A little concept of the Necronomicon being an entity that is immediately expelled once the user reaches 19 years old because the ninja can only be 18 or younger.
"Yeah, Randle?" Jake joked. Though you could hear him choking back a sob, no one said anything about it.
"Gross, don't call me that!" He laughed. Shoving at his shoulder. He was silent for a minute. Bathing in the bright light of the moon. "Even though I'm not sure I'll respond. When you see me out in the wild, say hi to me will ya?"
Jake's jaw tensed. His grin going grim and stiff.
Danny felt his blank expression crack and he let of a strangled laugh.
"I can't believe your still hung up on that!"
Randy blew a raspberry and chucked a piece of popcorn at his face. It phased through him.
"Shut up. It's my almost birthday and I can be as sappy and/or petty as I want. Just promise me will you?"
Danny turned to see that his fist was out, a single digit pointed outward. Danny tries to ignore the slight tremble in Randy's hand as he places his two fingers on top, at least he thinks he does—the world had gone oddly blurry— and whispers out his response.
"I promise." They both turn to Jake as the weight if his three fingers is placed on top.
He couldn't see it—again the world is super unclear for no apparent reason—but Danny just knew that Jake's face was carved into his signature frown. He was probably hoping it would distract from the thick tears rolling down his cheeks. He couldn't help it. The image made him laugh. The idea of three high school seniors balling their eyes out on a rooftop in ridiculous looking costumes outweighed the overwhelming grief of the situation. Just for a moment. They all laugh. The sound surrounds them like a warm blacket, the crisp autumn air warming just a bit.
They kept laughing and laughing. Even as the clock struck midnight and the black mask unwound from Randy's face in tendrils and marbled into the night sky like silk; As the recognition and understanding faded from his eyes and the last tear rolled down his cheek; when his eyes fluttered closed and the last of black melted from his limbs like mist.
They were laughing. Anyone would think that they were laughing from the sound of it. Not realizing that at some point they had turned to sobs. Shaking, body raking sobs.
They were laughing. Even as tears streamed down their faces and stained their clothes. As, with trembling voices, they wished Randy a happy nineteenth birthday.
