My Accutane Journey

okay so like i know that im wearing a wig and im wearing makeup and i was in good lighting and i used filters but like i really love the way my skin looks here even if that's not what my skin looks like at all.  but for me to be able to look at a picture and say that my skin is my favourite part is a big deal.  so im posting this because im proud of it and im really happy with how my skin looks.  thank you and goodnight.

I've been struggling with acne for over a year now. It's all over my lower cheeks and my doctor put me onto Minocycline 100mg twice a day. He says it's too far gone for anything topical to work so if this doesn't start working In a month he will put me on accutane. I don't have cystic acne, but I do have lots of red dots all over my face (he said imflammed?) I'm in my initial breakout right now, do You have any advise? Do you know if minocycline is an effective drug on scarring? Side effects ?

I don't have much experience on minocycline but I did take both doxycycline and tetracycline.  I didn't have any luck with either.  When I first started out, I broke out a little but then my face calmed down.  While I was on tetracycline, my skin would calm down just enough for me to feel comfortable going outside, but I still dealth with daily breakouts.  I was on tetracycline for 6 months and saw practically no results.

My advice would be to stay on it for at least 3 months to see if you experience good results because everyone is different.  I would love to say that it will help with scarring but from my experience, I didn't see my face get any better.  Only now that I've been on accutane for almost 2 months am I seeing results for the first time.  Accutane isn't for everyone, but it's been a lifesaver for me.

Day 54 Update - Joint Related

So last night I experienced the worst pain of my entire life. On Saturday, I worked an 8 hour shift at subway and felt reasonably sore. However, as I was going to sleep, I noticed some pretty intense knee and ankle joint pain. I kinda shrugged it off thinking it was just normal accutane joint pain. However, at about 2 am, I woke up and instantly started bawling. And don't mean like a single tear drop and sniffles, I mean full on wailing, shaking, and with fluids coming out of my face everywhere (ew sorry). My knees and ankles felt like they were being ripped off my body. I was able to slowly get out of bed and make my way to my parents room. For about an hour, we didn't know what we should do. I wasn't sure if I needed to go to the ER or if it would go away or anything like that. I convinced my parents that I didn't need to go to the ER because it was just an accutane side effect. I took an advil for migraines and to my surprise, the pain went away. I looked it up today and what I went through was more than likely my body attacking it's own sore tissue, a side effect of Lupus. Currently I'm going through about 5 of the symptoms of Lupus, however, I'm not really sure if the side effects are just from accutane or possibly Lupus itself. I'm going to talk to my doctor about it at the end of the month and hope for the best. So idk if you guys could put in good thoughts or prayer or whatever it is you do for me these next few weeks because I'm starting to get extremely worried. I don't want to stop accutane but the idea of possibly having or getting lupus terrifies me. Sorry for the long post. I'll do a skin update soon, there's just been a lot going on. Just so you know, when it comes to girls who have acne that wear foundation, we know very well that it doesn’t just magically make our acne disappear. We know damn well that you can still pick out the freaking bumps on our face. WE KNOW THIS.

September 15th, 2014 - Day 40 Wow oh wow. My skin has been going through so many changes recently. Not only is it getting even more dry in washington because we're transitioning into fall, but the accutane is making me get these horrible eczema spells all over my arms. I'm itchy all the time and my arms are rough and it's just ridiculous. Not to mention my lips started to blister again. Ugh. Anyway, I've been using aquaphor to combat the accutane eczema and it's working beautifully. My only problem is that it makes me really greasy so I don't put it on during the day. Anyone use anything non - greasy that works well? Also, my nodules are surfacing and it's really embarrassing I don't know what to do with myself. I just want them to completely drain out or something just so they can go away. I'm gonna talk to my dermatologist about it when I go in again. Well, that's all folks. Thanks for reading. September 3rd, 2014 - Day 28 I haven't posted in FOREVER. Sorry guys, my life has just been absolutely crazy. My best friend from high school just moved to the area and I've been spending literally every day at her house. But I'm here now to give you guys an update. Well my skin has been ridiculously dry but I think I've finally found a system that keeps my skin soft and hydrated. I'm dealing with some really scaly skin on the sides of my chin, but I'm doing my best to combat that. Vitamin E oil and Alaffia Coconut Face Cream has been working really well for that. My lips are a struggle but I just load on the carmax as often as I can. I went through my first breakout this week. I broke out on my jawline, chest, and back. I'm using tea tree oil to fight those demons. I'm also dealing with really bad accutane eczema on my arms but I'm also using Vitamin E oil for that. Other than that and the occasion back and joint pain, I'm feeling pretty good. I'm doing my best to take care of my body and my mind. I'll talk more about that in another post. ALSO I was supposed to do a makeup tutorial but I'm a terrible person so I never did it! So I'm sorry about that but I promise if you stick around then there will be a video soon. Hi!!!!!!!!!!! I just started accutane and created a blog today. Hopefully we can talk about it together and share tips..I'm new to this sort of community or whatever it is hah
