Not to be annoying (I will be anyways), but, honestly, it's kind of bothersome how much people act like Sua is "poorly written" or "has no personality outside of liking Mizi".

Her personality BEING about Mizi is the point. That is literally the point. Sua became completely obsessed with Mizi as soon as they met. She was a young child in an extremely stressful situation, and Mizi was what helped her cope. She became completely codependent on Mizi before she even had a chance to develop her personality without her. She was doomed from the start to have an unhealthy and codependent relationship with the first person who was even close to nice to her (Mizi).

Quite frankly, she's one of the better written characters *in my eyes*. Her character would be a confusing mess if she was somehow anything but what she is.

To add, I feel like we're ignoring the fact that her relationship with Mizi DOES show her personality, she's selfish (losing the round, literally getting herself killed, not so Mizi doesn't die, but because she can't imagine being without Mizi) and selfless (She gives up basically anything to keep Mizi around), she's rude (pay attention to how she treats everyone who isn't Mizi), she's obsessive, she's controlling, and so on. Her personality is told through her relationship with Mizi.

There's no way of explaining her character without bringing up Mizi, sure. But, firstly, that is still the point, she doesn't know how to live or act without Mizi, but second, it still does display her personality. It's not like she doesn't have a personality, her personality isn't literally "liking Mizi", it's that everything she DOES is because of her codependency for Mizi.

Sua doesn't even act with Mizi's best interest in mind. It's not Sua doing everything to make Mizi happy, Sua does things to make herself happy. As said before, she literally got herself killed because she couldn't imagine being without Mizi, and she did not care enough about what that would do to Mizi (Mizi is not innocent in this, obviously, she knew what Sua was planning). Iven even told Sua she would become Mizi's trauma, but she didn't care because her being without Mizi mattered more to her than how Mizi would feel without her. She wanted to be the one to die being able to died on stage with the one she loved, she didn't care where Mizi ended up afterwards.

It's not like her character is boosting up Mizi like "her personality is just to like Mizi" implies, her character is a controlling, obsessive, and selfish person who will allow the complete downfall of the one she claims to love most if it means SHE gets to be happy in the end. If she gets to be happy, it doesn't matter. This is displayed even better in Zombie Stage as Sua literally calls it her "happy end" when Mizi isn't even aware enough to or allowed to leave her (this post, however, is not about Zombie Stage, just thought it was an interesting note).

She loves Mizi the same way a fire loves a candle. She loves her, sure, nothing she does is in a need to harm Mizi, but she also doesn't care if an action does hurt her. Mizi holds her together, makes her happy, but Sua would let her burn if it meant she could stay in their "happily ever after" delusion. She'll sooner die in a delusion than face reality, even for Mizi's sake.

I honestly can not understand how people claim her personality is "only liking Mizi" when that's genuinely how she treats the relationship. That's not just "liking Mizi".

Don't get me wrong, you don't have to like Sua, you can dislike her character for whatever reason, I'm just pointing out how bothersome I find people completely misunderstanding her character is. It's like people don't even try to understand her before dismissing her as the basic "love interest only likes main character"- type, when that does not explain her AT ALL.

You don't even need a reason to dislike a character, you can just not like her, I don't get why misunderstanding her character even needs to be involved.

i’ve been thinking about sua a lot for this and how i can get her to actually be alive in my rebel au… i think ive figured it out and im planning on doing a poorly drawn comic about it (it means i have to draw unsha thought…. ugh)

been trying to decode why i like ivansua's siblingness-not-siblingness so much and realized it's really just because i love complicated characters and their very complicated relationships

they're both friendless, one by choice:

sua maintains an unapproachable and closed off persona in order to completely devote herself to mizi, and further proof of that is in the way she doesn't receive any graduation letters from background characters, meanwhile ivan, till and mizi all do (darker text).

not to mention all her solitary closeups.

and the other by not coming to terms with its concept:

ivan doesn't know if he's qualified for friendship, let alone knows how to act the part. his delay in getting to live and interact with others—as he was too busy trying to get by in the first place—and unsha's making an asset out of him made him dehumanize himself. he's unable to believe he's an individual that counts.

he struggles with it so much that he's constantly begging till to remember him, he wants for there to be proof of his—even if worthless and small—existence. hence "nowhere"

it's obvious they'd clash (the social issues siblings), and i think the most special thing would be a genuine connection forming because of it. ivan really wanted to make something out of his mess with sua, and i really would've liked seeing sua being able to relate to someone else (remembering her spiteful comment thrown at mizi) over her silent discontent

it's hard to find comfort in that happy ideal outcome where everything's going to be okay (ivan mentioning how tiring mizi's brightness feel sometimes on the intimacy chart); it feels like mockery to your inability in turning out fine. i think ivsu could learn a lot from their similar-not-similar selves, finally unfiltered

and alien stage is a story. a story is made up by narrative tools, such as characters and how they're plot devices. that's how foils and conflict exist, nothing is ever accidental.

the way sua is so quick to call mizi out (ache comic) reminds me she's just as sharp as ivan at this guessing game. at its core, sua's a character with a clear task in retaining control of her careful planned life. ivan's character—the annoying younger brother trope—is shaped highlighting this: he's the elephant in (her) room.

he represents both her wish to not get close to others and her avoidance of confrontation. he's the loud and aggravating reminder of the skeletons in her closet.

since that's his role, it wouldn't make sense for him to be pleasant, just like it wouldn't make sense for her to be fine with him, considering what he stands for.

they remain on the same place, but there's intent for connection there, even if it's tangled.

TLDR: i think having friends is important.. like, sua is seen hanging out and laughing with her friends in the wiege au..

My IvanTill Random Drabbles

Part-1☝️

Till is a night owl. He'd still be awake by the time Ivan is making coffee early in the morning, he'd give him a back hug and plop on their couch like a persian cat. Ivan would point out how Till's dark circles are getting worse and he SHOULD fix his sleep schedule as Till is getting more grumpy and sometimes is accidentally mean to him🥀

He'd work on music all night or literally binge watch Neon Genesis Evangelion or any anime until 7 am. His eyes would flutter open around 1-2 pm, just because he's hungry💔

He'd drag himself to check for food Ivan def must've prepared for him, eat it then head straight over to snuggle against Ivan for an hour. He never actually asks, just quietly wedges himself beside him, rests his head on Ivan's shoulder or lap, and falls asleep again within minutes. Ivan can never complain about this as he admires him more than anything is this world. "You're impossible", Ivan would say while blushing furiously. Till only hums in response, already half asleep. Ivan absentmindedly runs his fingers through Till's hair anyway.

Till is ridiculously clingy when he's tired. He'll trail behind Ivan around the apartment, lean against him while he's washing dishes, or wordlessly steal his hoodie because it smells like him.

If Ivan has to leave for work before Till wakes up, he'll leave little sticky notes next to the food he made "heat this up bby <3" or " please eat something besides instant noodles :<" or some ridiculously cute shit 💔
