I’m Noah Devin, a twenty-three year old English grad student at Emory. I moved to Atlanta in 2012, but I grew up in Bell Canyon, California. I guess I'm just trying to see what kind of life I can make for myself in here.

Noah signed as he dropped one of the books he was carrying, crouching down to pick it up before setting the stack on the table beside him. “Honestly, I’m starting to wonder if maybe I’d be better off replacing the books I couldn’t save by ordering them online. There’s only so many I can carry at once.” he said with a sigh. “I already had to put about five back that I was going to get today.”

“No, no, no,” she waggled a finger for a moment, a shake of her head moving along with it as her blonde hair flowed over her shoulders. “You are incorrect, there is nothing wrong with drinking four cups of coffee in one day, not one bit.” she protested playfully, before she cocked a brow to raise another point. “You become a single mom and then try to tell me otherwise.”

Noah laughed, “Oh, come on, Katelyn. All I meant was did you need more coffee.” he pointed out with a grin, “You know me, I’m pretty sure I bleed coffee and I don’t even have the excuse of having a kid.” he reminded his cousin. “So, potential coffee IV aside, how have you been doing?”

Thomas had been in school for a little over a week now, and he was already feeling exhausted. He had underestimated the amount of work that he was going to have to do and in many ways he felt as though he didn’t have what it took. On the other hand, he knew that going home really wasn’t an option either. Walking down the street, he found his way to a familiar coffee shop. After getting his coffee, he noticed that all of the tables were full. He walked up to a nearby table, sending the person a smile. “Hey, can I sit here?”

Noah had been doing his best to get into his old routine, which meant coffee and reading over his school books after classes. He had been been buried in a new volume of mythology stories when he heard a voice and he looked up with a smile and a small blush, “Oh, yeah! Sorry, I didn’t notice you. I just ... got a little caught up in this.” he said, lifting the book up slightly before marking his place and setting it to the side. “How have you been doing?”

“Things at work are a little more hectic than usual.” Anthony replied, letting out a soft sigh. He was glad that it was Friday and that he would have the next two days to relax and get himself organized for the following week. The first couple weeks for the school year always seemed to be a mess, with the only time being more hectic being exams time. “So many of my students lost their homes in the storm, which makes a lot of them in hard places at the moment. It makes me sad.”

Noah frowned at that, “Is there anything I can do help?” he asked, both knowing that the situation had to be rough on his friend, and hating to hear about kids in situations like that. “I mean, I think my dad already donated kind of ... a lot. And I’m going to the benefit concert but, I mean ... is there anything specific they need? Or you need?”

She sort of laughed as he asked her about the show, knowing that it was a movie and he would soon realize that too. A part  of her felt a bit sad about it though, wondering if he ever had gotten the chance to experience movies and going out with friends, having fun in general. She was sure Lorelei had made it hell on him to want to do so, but now that she was no longer in the picture Aviana was going to try and make sure he had all the fun he had deserved to have. “It’s a funny movie, you’ll love it,” she stated first before she turned to look at him. “Well…yeah, probably. I don’t really have anywhere else to go.”

Noah frowned slightly when she laughed, feeling like he was missing something. He knew he could be out of the loop at times, even before things with Lorelei had happened, he was a bookworm at heart, but he did suppose that his hermit tendencies had gotten worse over the last couple of years. There was so much less that he could be accused of if all he had done was sit at home and read. “Oh!” he said as she clarified, blushing a little. “I probably should have known that ... sorry.” he admitted. “You could stay with me.” he offered quickly, almost without even thinking, “I mean ... it’s kind of a mess right now, but once it’s cleaned up? I can rearrange things, actually put a bed in the extra bedroom, instead of just bookshelves?”

“Noah, I’m fiiiiine.” Eli was whining at this point, being fussed over wasn’t fun anymore so he started wriggling away from his cousin. When Noah brought the clothes back, Eli clumsily yanked off the bloody clothes he was wearing and threw them on the floor in front of his cousin, then changed into what Noah had brought him. He flopped backwards onto the couch when he was done and drank a sip from the water bottle. “In the throws of gender woes.” His cackle made it clear he was in no condition to be talking about anything serious. 

