Spectacular death. Spectacular star. Your crushed heart remains bright from afar. You’re looking at a composite image of the Crab Nebula, located 6,500 light-years away. The white dot in the center — an extremely dense ball of neutrons just 12 miles across but with the same mass as our Sun — is all that remains from a star that exploded in 1054 A.D. Had the blast occurred 50 light-years away, its intense radiation would have wiped out most life forms on Earth. Spectacular death. Spectacular star. We’re grateful we can admire you from afar.

A Hellcat on CVL-29 USS Bataan with Honor Guard with a burial at sea with an earlier photo of the carrier's front view in the SF bay 1944. It was was an 11,000 ton Independence-class light aircraft carrier. It's a... very moving photo. My grandpa was a IJN fighter pilot.
He told me in his twilight years "You do know the men i fought, also are the reason you enjoy the life you do in the US, right? Things would have turned out very different. Please don't be disrespectful." What really shuts people up and me was: "You didn't see what I did and praise the Good Lord you never had to! Carry a vets groceries, pay it forward, offer help anyway and whenever you can. It upsets me because we simultaneously killed each other and they still rescued me in the Philippine sea. You wouldn't be here today if it weren't for them."

The ultimate proof of why pilots called Grumman "The Iron Works." Ensign Fraifogl survived this terrifying crash and later became a Navy ace with five confirmed kills.
