MHA & how Horikoshi handled Izuocha is a perfect example of how ones culture shapes a person's depiction of relationships. Izuocha was always going to be endgame, but a majority of the western fans cannot comprehend subtle buildup & hints because they are use to grand & explicit confessions in their media. We're use to characters saying I love you to each other every 5 minutes & multiple sex scenes lmao.

Japan has this really weird double standard when it comes to things like love & sexuality. Because it's perfectly fine to includes copius amounts of overly sexual fanservice in series geared towards younger teens, but wholesome intimate acts like a kiss are way too much to put into Media.

This is why a lot of times kisses will be "off screened" or just heavily implied by showing the scenes after a kiss. The only time couples in animanga get to be physically affectionate with each other in is when it's either a Shouji/Josei or even a Seinin. Aka it's geared towards a completely different demographic.

We can sit here & argue about whether or not Horikoshi wrote Izuocha particularly well, but one thing you objectively cannot deny is his intent to make them a romance since the beginning because it's always been clear that was the case.