Noah sighed as Eli moved away, “I thought you were dead, you could at least let me patch you up.” he pointed out with a sigh, but still, he decided that was good enough and back off a little. He didn’t want to overwhelm his cousin, he was just thrilled to know he was alive. He was a little surprised when Eli just began changing in front of him and averted his eyes just in case a sober Eli would be less thrilled with that lack of modesty. He laughed softly at the comment, shaking his head. “I’m not gonna get a real answer tonight, am I?” he questioned. “Okay so ... are you hungry? I’ve got food ... I’m sure, somewhere.” he added after a moment.

Practically his whole life, it had never really mattered to Kai what he had going on in his life - he always made time to be there for other people. This was especially true when it came to his family. He was like that before disappearing to California, but after pretty much cutting contact with his family, he felt like he had a lot to make up for - so when his aunt had called him, he knew he had to go see Noah. Once he cousin motioned inside, he gave a weak smile, “I know I’m kinda shitty for just now getting around to visit you, but I guess I did a bad job keeping up with what was happening..” He walked inside, biting his lip slightly. “Do you..uh..what do you need? Anything?”

Noah shook his head quickly, “No, come on. It’s not your fault. It’s not like I ... like I wanted anyone to know.” he said softly, gesturing at the couch before biting his lip nervously. “Do you, ah, do you want something to drink? I’ve got water, or tea ... or coffee? I can always make coffee.” he offered carefully. He ducked his head at the question, staring at his floor for a moment. “I’m okay, really. Just ... I mean, everything’s gonna heal. So I’m just ... she kinda did a number on the apartment. So I’m trying to replace stuff.” he said carefully. At the moment, he new Lorelei had gotten bail, but so far she had yet to risk going against the restraining order and he wasn’t entirely sure what came next. It felt like he was in some kind of limbo.

“I can imagine,” he should have done so with the bartender, that would have spare his time. “I guess it will, though the outside was never something I thought was really that important” he said honestly, he thought the inside was more. “Nice meeting you, my name is Calisto”

Noah laughed a little, “I mean, you’re right. Still, my parents ... a politician and a lawyer. I’ve the stuff about appearances drilled into me my whole life.” he shared. “It’s nice to meet you too, Calisto. Have you lived here long?”

“On a scale from one to ten, how familiar with these parts of town are you?” Amy asked the first person she saw, the urgency in her voice as vibrant as the searching look in her eyes — she was on a mission, and she really wanted to finish it today. “I’m looking for a fabric store. Doesn’t matter which one, any will do,” she explained, clutching her black sketchbook, samples of fabric sticking out here and there.

Noah blinked in surprise at the sudden question, but paused a moment in thought, “Oh, yeah, I think there’s actually one not too far from here?” he said carefully, “I can walk you there, if you’d like? I’m not always the greatest at directions.” he explained with a small smile.

“Okay, pretend we’re talking, yeah?” Callum said without preamble to the person now stood in front of him, looking over his shoulder shiftily at the woman he was currently trying to avoid. 

Noah frowned a little, but he wasn’t exactly one to turn down someone in a situation like that, he could tell that there was someone he was avoiding. “So, um, have you been here a lot before? I’m kind of picky about my coffee, and this is my first time in this place.”

        “That’s not going to get you into my panties,” Vivian brushed off the nasty remark thrown at her by some guy as she was sitting on a bench waiting impatiently for her Uber to arrive. “Moron,” Vivian was not a fan of costume parties, but she loved parties so if wearing a costume was necessary, then she’d do it. Clenching her phone in her hands, her eyes glued to the Uber app, she heard footsteps approaching her. “Here we go again,” she said loud enough for the person to hear her.

Noah frowned as he heard the woman’s comment “Are you alright?” he asked carefully, noticing that she seemed uncomfortable. The costume was certainly different, but he assumed there was a reason for it, and he wasn’t going to question that.

                            “Um, yeah, just a little bit though, nothing too serious,” she said, downplaying it by a lot. It was easier for her—- the sympathy was far from something she believed she truly deserved, honestly. “It’s okay, I think everyone’s been out of the loop lately… I can’t blame them. But you? You’re sure you’re okay?”

