposing, we have the last panel of chapter 83 where we can see a remote object emitting smoke.
The Colossal Titan’s carcass - Ch. 83
Also, not only that, but from this chapter’s pictures (from @yonkouproductions):
Assuming Armin wakes up between these panels, it’s easy to assume the black background is just an hallucination, as well as the CT’s carcass and the tear. On top of that, there was another source I lost, where Armin basically couldn’t remember anything involving the CT. Memories of it were also covered by Sasha’s cries of pain, as if Bertolt’s dying in probably one of the most atrocious ways was carved deep into his subconscious.
Not only that but we still need to cover a good chunk of the chapter. So Armin’s reaction is probably going to be further elongated. Especially when he was absent from the basement party.
So yeah, this is definitely an hallucination, horror-vision, with Bertolt’s ghost screaming how painful his state is. That’s really sad he couldn’t find peace with himself and for probably the whole afterlife. From what I’ve seen from bits the chapter, not a single ounce of sympathy was given for him. So Armin, I’m counting on you? Reiner’s not mentioned here and probably deserted.
@ningen-suki @akira1love I hope it clarifies matters.
