Miss Oreo is a funny little rat because I’ll give her a raspberry and she’ll take a few cautious nibbles like she’s never had a raspberry in her life (she’s had them many times) but ONE SINGLE SOYBEAN is the greatest treat of her life.

I accidentally dropped a cabbage heart in their cage and it rolled over to cover the entrance of her hide. I said “oh, sorry Miss Oreo,” and gently rolled it back towards the food bowl. She very cautiously crept out (she’s very shy) and held eye contact with me the whole time as she dragged it back to cover her hide again.

Cow is a funny little rat because she’s extremely social but she uses the second hide to stash food so it’ll be days since we gave her a rare treat like fries and she’ll bounce in there, drag one out, and be munching on it the rest of the day.

Tofu and Crumb are learning to use this tiny piano prop I found (you guessed it!) while thrifting! Crumb was the one I was trying to train this trick (and to be fair she is figuring it out)...but old lady Tofu decided that she's a senior, not a slacker, and that she wanted a go as well (despite me literally giving her a bowl of free treats before this... she still wants to do stuff for her treats on occasion, she has a good work ethic even now!)

Bean doing a long agility course, all to get one of her favorite fruits, that being a grape (yes, grapes are safe for rats!) Of course usually I'd give bean just little bits of the grape, so when she realized there were whole grapes she got a bit greedy and tried to run off with it lol (typical rat!)

I adore rats, they’re such cute pets. I wish they had longer lifespans, because I don’t think I can ever get one as they are. Two years is enough time to get attached, and then my baby will be gone 😭 I can’t do that! I’ll just have to adore them from afar…

If you ever do, I highly, HIGHLY recommend getting at least two or three. They're very social, and human interaction just isn't enough. They are a lot of fun, though 🥰
