hey it’s @yumomia !! i have a question: as the top kuki supporter, what do you think of her name? me personally, i don’t like it, since kuki sounds like “kooky” in english, which means crazy. it would make more sense for her if she had a “Pinkie Pie” personality from my little pony, but she’s very straight-laced, no-nonsense, so it doesn’t fit the tone in my head. however, i’m a native english speaker and i know this show is worldwide with a ton of translations so i was wondering if this is just an issue for me.
i asked specifically because i had hoped to add her into my rewrite. after having watched season 3, i love her as a character and hoped to find a good place for her to go. and i know you like her so i hope the problem with her name is just a me issue, because otherwise i was thinking of changing it to Kuri lol

I'm Chinese, so my understanding of Japanese names is not comprehensive, but I think I can still add another take. In East Asian countries, parents name their children with characteristics they'd like for them to have. 杰明 (Chinese) for example, can mean "outstanding and extraordinary bright future".
Personally, my Chinese name is "matching" with my sister's, because it names are "X嫣" and "Y嫣", and we have our English names to differentiate us. But because we're sisters, we have part of a matching Chinese name.
So when it comes to Yuko and her sister, let's look at Yuko's name's potential meaning. Let's establish some based rules:
Yuko is a Japanese name.
The kanji "Ko" (子) means child. No matter how much you spin it, it just means child.
Now the harder part is determining which "Yu" kanji our yellow elf's name is made out of.
Let's look at the popular kanjis's meanings and rule some of them out.
優 (Gentle, Superior or Excellent ): We can definitely rule out "gentle".
裕 (Abundance or Wealth ): Not really our girl's flow
悠 (Leisurely or Eternal/Permanent): Yeah, sure
祐: (Timely help or Blessing): OK yeah that can describe her
夕: (Evening): Huh? Sure. She looks like the sun, but sure.
Personally I like 夕子 the most out of all these kanjis, and the reason for that is the name I chose for Yuko's sister.
To get to where I ended up, I searched up Japanese names with the kanji "Ko" (子) at the end because I wanted Yuko and [X]ko to have names that could actually belong to sisters, and because that's rather like the naming convention of me and my sister.
And then I found it.
Asako (朝子), aka MORNING Child
It's literally perfect! ☀️ Asako☀️ (朝子│Morning Child) and 🌕Yuko🌕 (夕子│Evening Child) definitely sound like siblings.
And don't you like the dramatic irony of Yuko looking like the sun and being named after the period where the sun is setting.

It's like the English naming convention too! I have a friend who has a bunch of siblings and all their names start with Jo. Like Joanna, John, Jolene, Josephine, Jordan, etc.
And another friend who has five kids in that family overall, and all their names rhyme. Ex: Belle, Giselle, Marcel, Daniel, Michelle. So they're sharing without being conventional yk.
It's just that East Asian families are pretty much all like Confuscianism, work hard! So they also imbibe their hopes of what their children will become or other special meaning. Additionally, because a Chinese person's name is made of up normal, conversational Chinese words.
Like the example I gave of 杰明: 杰 which can mean a lot of things but includes excellent and heroic, and 明 means clear. So in a context where you're speaking normally, a sentence look be like:
