I wonder how much our idea of what "hyperpreg" is has been diluted by being in preg kink spaces?
Like, specifically, a lot of people in the preg kink community kind of have a "bigger is better" approach to bellies, so when characters get drawn, they carry big, and that's usually explained away with multiples... so like, we see a lot of "Lady Sexy McOC" carrying like, triplets or more. And while everyone's threshold for when high order multiples becomes "hyperpreg" is a little different, I feel like if you sampled people in and out of the preg kink sphere, the point at which a bunch of multiples becomes "hyperpreg" is probably lower for folks outside of our weird little community, right?
Like I can't imagine people without preg kinks are even aware of hyperpreg, nor would look into it, but for your everyday person, octomom is probably hyperpreg to them. We probably have been, at least a little, desensitized to a very large pregnant person, at least in terms of artistic renditions.
I dunno, I could be talking out my ass, there isn't a way in the world to test this without coming off as an unhinged pervert to the layperson but like.... does anyone else ever think about that?
My own “hyperpreg” qualifier is that is has to be something no one has actually achieved yet, so I wouldn’t consider Octomom to be hyper. The actual results are also important, so if your OC having 20 babies but they turn out to be ghosts or pumpkins or something else weird, there was probably a hyper belly but not a hyper pregnancy.
What’s funny is that as a kid, it never occurred to me that there would be any limit, and I remember wondering why there weren’t “tuplet” words in the dictionary for twenty, thirty, etc… I was shocked to learn the Dionne Quintuplets had been made such a big fuss of. Isn’t that just normal?
