alien stage: luka is my favourite
I want shed my light on the reasons for my favouritism and simple analysis of luka as a character in alien stage as in my opinion the dude gets too much hate from people in the fandom. When I first watched alien stage Ivan was my favourite character for like a week then luka just randomly became my favourite and I have been on that hill for over a year now and I have no thoughts on getting of that hill.
normally, when it comes to picking favourite characters in pieces of media I am normally quite surface level with it. I pick a character that normally is the nices to look at in my opinion or who does something in the piece that gives me a reason to like them. I honestly can’t remember why luka is my favourite character I think it is because of the beautiful singing in ruler of my heart and that’s it. Over time my reasons have developed though as now it is because he such a complex and interesting character to understand. As well as the singing.
Normally, a lot of luka haters will say that luka fans baby the character and excuse all his actions and I hate that as a luka fan I am being misrepresented. I know what the actions luka does is bad and has horrible effects on others but baby him I don’t. I empathise with his past and understand why he does the things he do, but I never excuse his actions.
in my personal opinion luka isn’t inherently evil and villain like but he is more antagonistic instead, as we know the main villains would be the aliens in the show but some of y’all don’t process that and simply will make luka the big bad villain who is the cause of all of y’all’s suffering.
luka was built to win competitions he was raises to become the cold hearted winner that he is, remember guys it is survival of the fittest, luka does what he needs to do to live another day. So yes, he will use the weaknesses of your favourite character and use it against them as he knows that will guarantee the win. Part of it definitely is entertainment as we see him laughing in blink gone but at the end of the day the winner wins and gets to live.
Till fans can’t exempt him with this as we see what till does in round 2, he pushes aside his opponent just so he can sing his love confession to a lesbian who already knows he likes her. He does the same thing luka does but do I see him getting the same amount of hate for it. No.
this is the same with Ivan in round 6 when Ivan forces himself onto till and traumatises till at the time he did not get the same amount of hate that Luka got with that 2 second scene in all-in where he forces himself onto Hyuna and traumatises her. Some of the people in the fandom will baby a character for doing one thing but despise another for doing the same. What luka did was horrible but at the end of the day luka doesn’t understand what he has done was horrendous. As that was not how he was raised, he was raised with the type of love that was not the healthiest and properly quite possessive in nature. This leads to luka having the exact same obsession towards hyuna.
luka in my opinion doesn’t understand that death is the end as he knows he has clones he knows that if something happens to him he will be replaced. That is how he saw hyuna and hyunwoo, clones of one another if something happens to one there is still the other. It is not like luka hated hyunwoo we see in weige that there is a drawing of him, hyuna and hyunwoo holding hands, he liked hyunwoo he just like hyuna more than him. So when in my opinion luka accidentally unalives hyunwoo he doesn’t fully understand what he has done to hyuna. So when hyuna finally passes away he finally understands death as the guilt catches up with him.
we can see the guilt in the ghost of hyunwoo in karma, the ghost represents Luka’s guilt and his actions finally catching up to him. We can see examples of this in other pieces of media such as Macbeth, in Macbeth one way we can view the banquet scene of Macbeth seeing banquo’s ghost or his hallucination is the guilt that he has assassinated one of his closetes friends. So in my opinion this can be linked with luka, he finally understands what he has done.
anyway this is all my opinion and as what happens in alien stage is never pacifically stated we may never know what truly the meaning of luka’s acts as hyuna and luka are underdeveloped as a couple but oh well. I recommend reading or watching deeper dives into his character as he is very complex and easy to hate.
side note I like all the characters in alien stage luka is just my favourite, so no shade to any other characters btw.