Noah nodded, “That’s good then. I’m really glad you weren’t hurt too badly.” he said honestly, giving her a small smile before shrugging, “I’m fine. Really. It’s not even the storm just ... broke up with my girlfriend.” he said carefully. That was the understatement of the century, but technically true too.

As Mason listened to Noah’s words, he was genuinely surprised finding out what he wanted to do in life and how he was going to get there. He seemed like he was heading in the right direction and he felt somewhat proud of the younger male. “I’m impressed by you, Noah. Seems like you know what you want to do in your life and it also seems like you’re going in the right direction with it as well. I’m happy for you, man.”

Noah blushed slightly at the words, ducking his head. “I’m not that impressive. I’m just ... a huge bookworm that likes to write, so I want to help other people learn to love it too.” he explained with a small shrug. “I mean, really. I’m not doing anything that hard. I really like school, actually.”

“Same here.” Elliot could only say for now as he didn’t want to talk about what happened during the storm and after anymore. “Oh yeah, school is coming up again for you all, huh? The best way to get through school is to work ahead and it seems that’s exactly what you’re doing. Good job.”

Noah nodded, “Yeah, it’s back to all of that again. But I should get past the masters degree this year, so, you know, if I do well enough, next year I can actually do some teaching. Well, as an assistant at first but ... that’s the end goal, so it’ll be good to kind of get started.”

“I have two, actually.” He replied, “Both seventeen, one girl, one boy — and the boy riles the girl up as is to be expected. But then I’m assumed of favoritism, or letting my son date, but my daughter can’t. Which isn’t completely a lie, but it isn’t the whole truth either. The girl just doesn’t know how to pick them, and after you have to lay with your child, and try to mend their broken heart, it really gives you a different perception on the whole letting go thing.” He commented, a shrug then following as dark hues fell upon the male before him. “After awhile, you have no other option but too, right?”

“Twins?” Noah asked with a small smile, “That’s cool. My sister’s a few years older then me, never had much time for me really. I always thought it might have been better if we were a little closer in age.” he commented. “That makes sense though, I mean, that if she’s been hurt before, you don’t want to see her hurt again. I’m sure she’ll understand that after a while. It might not even take all that long, once she gets over the initial ... drama of it.”

“I probably would think so, at this point you probably show the ID before they even ask, right?” he let out a laugh, he showed his ID a lot, but sometimes it was just because they wanted to be extra sure, not because they doubted he was not underage, when they asked, he showed them without hesitating. “I’m twenty-six”

Noah nodded, “Oh, yeah. It just makes things easier.” he said with a small smile, “Wow, cool. I guess looking younger like this will be good for us one day, but I’ll be glad when people at least stop thinking I’m underage.” he added. “Oh, I don’t think I introduced myself. I’m Noah.”

As he sat closer to her, she scooted a bit into him and soon placed an arm around him, hand moving to place against the side of his head. Fingers finding their way into his hair, she’d start to let her fingers roam softly about as she listened to him speak again. Nodding her head a little bit, she spoke back quickly. “It’s going to be at first, but you’re going to be just fine. Everything’s going to be just fine…I’ll pinky promise you that,” she stated, looking towards him before she looked back towards her TV. She wondered what was playing that night on cable but she had a Netflix account as well so they could always find something there. “So..maybe something funny to lighten the mood?” she asked before she picked up her remote and ran through the channels on the TV—stopping when she found ‘We’re The Millers’. “This should work, yeah?”

Something about the way that Aviana spoke made him feel like just maybe, she would be right. Maybe things would be okay again. He relaxed into her touch, part of him felt like he shouldn’t be so comfortable with her. But this was Aviana. He knew, on an instinctive level, that he could trust her completely. Right now that was all he wanted, to just relax and be with someone he trusted, to not have to worry. “Yeah, that sounds good. I’ve, ah, I’ve never actually seen that show. It’s good?” he questioned softly as the show began to play. “Are you going to stay here, Avi?” he asked after a moment, “Until, um, until they get things rebuilt in Midtown?”
