Gosh, it's not as if this country wasn't founded on colonist beliefs and subjugation of the Indigenous Peoples of what is now Canada, or that the beginning documents of the country specifically attempted to assimilate and destroy the Indigenous Peoples of this land, and that assimilation attempts were still in full force in 1996 (that's when the last Residential School closed)(not that they have really stopped, either), or that there is an ongoing crisis for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (frankly all genders), or that there is an over-representation of Indigenous persons in our 'justice' system...or anything like that...
