when the Fates say "no one has a name down here", they mean Persephone too
between intermission and epic iii, the only time her name is said is when she says it herself one time, in Our Lady of the Underground. the rest of the time, she's "my wife", "lover", "our lady". the only other person to recognize her identity is Orpheus, when he sings of her love. Hades is the only one who has a name because he is King, Foreman, Husband.
so Nom would abandon his duty as a knight to save those he loves, whereas Katie holds being a knight as an honourable, almost sacred position, and wouldn't jeopardise it for anything.
she and Owain have similar views, so she understands his motives, and is confused when Nom tells her about their conversation. when Nom gives her the same situation he himself was once in, we assume with 4c, and she chooses the opposite choice to the one he made...
oh my doomed siblings, i could write a book about you </3
this scene speaks to the parts of childhood mizisua each play, as well as the purpose of play itself. it's dictated by each other's desires, a reflection of themselves in the other. on the receiving end, sua becomes mizi's fragile god (fed little, weak and dependent), and mizi becomes sua's innocent doll (dressed up, lived vicariously through).
they treat each other like how they've been treated - their actions are informed by their childhoods, their only experience and therefore entire concept of the way of the world.
eating as demonstration of power: power is when you have the strength to crush someone, and as per the food chain, eat them.
correction as demonstration of power: power is the wisdom to correct and change others - it is being the enforcer of rules.
they learn from those who mistreat them, and mistreat each other the same. mizi takes control of sua's ability to eat, and therefore live; sua takes control of mizi's presentation, and therefore her life.
I understand why the dca fandom never really interprets the daycare attendant this way because it doesn't allow for a lot of fun interactions with the attendant, but like the more I think about sun and moon as animatronics and their role in the daycare, the more I think that they really don't have a super significant role as a childcare worker.
like genuinely I think they're just mascots for the daycare, they don't actually work with the kids like a childcare worker does. they show up for birthdays or like meet and greets, but other than that they don't do much (which would explain why they make such a grand entrance when gregory first enters the daycare-- that's what they normally do! make a grand entrance every other hour when its time for their meet and greet!)
i mainly think this because 1) they are SUCH a safety hazard for kids to be around oh my god (THE RAYS???) and 2) none of the other animatronics run their attraction. like its not like Monty is the one running gator golf, he just hangs around for autograph signings and photo ops.
sun and moon probably do the same, but they're like the pre-school version of all that stuff so like the toddlers don't feel left out and still have someone to do a meet and greet with. maybe they even do theater shows for the little kids cause it's like a less intense version of a rock concert
and like HOOONESTLLYYYY you could get a lot of good angst from this too. like wow sun and moon are isolated in their room most of the time? they're only allowed to interact with people 3 hours a day??????? they could be soooo lonely and craving some attention...
like I said I understand why people don't interpret him this way (and like honestly in my own fic I don't go this route), but its still fun to think about!!
I donāt know how much Be-Papas researched into Hindu mythos, so this might not have any credence at all. HOWEVER, Iāve been having this thought for a while and was wondering what Utena Tumblr would think?
So, episode 3 and its connection to Draupadiās humiliation in the Mahabharata. For context, Draupadi is the wife of all five of the Pandava brothers (long story) and she, in very Rose Bride fashion, is treated like an object and is lost in a bet to the king Duryodhana. In the text, she is deemed a āwhoreā for having five husbands (first of all, not even her fault, second of all, sound familiar? Sheās little more than a status symbol to all of them as well..) and the king orders her to be humiliated by stripping her. She prays to the lord Krishna to save her, and he makes her dupatta (the scarf/shawl in some Indian clothing) endless to the point it makes it impossible to disrobe her of it.
Anthy also gets humiliated out of animosity by a figure jealous of her romantic interest (Nanami to Utena ā> king to husbands? Kind of.. Nanami also exerts a lot of power and has a lot of followers in this situation), also by stripping, as apparently the worst thing that could happen to a woman is having her purity stripped away. And Utena saves her by creating a dress out a tablecloth, which oddly resembles a shawl/dupatta? Maybe Iām making connections out of nothing.
Interesting that Utena is being portrayed as a godlike figure in that case. Not to mention that Krishna is an AVATAR of an actual god, similar to how Utena is like a second coming of Dios in a way? Perpetuating the ideals of a god? And DIOS IN SPANISH MEANS GOD? Am I making sense? Or am I word vomiting?
The five husbands are relevant in a way that⦠remember how the student council has five duelists (interchanging both Utena and Nanami.. maybe Utena can be paralleled to Arjuna) who all use Anthy for their own desires, even non romantic or sexual in nature? And how sheās basically in a blunt rotation with all of them? Draupadi is basically in a blunt rotation with all of her husbands since sheās stuck being married to all of them. Waiting for a god (A PRINCELY IDEAL!! AN IDEALISTIC VERSION OF A GOOD MAN!!) who may or may not come and save them? AHHH
I hope this made sense.. my bindi post had me brainrotted about Anthyās parallels to Indian and Hindu culture.. if you have any questions feel free to ask away! And PLEASEE add your thoughts if you have any <3
happy ctommy death day here are some the notes i made while watching the stream:
the moment tommy stops doing an annoying bit his face becomes miserable. oh he hates it in there
hate hate how cdrm is talking like ctommy isnt in the room. its like a parent teacher conference in the worst way
"this is worse than exile" okay. okay. my guess as to ctommy says this is that there is a heightened anxiety being stuck cdrm all day. where exile was a steady decline of his mental health but at least he was in an open space and and drm only showed up for a part of the day. in prison he is stuck in a small space with all of his triggers and with his abuser around him at all times. there is literally no break for him he is in a constant state of heightened defensiveness and always has his fight response on. aough
sam saying how tommy needs to be strong and power through it while actively still leaving him in the cell reminds me a lot of how bystanders treat abuse victims stuck in their abuser's homes and under their power. really empty words with no real attempt to help.
and like ctommy wants to let out and leaving him in there is actively going against the protocols and its really a sign of how sam is choosing to put others in danger to maintain control. sigh
cdrm standing behind ctommy. ugh ick ick awful god strike down this white devil!!! he literally came up behind him making no noise when ctommy was yelling at sam to get him out. (gif for illustration) literally right behind him! ugh he's so close its so uncomfortable
cdrm is so clearly wanting to reestablish their abusive exile dynamic like "best thing to happen to US" "WE could break out TOGETHER" ew. like its either all or nothing, ctommy has to cave to his wants and needs and be under his power or cdrm is hostile and aloof. and ctommy clearly does not to give in to cdrm what he wants but at the same time is exhausted and drained from being stuck with him. so there's this ticking clock where something bad is going to happen but we dont know exactly and ctommy is dreading any of the outcomes. genuine nightmare scenario
they rlly are kiryuu siblings maxxing out here with that cat. utena-heads know what i mean
tommy's visible eye roll when drm says "you motivate me all the time" jeez.
"i will never use the revive book on you"
okay but using the book on him did not in fact help him. it just brought him back to life. he didnt actually help him so i just cdrm is right and isnt lying!! evil man win
i hate that turn cdrm makes. you can tell thats the moment he decided to kill ctommy
ctommy's last words being "stop stop." okay. okay. okay.šš«
