No disrespect but I cannot handle the official art with Rincewind depicted as a grey haired old wizard. Every bone in my body knows this guy is a 30-40 year old walking disaster who got kicked out of college and wanders the planet against his will and is stuck in the middle of his life making things up as he goes along (affectionate).
My grandmother tells me that she thinks I drink too much water but that woman also seems to live off of half a cup of water and a can of Diet Coke a day and just sucks on hard candy when she feels thirsty so idk if it’s growing up in the 40s and 50s that made her like that or if that’s just how she is but I’m pretty sure she’s been dehydrated for the past 70 years or so
She’s also like “why do you drink so much water? Do you have a medical condition?” and I’m like “Grandma, both of us have type 2 diabetes we need to be drinking water constantly” and then she goes “oh that’s right” and keeps sucking on hard candy.
Like lady if you wanna stay dehydrated that’s your business but why are you judging me for my water consumption habits
I spend basically all of my waking hours constantly sipping on water, tea, or coffee and aside from all the pee it’s pretty great and I enjoy doing it but my wonderful grandma who I love very much keeps trying to get me to take up her hard candy instead of water routine and I’ve never fully understood why. It’s one thing for her to enjoy being dehydrated but why try to get me to do it?
Okay so my grandparents have a lady from the VA who comes a few days a week to help them clean and prep food and stuff and my grandma needed help from us with something today and their caregiver was leaving as we arrived and she was like “she refuses to drink water no matter what I do. Is she sick or something?” and we were like “no she’s always been like that”
I feel slightly bad for the professionals trying to keep this woman healthy for a while longer. They are fighting a losing battle.
I've been scream laughing at this for several days
Science!
literally though if you feel like your life is slipping through your fingers and every day goes too fast… try doing hard things, not just taking the easy route, like reading and making art and exercising and cooking a meal from scratch and journaling, doing these things without distraction, without being absorbed on a screen… the time will stretch and you’ll be reminded that life is long and beautiful if you make it so.
Reblogging this with these tags because oh my goodness
To the person I reblogged this from THANK YOU i am now going to stick this on my pinboard where I’m gonna see it every single day

Antizionism is not a disagreement with Israel's policies or actions. If it were, there would be 0 protests with swastikas present, or keffiyehs, or bloody hands. There would be zero people killing Jews. My synagogue would not have been defaced. My friends and I would never have received asks on here calling us slurs or threatening us. It would have simply been a conversation of understanding policies, rather than the rabid feral animals that have stunk up our feeds leading with bare teeth and an empty hole where their brain and heart should be.
Let's be very clear: antizionism is a denial of Judaism.
It's a denial of Jewish practice, Jewish history, Jewish safety, Jewish sovereignty, Jewish suffering, Jewish morality, Jewish humanity, and Jewish life.
It is, simply, the latest format of Jew-hate.
So yeah, punch nazis. Make nazis afraid again. And be willing to admit when you are one of them, even if you're not a skinhead. Because you still wish harm on Jews for the way Jews live Jewishly, and that is the core of nazism.
Nuclear take but if the only bit of Ashkenazi Jews' history you're familiar with is the Shoah and, maybe, zionism, you don't know Ashkenazi history.
where are trustworthy sources about Ashkenazi Jews' history?
I'm a terrible person to ask because I read my nonfiction & researches in Hebrew. But I'm sure @mossadspypigeon can give you a bunch.
(and probably lots of people on jumblr that I don't know well enough, but I welcome to reblog this post with sources)
i have a book rec tag and i’m hoping to make a bigger list soon

shtetl and yiddish civilisation are both good, but also howard sachar did a book on modern jewish history that’s mostly ashkenazi.
the jew in the medieval world is good for that period.
The challenge of defining essential books in Jewish studies is as difficult as it is needed. Difficult, because there is so much important w
i’ve read most of these in jewish studies courses and they are all good.

you’ll need to study ancient jewish history, jews in rome, etc to understand the origins of what we call ashkenazim.
anyway hope this helps a bit. scroll through the links, they have some good stuff.
Non-Jews know so little about Jewish history that some of them genuinely believe antisemitism began and ended with the shoah. I repeatedly have to have conversations with people about what a pogrom is so I can explain my personal family history and everyone is astonished- “They killed Jews before the holocaust??” And after as well, if you can believe it. It’s like Jews are some sort of oppressed group or something
It's the same with Jewish beliefs. I've lost track of how many times I casually mentioned a Jewish term, like kosher or kvetch, and a gentile is like, "What's kosher? o_o" And I'm like, "Um, you know... dietary laws? Like, jews aren't supposed to eat certain things, like not mix meat and dairy, or not eat pork, etc?"
And they're like, "*GASP*, Jews can't mix meat and dairy?! :O"
And I'm like, "... I know not everyone has an in-depth knowledge of Judaism, but that is the most basic, bare bones, 'check to see if you're wearing any clothes before letting you enter a public building,' ENTRY-LEVEL, beginner-friendly piece of Jewish lore I can think of... and many gentiles don't even know that."
Like you said, so many don't know basic Jewish history ("they killed Jews before the Holocaust?") or beliefs ("there's more to Judaism than just 'Christianity without the Christ?") or Jewish culture/practices ("Jews can't eat meat with dairy?")
And yet... they feel so confident dictating what Judaism is and isn't, what Jews need and don't need, what we believe and don't believe, etc.
standwithus
As Israel marks Yom HaShoah, a day of remembrance for the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust, acts of hatred persist. In the Netherlands, Stolpersteine—the brass "stumbling stones" laid in sidewalks to honor victims—were shamefully vandalized just days after they had been lovingly cleaned by MTMS. The initiative, led by SWU Emerson Fellow Ethan Bergman from the StandWithUs Netherlands office, was meant to restore dignity to these powerful memorials. The defacement serves as a painful reminder of the ongoing fight against antisemitism and the importance of remembrance.
stolpersteine comprise the single largest memorial in the world.
note the desecration of jewish graves for paving stones continued at least in soviet occupied poland into the 1980s.
also note that although others are commemorated, it is only the jewish stolpersteine that are targeted in continued acts of vandalism from antisemites across the political spectrum.
Leftists will be shocked if you tell them you’ve seen a lot of antisemitism from the left, and that people on the left are often more viciously antisemitic than centrists, because how could that be? You must be a lying Zionist conflating reasonable criticism of Israel with antisemitism.
But then, they’ll be outraged that Jews are saying things like “there’s no situation in which you can justify murdering literal toddlers” or “raping women and kidnapping the elderly is despicable” or “going house-to-house and slaughtering everyone is wrong” and suddenly we’re rootless cosmopolitans with dual loyalty who are betraying the cause.
and then houses start getting marked again
Reenactor throws a spear at a drone
What a time to be alive.
“The medieval warrior, realizing the consequences of his impulsive act, immediately approached the owner of the drone and offered to pay for the damage.
The owner of the drone was so impressed by the brilliant attack that he suggested organizing a competition for bringing down “dragons” with short spears next year.
Drone owners have another year to develop a unique “dragon-like” design for their flying machines.” (x)
I am 100% cooler with this knowing that the spear-thrower realized “oops maybe I shouldn’t have done that” and tried to make it right, and that the guy who the drone belonged to was cool with it
just so everyone knows, this has already been memorialized in a runestone
Everything about this post blesses those involved with a +4 on their next Today is Good Day roll
a rough translation of inscription on the runestone:
On the seventh day of May in the year of 2016 on hither spot the mighty warrior Ulf hath slain a dragon with his spear.
so yeah, happy birthday to this dragon-slaying event and to it only

Still thinking about how Grace was always treated as disposable. Kicked out of his passion field for his honesty—underpaid as a (very good) teacher, to the point he can’t afford a car—left alone in a room full of argon with a sample that might kill him, while all the indispensable guys who put him there stood on the other side of the glass and watched. Shoved screaming into a mission that would kill him. And then, then this bonkers little alien who just met him gladly trades years off his life (via extended return mission) to save him. Runs burning through deadly air to keep him from dying. Chooses finally to weave their lives together forever and recreate Grace’s best dreams of Earth to make him happy. No wonder Grace told Rocky he doesn’t have to get him a gift, he’s given him everything. To one little spider guy, Grace is irreplaceable. That’s love.
"ryland is rocky's dog" this "ryland is rocky's goldfish" that. ryland is a giant but extremely fragile and skittish creature that rocky keeps off property with an entire team of dedicated carekeepers. ryland is rocky's horse.
