“Queer studies”, “the queer community” and “I’m queer”? Not a slur. Some bigot calling you a “dirty queer”? Slur.

“Be gay, do crimes” and “He’s gay” ≠ slur, but “Ew, that’s so gay” = slur.

Yes, Louis was very physically affectionate to both Lestat and Claudia in ep4, but I think the most loving thing he did in the entire episode was take them to the wake with him.

He knew how his family would react, yet he still introduced Claudia to Grace as her auntie. Grace calling Lestat his 'white daddy' and him not denying it or getting defensive. He mentions to Claudia that she should go and find Lestat because no one is talking to him, yet he still went knowing he was going to be shunned, for Louis. He walks out with his hands on Claudia's back, protective of both her and Lestat. He really has gotten to the point where he isn't hiding that they are together romantically and he isn't ashamed to bring both of them into public, no matter what the reaction will be. Even when Grace attacks him, he stands up for himself.

I love that they showed he wasn't above threatening her either, because at this point they definitely know he is in some way supernatural. They probably have also caught on that Lestat is too. They have no power over him anymore.

He hasn't completely divorced himself from his humanity of course, but the part of him that was desperately trying to impress his family and keep up appearances is gone. He is stepping into his power. His mother, who passed the most judgement against him, has passed. Grace has turned on him. Paul is dead. Yet, it does matter, because Louis has built his own family to replace his old one now. One that loves him for who he is, without apology.
